    For me, traveling is overrated because you spend so much for a 2 week / 1 month experience of a certain country / continent and you're not gonna get anything back from it other than the "experience" of it. After that, you're out thousands or tens of thousands while you go back to your normal life and grind it up again for your daily and real life responsibilities. I find myself enjoying more watching travel videos of places, and i would actually enjoy it more living and being in a cabin in an acreage or forest, where a steady stream of river flows.

    One of the top regrets of people that are in their death bed is they wished that they travelled more when they were younger. You must be the 1% that don't like travelling. Travelling gives you an open mind and a bigger perspective in life. It provides you an insight in history and different cultures. You cannot compare it to reading books man. My wife and I travel with our kids constantly and we have created the most amazing memories and shared the most amazing adventures. I know for sure that those memories will live forever with them. Whatever bullshit twist you put on it, you are living in a society where life becomes repetitive, travelling helps you escape that groundhog day. You can study all you want but no amount of studying can beat a well travelled person.

      People confuse tourism with travelling.. just read fa hein or ibnbatuta story. They were travellers because they just jumped into an unknown territory for a higher purpose. Some of their cotravellers died along the way but they continued with their purpose. They never knew whether they will ever go back home but they just want it so badly( that’s where do or die came from)That kind of travelling makes you a better person definitely in terms of satisfaction resilience , belief in your purpose, determination, will to achieve something , charting unknowns and most importantly fulfilling a purpose. Traveller don’t make any difference between places. He is open to whatever comes his way..desert mountains and what not Today guys book 5 star hotels and car online have booze along the way and just kill money to become just more of a spoilt brat with everything served on the plate. This tourism is akin to a child crying for a video game in a toy store think that it will make him a programmer. I have not seen one so called traveller ( read tourist) having a real hobby where they can feel the joy of their hardwork like playing piano or painting writing etc. travelling has become hobby because you just have to spend money and you will have something to say. He rightly said travelling is for who don’t have anything else. I am not challenging you but see from a difference and you will get my point

      Can you elaborate with an example - something you have learned, something which has made your life better, something that you wouldn't have been able to achieve (besides saying I went there and saw that - like the leaning tower of Pisa or something) had you not travelled?

    Travel is so fetishized these days. It turned into another version of keeping up with the Jonses and blatant consumerism with everyone completing over who had the coolest, most unique (and let's be real, most expensive) experience. There is never any talk about how, instead of buying presents, you took your kid out to explore wildlife and find cool rocks or went sledding and cuddled up with the fire with hot cocoa after. Noo, you had a really expensive party centered around "experiences" instead. Spending money on anything is not going to make you happy. If your life sucks, going on a trip now won't make you any happier six months from now than buying an iPhone now would. Overtourism is another problem that we don't talk about enough.

I personally don’t find travel rewarding and is certainly not some sort of magic solution to all of life’s problems. Having spent half of my life in South America and half of my life in Britain I know feel that I’ve lost the sense of home so regardless of where I am it just feels like being in a hotel room which ended up making me miserable for many many years

    Travelling always sounds nice, but you always have to come back… have a holiday instead! Also, travelling is great if you’re in your early 20s and you’ve got nothing to lose, but later in life you realise you need a steady job and somewhere to live. There’s no escaping that…

    I remember one of the most massive issues with this game even when it was re-released in the bundle pack back in like 1998 was Ultima 7 used the CPU clock speed to set the game speed. Origin systems had a bad habit of rushing games out way before they were close to finished and with little testing. I think Ultima 9 and how bad UO2 development was being managed is what got Garriott eventually canned.

    • @solamon77
      @solamon77 2 роки тому

      Yeah, you're probably right, but to be fair, were it not for EAs meddling Ultima 9 would have been very different.

    As a kid I was obsessed with this game it really did seem limitless almost as if it was designed by some type of omnipotent and super complex god and not a bunch of human beings, especially while sailing it seemed like anything could happen or be found by chance, on my friends game he cast armageddon spell and killed everyone on the entire world, etc... and lets not forget the awesome manual with the illustrated D&D style & bestiary which I would stay up all night and read probably 20 times, the awesome cloth map, super cool box artwork, orb of the moons, it all seemed so magical. I'm going to have to say that I absolutely do NOT recommend any amateurish remake, SNES version, Nuvie or Exult (the game and especialy NPC's and enemies will not perform as intended at all using those). No you must install the original PC version and run it in DOSBox, meaning you're going to have to learn dosbox config files. I printed the map out exactly as it was (had to redo the longitude and latitude markings), printed out the manual compendium and user guide exactly as they were and I have all these things and they are in a manila envelope with the front and back of box printed on and it almost seems as if I still had the box with the cloth map etc... these things are very important to have when playing the game for the first time. Last thing I'd like to add is that in 1990 my friend had this on 7 floppy disks lol... but it was an earlier build of the game, not only could you do things like kill nearly everyone and make the game unfinishable (yep) BUT, the "help" (red letters that show you hints during dialogue with NPC's) defaulted to off. I can't stress enough how much that added to the limitless feel of the game. You cannot find this old build anymore. In fact all builds you can find now automatically turn the help on every time you start the game and don't save if you have toggled it off or not. I have written a script in Powershell and run with a batch file that turns it off every time you start the game. If you want a real challenge try the game with my script with help turned off! Great to see other fans of this game also I would recommend this guy Jonas on YT who plays U6 music on his guitar, very nostalgic

    teleporting around with that map is most definitely cheating, in the original you had to acquire a map and a sextant and then it shows you where you're at in the map. The teleport map was only had by loading in dos "serpent manimal" which was the cheat code

    • @narcissus79
