Apex Alchemy Knives Raptora Snap Review - WELL DONE!
@apex_alchemy_knives designed and produced an EDC fixed blade in their early evolution from knife enthusiasts to knife makers. I review the Raptora knife hands-on. Chapters included below due to the ironic length of this "snap review" - what can I say...I really like the knife and had a lot to say about it.

    Great video I must say I am nervous about buying cpm steels from bark River jus because of the misplaced steels but I got a bravo 1 on black Friday sale in a2 and it is jus about perfect not perfect but jus about and I love it

      Hey thanks! This particular Bravo 1 definitely gave me hesitation, but a subsequent Bushcrafter II and a Trakker both in 3V made me realize it was likely just a burnt edge where they got too aggressive working the final grinds/sharpening, because the Trakker and Bushcrafter suffered no such chippy fate. I guess part of the risks/complexity with full convex. Thanks for stropping in! Have a great 2025👊✌️

      @@MitchBollig Good luck. Can't wait to see the head to head. I just got and started to carry the Rex 121 myself. I'm sure it will be just fine since I just flick my knife and occasionally open an envelope or Amazon package. I will NOT be using it to baton firewood or chisel nails out of hardwood. Mitch, I picked up 3 of the first production run AD 20.5. The problem with the knife is that it has the geometry of a spoon.. The Manix 2 in REX 45 is a better hard use EDC knife by a mile. Thank you for the video. I am looking forward to seeing more of your channel. 😎👍

    Why IS it that ALL knife sheaths are upside down? It's our human nature for order... The bladè should always be turned 180 degrees, in the case that it's for defènsìve purposes and not for camping. When you're pulling a knìfe in a defènsìve situation, and particularly at very closè rangè, you want to go low, and "out of sìght" and for the soft gút and then cút upwards into vitàl orgâns. Then, you can flìp your arm over the top and go for the nèck if necessâry. The other way round puts you at a dìsadvantagè initially. eg: you are likely, unless otherwise traìned, to instinctively make a forwârd stàb and will likely just hìt rìbs.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 10 днів тому

      @tonybrock5288 As admitted in the video, I'm not an operator of any discernable kind, but you seem like a proper operator. Thus I cannot answer your question with any authority, but I can say the retention and slimness of this sheath will allow secure carry in all 360 degrees of rotation. I appreciate you stopping by to check it out and comment. ✌️

      😉Love it! Funny that you mention that lanyard hole...for the sake of brevity (yeah right Mitch...16 minutes is brief!), I didn't talk about it as it was neither a pro nor con for me. @erikhansen8235 8 днів тому

      Great question brother man, but it's large so you can tether the knife when you're "on rope" and climbing whether that's with an older style military carabiner or snap shackle or a piece of cordage that you can put in the hole and then attach the carabiner or snap shackl to the cordage to tether it and yes you can use it to pull a bullet out of a cartridge to get to the powder if you don't have a multi-tool.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 16 днів тому

      You know, it's a good question. Being that I'm an everything-in-front-pockets guy, I wouldn't generally carry this way. As well, I haven't done a dedicated carry of this blade yet, but when I do, I will spend some concerted effort with this in the rear pocket on the outside. I did used to always carry a pen in the rear outside edge some years ago. As for the construction...with the steel liners, it's probably better than a pure plastic Spyderco - I think in the end it's about where it lands when you sit down. I wouldn't put full body weight on it, but if it's a bit of wedge on the side like that pen...maybe.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig 19 днів тому

      I'm not sure if this is a tongue-in-cheek jab, but with a handle name containing 'myopic' and 'zeal', I love it. Either way, I definitely never intend to knife-shame anyone for a blade that works for them. For this Spydie, I was merely surprised how quickly the retaining spring bent out and I wouldn't trust it unless I got a positive confirmation after asking a piece of glass I intended to break whether it was in fact tempered or annealed. I'm a huge Spyderco fan, and my channel attests, but I would chose other options over this particular knife (if the glass-breaker calculated into my uses cases for it). Thanks for taking time to check it out and comment! 🤜🤛

      You know...in hand, once deployed, I agree this knife is an excellent folder - good width, good materials, good grind, solid in hand...I guess my hold out will have to be waylaid until a full carry and use about the fixed-pins which always get inset at least half-way when in pocket. Did you just train yourself to always move the release on the spine to move the fixed-pins out? Thanks! 🤜🤛

    The Endela is very tempting to me. It seems like a good option like a slightly smaller Endura. I have no interest in the Delica 4 as i feel its over built for its size and purpose. Much prefer the design and weight of the Delica3 and have quite a few, as well as a few newer Enduras. Endela seems similar to PM2 size, Which I also love but feels a little thick to carry regularly for me. Love those FRN backlock spydercos! Totally agree with you, 3.25 to 3.5" is my fav edc length.

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig Місяць тому

      Awesome! Yeah, this is one of the easier scale swaps - the key is just to be sure and loosen both sides of the pivot bushing screws before taking one side off, because with that captive 'D' pivot, you'll have to use the liner like I did after the fact to loosen it. Good luck, and thanks for stropping by! 👊🤙

    • @MitchBollig
      @MitchBollig Місяць тому

      I'm sorry to hear that - I just pulled this very one out (and it was one of the blades I used this camping season), and the retention is pretty solid. I will say others have proposed to me to wet-form or even burnish on hot wax to "lock in" the shape, which of course it will definitely do better than my low-effort/low-budget method. In the end, leather will rely on gravity more than any kydex for retention due to the rigidity differences. Thanks for stropping by!✌️

    Excellent review! I do like this knife and I have the gray in magnacut. However, I agree on the jimping being useless and uncomfortable. No sharp spine for a ferrorod is also disappointing. Sharp as hell tho, great length and the sheath is inventive but has excessive retention imho. Bottom line I will keep and enjoy this knife. But a Lionsteel T5 in magnacut and the new kydex sheath would *blow* this away. Even in wimpy niolox it is probably a better knife. Joe X did a destruction test on the T5 and it did better than you would think due to its thicker spine and non-skeletonized tang. Peace

    I have one. My version has blue micarta and a 14C28N blade. Is it perfect? No. But it has compromises I’m fine with. Must be, since this is the only liner lock I’ve ever decided to keep. I think it’s the slicey, slicey blade I like best.

    I couldn’t disagree with you more about the pocket clip, I think it’s the worst! The tension is lame, and if you attempt to squeeze it to increase tension, it will break. The screws stick out and grab pants material. The Emerson style is their oldest and best. The split arrow clip, also referred to as the penis clip is just about as good as the Emerson clip.
