Can a Home Seller Be Punished for Concealing Property Damage?
The short answer is YES. And that's why there's a Seller Disclosure Act law in the State of Michigan.
Yes, it is generally considered illegal for a home seller to intentionally hide significant damage from a buyer. This type of action can be classified as fraudulent misrepresentation. In real estate transactions, sellers are typically required to disclose any known defects or issues with the property that could affect the property's value or desirability. These disclosures must be made prior to the sale and are often documented on a seller's disclosure statement, which varies by state.
In Michigan, as in many other states, sellers are legally obliged to disclose specific information about the condition of the property, including any known defects or problems. @@livinTC The best thing I can think of is to pull the equity out of a house to invest *safely* at a higher rate to make a bit of cash flow on the equity. Having all the equity pulled out would definitely discourage criminals from trying to take over the deed.
@@ross-smithfamily6317- very good point. My thought on the auto alerts is that at least you know right away when something is done to your title and can contact authorities hopefully before the Title Thief borrows against it. But your strategy would certainly discourage a thief from even attempting it.

The cost of living in Northport is higher than Michigan's average mostly due to housing costs. Because it's a highly desirable place to live, housing costs are higher than Michigan's average but still lower, in general than Suttons Bay and Leland, two neighboring communities.
The cost of living can be high in this area compared to other parts of Michigan.
