How many miles can you put on a pickup truck? I have zero experience as a mechanic.
On this channel I am documenting my journey of getting my 2019 Ford F250 with a 6.7 Power Stroke over 1,000,000 miles on the odometer through proper maintenance. I am curious to see whether this vehicle is durable enough to last my lifetime.
Through this channel, I hope to give viewers a firsthand look into what it takes to own a diesel truck and the importance of maintaining it properly. From oil changes to engine upgrades, I'll share my experiences as an owner, discussing the good and the bad.

The Problem With Biodiesel That No One Talks About

In this video, I talk about the issue with biodiesel and how it affects the DPF and other parts of the diesel exhaust system. I figured this out after having several issues with the P2459 engine code that appeared after filling up in states that used biodiesel blends.

You need to read that article from NREL again. It does not say what you think it does. You're also not understanding the difference between active and passive DPF systems.
Isn’t biodiesel a detergent ? So the contamination is coming from the carbon deposit (#2 ulsd) getting cleaned out while burning bio ?
I haven’t had this issue….yet. Here in California you can’t buy any except BioDiesel. So the best we can do is buy the highest quality fuel, which is Costco Top Tier diesel. And a decent second choice is Chevron diesel. For those with a trucker fuel cars, the truck stops are a decent alternative. Just about everything else is sub par fuel and ends up throwing codes after a few months running it.
What i don't understand is the rest of the world does not use emission systems maybe Europe but that's it. I moved to South America a couple months ago and almost everyone down here. Drives diesel land cruisers and other various small diesel vehicles. And they all release black smoke every time they accelerate. So why does america punish americans and make them broke? When the rest of the world is not doing this to their people
Bio diesel encapulates water into tiny little bubbles/ called micro beads!!! Which means engine problems!!!!
Sounds like regular government stuff
Beat thing i ever did was get into that boating accident and had to get a new exhaust ! Now I can run Archoil and 2 stroke 7.3 emission system now
Is 20% better than biodiesel? I think on my fuel door it reads you can use either?
I think the subwoofers are blown 😂
What’s the difference between the 5% biodiesel at the regular pump next to the gasoline compared to the diesel where the diesel semitrucks stop to fill up? Does that section also contain biodiesel? Hope this makes sense
The pumps usually pull from the same tank, it shouldn’t be different
2022 gmc sierra 2500hd at4 Duramax. I have about 40k miles. Been using biodiesel for about the last 12k miles because I can’t find diesel around me. No issues yet. So far so good. Hopefully no issues with the duramax
I had a problem to with the diesel on my sprinter.
Seems to me that the Government wants Diesel owners to give up on Diesel vehicles ? So, the Government can have their Go Green agenda accomplished quicker ?!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ok
I have a customer with a couple 6.7 PS trucks, we're in CA where pure diesel is hard to find, he's never had this code come up.
Quick story, (2019 6.7 f350 emissions compliant 145k miles) so I’ve always filled with diesel #2. Well a few months back I stopped at a new station and once I was at the pump I saw it was renewable bio diesel. I was in a hurry to get home so I decided I would just fill up with in. I have a 48 gallon tank so fuel last a while in my truck. A few days later I noticed the truck kept high idling and regenerating like crazy every time I put it in park. A few days when by and I figured well I might as well let it do its thing so I let it high idle regen out on the street. Well I noticed it was smoking pretty good which I have never seen. I’ll probably upload a video so you can see. And after about 45min the idle came back down and I figured it was over. Not the case I had a 3 hr drive to my family’s house and it was regenerating while my wife was sitting in it with the kids sleeping. It was smoking and smelled. Well once the tank was out I went back to diesel #2 and I haven’t noticed it so anything like that since.
@@jimmy4x4socal44 Thanks for sharing.
Renewable diesel, like R95 and R99 is not the same thing as Biodiesel (B20).
Hello 👋. Are you still doing RV transport ? I got a 2013 F350 6.7 last week , and trying to get started as a transporter. The truck has 103,000 miles and not a scratch on it . I have watched some of your other videos 📹 .
That sounds like an awesome rig! I am not doing RV transport at the moment. I may pick it back up this spring, but it's unlikely. I would recommend getting in touch with a recruiter at Indiana Transport, Horizon, or Wave Express. They will be able to help you get onboarded
@powerstrokemaintenance did Wave give you much problem about the camper shell , and just doing bumper tow ?
What’s a DPF? Never heard of her.
You don't want to meet her lol
Love the sound
So good!
I'm willing to bet that's the pcm program part of the new recall about the high pressure pump. Hasn't said anything about parts yet.
High pressure pump as in the CP4? How would that affect regen frequency?
Did you put biodiesel in it? And if so why?
Ran 2,000 miles so had to fill up somewhere with bio diesel
I have avoided biodiesel since I first saw it on a pump. I know it’s contaminating my combustion chambers, injectors, turbos, engine oil and catalyst systems. I do the same on my gas powered vehicles where they use ethanol in the fuel. I’ll always look to 100% diesel fuel and “clear gas” (no ethanol) gasoline.
That's really smart. I do the same for my wife's gas car as well. That plant stuff is junk for any engine
I run E85 and E90 in my car. There is no issue with it. It is race gas at a fraction of the cost.
