    May I ask why do you hold your pencil like this ? Is it more comfortable ?

    • @natalie.illustration
      @natalie.illustration 2 місяці тому

      It just gives me more control as I’m often drawing very fine details with a hard lead which requires pressure to make the line darker😅 but for the apple pencil I found using a very thick grip allows for an easier posture so I’ve been trying to find one for regular coloured pencils too.

      The flea market is usually every Saturday and Sunday at Oi Racecourse 大井競馬場 (it’s a horse racing venue) and the flea market happens in the parking lot. You can double check their instagram account Tokyo City Flea market for their official dates (as they may cancel due to weather). The drawing supplies vendor had some truly wonderful pencils for maybe just 200yen a box. He doesn’t seem to be always there though so hope you can find something! Hi, Nat. Love your work in that retro style. I really like the watercolor coloring style. Mostly the texture it creates when you put it in your canvass. By the way, how long it took you to finish that illustration? and how do you manage to create that watercolor effects digitally? Cheers!

    • @natalie.illustration
      @natalie.illustration 4 місяці тому

      Thank you 😛! I think each painting took me about 4 days so maybe 25-35 hours. I know there are digital watercolour brushes on the market but I could never quite get the same effect as a scanned traditional watercolour. For work that is primarily digital but I still want the traditional watercolour effects, I will select certain parts of the painting and complete it traditionally - it sort of tricks the eye into thinking the rest of the digital portions feel more traditional. On my videos its usually fully traditional with very little digital touchups but for client work especially branding work with a high revision rate I found it more convenient to work digitally with just hints of traditional to preserve my style. Hope that answered a bit. That’s a great question to explore further in another video too. Thanks for the idea😊🎶!!

    • @rgh-a
      @rgh-a 4 місяці тому

      @@natalie.illustration No worries! thanks for the detailed response. Quite some time huh.. Haven't done watercolor traditionally and started directly digital. Tried those watercolor brushes and cant seem to figure out the right opacity and crisp texture of the outside of each stroke if that makes sense. I'll be hovering around once you've released that video in the future 🙌. Thanks again!

    • @natalie.illustration
      @natalie.illustration 4 місяці тому

      Hmm…perhaps trying digital gouache brushes will better retain a crisp edge. I tried the maxU gouache brushes for procreate before but maybe the default procreate dry brush could add some harder texture too.🤓

    It would be great if you talked about in a video how your art has changed (if it has at all) since moving to Japan. Many artist are inspired by Japan ,including me, if you are inspired, what inspires you.
