    I'm very interested to see how this works. I want to put a windlass in my X but all the ones I have seen require the chain to drop several feet before the top of the pile, so the anchor locker seemed too small for that. The plan to use PVC pipe to run the chain into the bilge is brilliant. So is the idea to run the wires in a separate PVC pipe inside the larger one. You have totally solved the problem that seemed impossible to me. I can save you some time with the polyester resin next time. It is called a laminating resin which means you do not have to wait for it to harden before laying more glass on top. Even once it hardens, wipe with acetone and it gets sticky and makes a chemical bond with the next layer. No sanding required between layers. There is a wax additive that you mix in for the last coat that causes it to harden completely. Layers without the wax remain chemically active so you can put down more layers without sanding. Epoxy is totally different and needs procedures like you describe.

    • @livinthedreambrighteyes2032
      @livinthedreambrighteyes2032 2 роки тому

      Thank u for the tip about the resin i will definatly try this next time,i ran the 2nd pipe to run the wires down so the chain would not get caught up and to keep it dry as possible,i still need to paint the pvc pipe up to make it look like part of the boat in the v berth,Kindest regards Adrian

    Too bad you already did the work on your Galley but, The Venture Yacht Club, San Diego, California has excellent templates for the Galley, and other areas of your 26X. Blue Water Yachts, out of Seattle, Washington has the most upgrades you can do on your 26X. Whatever upgrades you do, don’t remove the foam floatation devices all around your boat. If you remove them, you’ll void the warranty on its ability to float no matter the situation. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed watching. I sold my MacGregor 2001 26X and couple of years ago. I miss my Fledge very much. It sold in less than a week. Now I’m looking once again for another 26X.

    I think if u look at the size of the bolts holding the winch to the hatch, that is what the winch manufacturer has identified as the engineered fastener requirement to hold the winch under load. If the hatch hinge bolts are smaller in diameter (which they absolutely are), then u are asking for a very nasty surprise, probably at the most inconvenient time! Maybe it would be prudent to rethink that fit up?

      Gday Scott Welcome Aboard,I used rubber matting about 10mm thick,i used a truck mud flap which i had as i have a tipper so had a few laying around,definatly dont want the chain to rubb on the fiberglass as it would wear a mark in it,i folded the matt in half to create a v which worked well then a second matt on the flat overlapping,works a treat,i have now 40ft of chain and30ft of 6mm rope with a 27 pound anchor,i dragged once in 50knot gusts and never ever wanted to go through that again,this weekend we had stead 20 up 30 knot gusts rear anchored to the beach(so the kids can jump off)side on winds and she held,i was testing a diy bow spit so i didnt use a snubber line(A big no no generally)and she held like a champion,

    Looking to set up something similar on my newly acquired Sonata 26. Was thinking of stainless steel but having it fabricated might be really expensive. @@livinthedreambrighteyes2032 Hi, Bought the rocket launcher and have it just have the legs set up loosely tied to the pushpit to get an idea of where to put them. The Sonata has the ice cream scoop type stern so it's narrow and the top pieces will only be about 1.2 m across. I have below deck access to where it will fit so I'll use backing plates bolted through. With the mast supported from the mast step and the pulpit I should be okay to have a crutch. Not much weight. I am going to use a sheet of marine ply with a flexible solar panel rather than a the solid panels. I have a 250 watt set for my camper trailer and they are really heavy. Not been on the water over Xmas. Camping on Moreton Island from 8 -18 Jan . Other mods on the go are an anchor drum winch which involves reinforcing the anchor well and a self furler for the jib. Fortunately my two sons are mechanical engineers and their help makes things a lot easier!

    Hi there. Just stumbled onto your chanel, thanks for the videos. Great to see family memories being made. Fellow 26x owner here in Brisbane north side. As for carona, just starting a full repaint because my gelcoat is stuffed. Can you tell me what sort of speed you get from that motor? At some point (when I have the money a long way from now) I am going to need to replace the little 30 on my boat and not sure what to get. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Luke.

      Gday Luke,I would Proberly stick with the 30hp until it starts giving you problems or until need to replace it,I get about 14 knots out of the 50hp,Jump onto SEQ Macgregor on FB im one of the Founding Members there and from time to time a few of us catch up and is a great Source of information there,Once this Covid thing is Done we would Definatly love to catch up for a Sail,Where do you set out from?

    Thanks for the video - appreciate the trouble you took to make it. Do you have any concerns about compromising the hull integrity - ie. opening a hole directly into the hull from the fore deck, and potentially allowing water straight into the hull when taking a wave over the front? Also, it seems to me that by mounting the winch on the hatch, you will be placing all the strain from the anchor onto a couple of hinges and a catch. Do you have any concerns that you might have the hatch just rip right off the boat at some point?

      gday Richard and thanks for the questions,i allowed the 90mm pipe to come up about 100mm inside the Anchor Locker then Fiberglassed it in with plenty of Matting and Resin which created a water tight seal,there is the hole in the Hatch where the chain goes threw but is quite small

      i did a good test of the strenght of the hatch where the anchour was stuck deep in mud so i let the winch do the work,the bow dipped down at least 300mm before the anchor released and had no sign of falure but as i do when anchoring always apply a Snubber line as to not damage your winch as they recommend this,i hope this helps,Sorry in getting back to u so late,we sailed our Mac in the Surf to City Yaght Race and have been out for 5 days,this will be our next video,And we out Tack a 40ft Cat,We Even got an Indurance Award,I think u might grt a laugh out of this one,Happy Days

    Looks good.How's it operating? How much chain do you have and what weight is the anchor? Interested as to how the hatch holds up with some use, thanks for the video looking at doing it on my Mac X .

      gday paul the winch is going great,i have 98ft 0f 6mm chain and the anchor is a 27 pounder i did a test last weekend we where in 30kph winds gusts of up to 40,instead of motoring up on winch i let her do all the work,as we got up on her the bow dipped a good 100mm down then she released our of the mud,the hatch didnt move at all,over night i did put a snubber rope on her as it is not recomended to have strain on winch gear for extended time,we are very happy with the outcome,im glad our video helped u out,Thanks again Paul,Happy Days
