I can't believe they make such a hype out of this. There is really nothing to do in Nuuk and there is nothing to do in Greenland as well. Why go to places where there's only five sun hours in the winter time, the landscape has no trees and where the yearly average temperature is only five degrees Celsius? In addition to that, as the country is not self-sufficient and everything needs to be imported, it will cost to live there.

Nuuk has tremendous potential. I can imagine one can get 365days of skiing there on a north face at the least. Hope to see the city and local economy grow immensely in decades ahead

I mean tons of skiers would flock there to ski in near 24/7 sunlight. Would require some road work of course but that would be a boon for the local population I can imagine. Perfectly situated between Europe and North America for both markets

That would have resulted in a SNOW cannon salute - and required a visit to the deicing pad...

A great day for Greenland. I've been following the construction of the new terminal and runway - quite a feat of engineering in those often freezing weather conditions.
I have been involved in building the terminal as a concrete worker, and I was one of the few Greenlanders who worked on the construction :D
@@paluhansen2452 Well, you've done a great job. It's a very fine airport.
I haven't seen any videos inside the terminal.
@@VD-oq8co We're going on Christmas holiday on December 19th to Denmark, and we're going to Manchester, England, to see Manchester United play against Newcastle. When we leave, I’ll make sure to film the terminal.
Is Nuuk airport built on permafrost? Because this has become a problem for Kangerlussuaq.

Atm looks like SAS, United airlines and Jettime will start flying to Nuuk with 737s and A320s. Not sure about Icelandair if they will step up to 737max or go on with Dash-8.
I´m a little bit surprised that aircrafts are still stopping on the ground and not connected to the terminal, not a very smart solution in those weather conditions?
Meanwhile plenty of airports in Europe mandate that airlines use the jet bridges, causing increased turnaround times and delays. Even in perfect weather conditions.

Yes, I think so. I watched it live, and it was something like -5c. The aircraft was due out again later in the day, so spraying water all over it was not the best idea.