Honestly this sounds like oil company propaganda b.s. to me. I’ve run ethanol in 2 different flex fuel GM pickups for many miles with no problems. Much cheaper to run E30 in the 2013 6.2 flex fuel to get the recommended octane rating than premium, even with the slight mileage reduction. Also doesn’t biodiesel have alot more lubricity than straight #2 diesel? I ran a tank of biodiesel blend through my 3.0 diesel pickup on a trip a couple months ago & I couldn’t help but notice how quiet & smooth it ran. Didn’t notice a difference in regen frequency & averaged 28 mpg on that tank (which is also what it does on straight #2). Made me wonder if I should be specifically seeking out a biodiesel blend from now on but it’s not that common at the fuel stations around me
@@Bugzapper-t9j Not in the winter time. Biodiesel will gell up much quicker.
My 21 super duty has gone through 2 fuel systems due to bio diesel from what my tech has told me. He said stay away from it.
Very interesting and makes perfect sense. On the West coast we have Renewable Deisel or more frequently called R99. Completely different than biodiesel but made from similar feedstock but it is crystal clear and burns with no smoke. I am definitely not a fan of biodiesel and we used it where I work and had problems with B20 and dropped to B5 which worked ok. About 6 months ago we started using R99. No issues and less regens. It started in California and is working its way up the West coast. I hope someone like Lake Speed at some point can test it and see how it is versus regular diesel. Really interested in lubricity.
Yeah I started running the 76 R99 and yes it’s way more superior than any bio fuel or Diesel #2. My engine sounds better, I get fewer regens and my fuel filters stay cleaner in my opinion however I do run archoil additives as well but whatever the case I do like R99 over any other diesel at the moment. Ohh and did I mention R99 has a higher cetane number than any of the other diesel fuels I mentioned above
Id say it would be best to use a fuel additive that is high in octane and that burns it out of the system.
That R99 stuff sounds amazing. What fuel stations sell that?
@@powerstrokemaintenance Locally our Pilot truck stop sells it. I purchased mine from a Associated Petroleum card lock station.
@@powerstrokemaintenance I’ve only seen 76 and Arco actually sell the R99 here in the west coast but I believe Chevron also does in some places but I believe their blend is 80% Renewable diesel and 20% Biodiesel…. But I’d get R99 at 76 to be honest with you….
Thanks for the info. I will avoid biodiesel
Avoid it if you can! It's junk
Outstanding update on our main issue w these current engines 😮
Thank you for watching!
So does this mean the dpf is done? Clogged up?
No the DPF is fine. It would only clogged if you didn't let in complete a regen cycle. It just fills up way faster than normal
Have you hit 200k?
Not yet we're close
Did you intentionally pump bio-diesel?
I just drove NH to Colorado and had to fill up in Ohio. So I guess sort of?
My 2020 F-350 does this.
The K is silent.
Yawn - ua-cam.com/video/Jg38fvLR6-k/v-deo.html
I have a 2017 and when I first looked at the truck last January it would high idle in the cold at the dealership, now there is no high idle. I did buy BD switch but wondering why it doesn't high idle in the cold on its own?
I'm not sure. There must be something finicky with the computer
I’m running LT275/65 R20 Toyo Open Country on my F350. Pressures are 55/50 unloaded and 60/70 when loaded/towing. Door plate says 60/80. TPMS reset to 35/35 with Forscan.
Most LT tires have load inflation tables that tell you suggested inflation at a certain load for that specific tire. Unloaded I run my Toyo Open Countries at 55/50 unloaded and bump them up to 60/70 when towing. My F350 placard states 60/80 for maxed out load.
Makes sense. Thanks for the comment!
The modern diesels are absolutely reliable and easily twice more power than the older diesels. The biggest issue is the maintenance that most people don’t want to keep up with or pay for. I do all of my own maintenance and yes the diesel is more expensive with oil, fuel filters, DEF etc… but the gas motor just cannot compete with performance. End of story.
Well said! Thank you for this comment!
Nice install video. I’m working on mounting a 500 watt panel, 45x90, on my HitchHiker. With it raised about 15”, it’s big enough to double as a roof for me to stand under.
Nice! That sounds like a great setup
99 7.3 here , stock high idle works perfect
Ford don’t die
I just put bilstein 4600's on a 2011 f350 6.7, w/ 200,000 miles. With a 1500 lb load in bed , they were incredible. Night and day difference. Empty, still had the 85 psi rear tires so it was bouncing abit empty. I saw a rod has a new video with a ride dampener for rear springs that looks good.
That sounds like a sweet setup! Those sulastic shackles definitely make a big difference
Tip-out windows in the Tusca would allow the windows to be open without letting any rain in. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the comment!
On refuse vehicles, it’s called throttle advance. Every garbage truck has it, for the hydraulic system. 👍🏽 the more you know.
If you do regular maintenance it will do 300k
I’m pretty sure those have a high idle switch already. Just set the e-brake after starting and it will high idle itself. 💪🏽 the control you get with that knob is fire though!
Thanks for the comment!
I use Power Service and Howes - Colorado
Nice!
BD Diesel makes the best high idle switch for these Powerstrokes!!
Yeah they're a sweet mod for sure!
I saw a f350 twice yesterday with a Tusca box. His went over the cab too like a bunker or a storage place up top.
That sounds sweet!
DIY, high idle mod with a potentiometer ..FTW...
Indeed
Right! Mine would work sometimes so I installed a high idle switch.
The switch is definitely the way to go!
Just installed mine today. How did you run the wire from the passenger side to the driver side?
You can remove the plastic trim in between the floor wells and run the wire through there
6.7 powerstrokes don’t die, they just leak oil.
@@jimmy4x4socal44 and if it aint leaking oil after 250k, you need to add oil.
hahaha true
