Pennies From Heaven - Frank Sinatra (1957 vocal, 2003 overdub, alternate)
Переглядів 18921 день тому
Here's an odd one. Pennies From Heaven. The vocal was pre-recorded by Frank. Nelson Riddle added an orchestra and it was used on the November 8, 1957 show. Then in 2003 it was used in the Sinatra "His Voice. His World. His Way" stage show. They added a new orchestra track (of the Nelson Riddle arrangement) and it appeared on a promotional CD for the show. But it seems they also produced a secon...

I wish they had kept the soft piano accompaniment throughout the song rather than the orchestra building to its overpowering conclusion.

in those days, EVERYTHING was recorded LIVE. ALL the musicians/singers/the music producer, music arrangers were in the studio together. the way it was meant to be. feeding off each other's grove, energy, emotions. that's why those songs, recordings from the 50's and 60's. still sound so good, today.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get sheet music or a transcription of sheet music for this arrangement? I find the piano playing here sublime

Sì ma cosa c'entra? Nat grandissimo ma Sinatra ha fatto molto molto di più. Nat è morto giovane. Quindi tu ricordi solo i suoi capolavori. Sinatra ha cantato per 60 anni...

I was just listening to this, when I look more at the video and see the radio program is dated march 7th 1945. Coincidently I'm watching it march 7th 2024, making this recording 79 years old to the day! I bet Sinatra wouldn't of thought a 16 year old from Texas was listening to him 80 years later!

In her TV special, "Movin' With Nancy" there is a clip of Frank recording this song. It is an exceptional live performance, featuring Lee Hazelwood in the control room, Sinatra, with tie loose, cigarette in hand, and adoring daughter Nancy close by. It is the highlight of Nancy Sinatra's TV special, broadcast around 1966...
