The British Hedgehog Preservation Society
United Kingdom
Приєднався 13 кві 2024
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) is a registered UK Charity, founded in 1982, dedicated to helping & protecting hedgehogs native to the UK (Erinaceus europaeus).
Through our campaigns, advocacy and educational projects we work to raise awareness of the practical steps we can take to help reverse the decline of hedgehogs in the wild, improve their welfare and safeguard the future of this much-loved animal. We also fund research that provides important new insights into the conservation and welfare of hedgehogs.
We can offer help and advice to those with sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs and maintain a list of independent hedgehog rescue centres across the UK

It highlights how building a "hedgehog highway" in our gardens not only offers an enjoyable activity for humans but also serves as a critical lifeline for hedgehogs. These small passages enable hedgehogs to access various habitats that offer es...
Hoglets!
Переглядів 724 місяці тому
It's a big world when you're a small hoglet... Litters of young hedgehogs, called hoglets, are generally born from May to September and average about 2 to 6 in number. When the hoglets are about 6-8 weeks old they leave the nest and wander off on their own - they weigh around 250g (9oz) at this stage. Thanks to Wendy Noblet, Liam Cook, Michelle Shears, Jane Gorman for sharing these video clips!

It's vital to offer #waterforwildlife all year round! 🦔🌳🐝 Place shallow dishes of fresh water around gardens & green spaces - and add a few pebbles in it for insects to perch on. It makes a real difference to #wildlife! Thanks to Nige Howard, Wendy Noblet, @mygardenguests & Ross McEwan for sending these clips in!

You should always wear gloves when handling a hedgehog-never ever pick up with bare hands as shown in this video. Apart from the spikes you can catch nasty infections from handling a hedgehog

so 💚 this, well done 👏
Awesome 😊
Lovely series, beautifully animated! The last episode is a rollercoster of emotions with a happy ending. I hope more people will adjust their gardens to support hedgehogs ♡
Yh good idea until rat issue:(
Thanks for your comment. Rats inhabit most spaces that humans do - they’re expert climbers and can squeeze through gaps much smaller than a Hedgehog Highway, so adding these 13x13cm square gaps is unlikely to increase the rat population in your garden as it’s probably already easily accessible for them.
Should be bigger fines for littering. Makes my blood boil.
So lovely it makes me sad!
Excellent
