    Surviving a bullet to save a nation. Sounds a lot like another politician in the news today. I wonder what Washington saw when he closed his eyes in that armchair. I'll bet he saw ghostly images from the future of soldiers fighting during the Civil War; or 911, or Pearl Harbor, or the JFK assasination, or American fighter jets tearing across the sky. He must have realized what was at stake. This was an inspired episode.

    Those who doubt the greatness of Washington should read a couple of good biographies of him (WASHINGTON: MAN AND MONUMENT for example). He was undoubtedly one of the great soldier-statesmen of the 18th century. He had in short, a lot of good horse sense. See also that wonderful mini-series from the 1980's here on UA-cam. If anything, his champions have done more to sully him image that his detractors (Parson Weems, for example), but he survives. The great Russian general Kutuzov admired him--he saved his army and won the last battle. After the revolution, the big man in British intelligence said that Washington didn't out fight them; he out spied them. There's many an interesting tale behind that.

    He was protected, never shot and killed.. Yet he died from a throat infection. He took care of everyone else, his family, his animals, yet took little notice of his health. Maybe he thought he was invincible because of that vision he had in 1777. But he wasn't. At any rate, I've no doubt that he was escorted to Heaven by those angels that visited him that cold day. He's in Heaven now, awaiting all of us who welcome Jesus into our hearts.

    Poor Washington has suffered a great deal from people who invent stories like this about him. He was a man with firm beliefs which offended a number of his contemporaries. For example, he refused to kneel to pray. He considered the practice to be a sign of religious fanaticism, but people (like the actor here) portray him kneeling.

    This was.amazing for quite a few.reasons. it seems that George Washington not only had a.guardian angel but some sort of spiritual guide as well. He endured way.too much to end up unscathed without some kind of divine intervention. I really enjoyed this one!!! The victory of the Continental forces over the British professional army was itself a sign of Divine Providence, in my view. They came close to giving up several times, but Washington kept them going. The defeat of Hessians at Trenton on the day after Christmas, 1776 was much needed.

    • @charliesmith4072
      @charliesmith4072 Рік тому

      Read some history. The Continental Army had 400,000 soldiers. The maximum number the British had, including Hessians, was 40,000. The question was why it took seven years and the French fleet to defeat them.

    • @pimpompoom93726

      @@charliesmith4072 The Continental Army was never more than 50,000 troops in size including foreign support and they never had more than 18-20,000 men in one place at one time. They were poorly supplied, poorly fed, poorly clothed, poorly housed, had limited numbers of firearms, gun powder, artillery, horses. They were fighting the best professional army at that time, the British regulars. Kudos to the French Fleet for being there when needed, but the Continentals did most of the fighting on land. As for your statement about '400,000 soldiers' the Americans had, the total population of the Colonies at that time was 2 million people-men, women, children, seniors-and they were spread all along the east coast. You seem to be very confused by numbers, I suggest you read a history book or two and then appreciate how great a victory it was to defeat the British. Trying to diminish that achievement as you are smacks of someone with an agenda. What is yours?
