RUNNING THE 2024 UTMB | 109.6 MILES ALONG THE TOUR DU MONT BLANC
Three weeks ago, I ran the 2024 UTMB by @UTMBMontBlanc. UTMB is an incredible 109.6 mile race that follows the Tour du Mont Blanc, starting and ending in France while passing through Italy and Switzerland along the way.
I finished in 43:18:07, equivalent to a 23:42 min/mile pace, placing 1217/2761 overall. For much of the race, I was simultaneously amazed by how beautiful the course was and also overwhelmed by its difficulty. Luckily, I was able to harness a lot of energy from the electric atmosphere present throughout the race. In particular, I could not have imagined how many spectators there would be cheering runners on, ranging from huge crowds at the start and finish line, to the multiple scream tunnels near Notre Dame, to individual families sitting outside when we passed by their homes while running through the mountains. I now better understand just how special UTMB is to all of the communities that the course passes through.
On a personal note, I am really grateful I was able to run and the finish the race. I was dealing with a variety of health issues leading up to and during the race, and there were points where I felt like I was close to DNFing. In early July, I had an unfortunate accident where I fractured my skull and jaw. In the following days, finishing UTMB felt like it would be impossible, so much so that I almost cancelled my registration entirely. Luckily I didn't, and looking back now I'm honestly just so thankful that I was still able to go and experience the race fully.
Congratulations to everyone else who ran as well, including Charlie, Eileen, Michael, David, Sam, Lindsey, Kay, Amy, Ivan, Sammi, and Joyce.
Thank you all volunteers and friends who helped cheer and support! We appreciate you! Carmen Brian Sam

Two weeks ago, I ran the Cruel Jewel 100M in Northern Georgia by @DumassEvents. Considered one of the hardest 100M races on the East Coast, Cruel Jewel is a grueling but incredible race that, among other highlights, features a total elevation gain that exceeds the height of Mount Everest! I finished in 31:32:44, equivalent to a 18:31 min/mile pace, placing 31/196 overall and 27/159 men. Even th...

Two weekends ago, I had a lot of fun running the Rocky Raccoon 100M by @tejastrails! I finished with a time of 22:32:14, equivalent to a 13:31 min/mile pace, placing 26/392 overall and 21/306 men. I signed up for this race the week prior to gain more race experience and to get a feel for where my fitness is at as I start training for my races later this year, including UTMB. Because I have alwa...

Two weeks ago, I ran the Grindstone 100M by @grindstonetrailrunningfestival. I finished in 29:15:14, placing 58/300 overall and 54/259 men. In the process, I completed my first UTMB Event, first Hardrock Qualifier, and second WSER Qualifier. The race featured over 20k ft. of elevation gain on difficult terrain amidst consistent rainfall. I commiserated with others over the course conditions, wi...

This is a video about my experience participating in the 2023 Miwok 100K on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The Miwok 100K is a beautiful race in Marin County, CA that features views of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Marin Headlands, Pirates Cove, and the Point Reyes National Seashore. I came in 68th out of 353 overall (51st out of 208 men). I finished with a time of 12:46:55, equivalent to ...

      from what i've seen in other videos it usually isn't. it rained really hard the night before the race (like a few inches), to the point where i was worried that the race could get cancelled. would definitely recommend it if you're considering it! in other years, the weather has generally looked drier/better, which leads to some really fast times out there.

      for this race, they placed the course markings so that they are on your right as you are heading out and then on your left as you are heading back. also, there weren't a lot of places where the trail diverged or anything like that, so it was pretty easy to stay on course.

    Great Video. Definetly was a mudfest. There was some trail work done, but mostly removing or moving downed trees that fell during the night, and DURING the race. You blazed that course Bro!. It was my 1st 100 and it was a memorable one for sure. Thanks for the vid. Great work!

  • @littlerunner4505
    @littlerunner4505 10 місяців тому

    Love it! Also, I'm pretty sure they didn't do any trail work during the race. I think there was some drainage of water in certain parts that made a few stretches better during the night (but others worse, like the out and back to the timing mat was significantly worse each lap - sticky, slippery mud). Maybe one year I'll try this again and hope I get a dry course! 🙃
