Cozy Mysteries to Curl Up With This Season
Great Review Syn! I gave it four stars but it was still an awesome read. I Am The Night was so tense, atmospheric and thrilling, I was so rooting for the mom.
Do you have a favorite Bigfoot or Cryptid horror book?
I loved Johnny Compton's The Spite House. I'm excited to read Devils Kill Devils. Uncanny sounds amazing!
Yesss! The Spite House is great! Devils Kill Devils is pretty awesome.☺️📚
For me, the last 25% of Devils Kill Devils was great… But up until then it was soooo slow 🐌
For me it felt like there was constant motion. But I also had been reading books about nature and cozy books so maybe compared to those slower paced books it felt like it was fast moving the whole way through. I really liked it.☺️📚
New follow
Thank you! Welcome to the ramblings.☺️📚
Always a pleasure, Syn.
😊📚
I just finished The Haunting of Moscow House earlier today. That makes 2 books in 6 days. lol This Cursed House and this one. It was also fantastic IMO. Another one I simply could not put down. I will admit it starts off a bit slowly and can be initially confusing to read with all the Russian names, lore, and setting, but it got much easier to follow after the first handful of chapters the more that you read. There were also some slower moments focusing on romance and the characters’ love lives, but the hauntings and action picked up shortly thereafter and were great IMO. I also absolutely loved the lore behind the source of the haunting. Highly recommended IMO. It’s another one I could totally envision becoming a film. I think I’m going to read The Night of the Storm by Nishita Parekh next.
I definitely want to pick that one up. I'm currently in the middle of The Dark Tower (Book 7 in the Dark Tower series). This chonky book is 1000 pages and it's taking me a bit to get through. Good to hear you enjoyed The Haunting of Moscow House!😊📚
This sounds great! I loved Our Share Of Night so I need to check this one out.
It’s such an awesome collection, if you liked Our Share of Night then I would say definitely read it. It’s sooo good!☺️📚
This was one hell of a debut. I just plowed through this in 2 and a half days after reading We Used to Live Here. One of the best books I’ve ever read IMO. I could easily see this being a movie. It reminded me a bit of a movie from years ago called The Skeleton Key starring Kate Hudson. I simply couldn’t put it down. The author has real talent and I’m looking forward to more from her for sure. Her attention to detail was commendable. I’m now about to begin another book called The Haunting of Moscow House.
I agree, fantastic book. I also looooooved We Used to Live Here. You know, I saw The Haunting of Moscow House at the library when I was there and I didn’t grab it. Might have to get that one next time I go or put it on hold. ☺️📚
@@SynsBookNook We Used to Live Here certainly was another fantastic debut. I am still contemplating if it really was purely psychological with Eve or if there actually were portals inside the house leading to other dimensions. The ambiguity was genius. I forgot to mention previously that I loved the little nod to Henry James’s classic Gothic horror The Turn of the Screw in the fact that Jemma was a schoolteacher and thought she was being hired to tutor someone.
@ I think there were portals, but it is possible that it could have been purely psychological. Wild book.
I became completely absorbed right from the very first few pages! I could relate to Margaret’s craving for stability which is represented by the Victorian home that she refuses to leave no matter what.!!! The character development is very well thought out and continues to be throughout this book Margaret’s relationship with her only child Katherine shows how starkly they approach life in different ways, which then leads to frustrating experiences between the two of them! Katherine finally learns to depend on Margaret for her very life and Margaret has her daughter’s back. The reassuring spirit of the housemaid Fredrika is a calming presence in Margaret’s life and her frequent quote: “needs must when the devil drives” shows how Fredrika’s personality of just getting on with it no matter what is very parallel to Margaret’s approach to life .
It's always interesting to me to see the mother/daughter dynamic in horror stories. I liked how in this story the main character refused to move out of the house, since it seems like most traditional haunted house stories don't tend to do this. This was a wild read that was quite captivating and weird, I definitely look forward to seeing what this author does in the future.
I am terrified by underwater horror. But this monster sounds metal ah
It's super scary, kinda like space horror.
Love the premise. I always like seeing the MC grow and fumble and learn. The development is always good to see for depth.
I agree 😊
Omg another month down. Loved the Cryptid readathon. Keep up the good work. Hope all is well. Happy December haha
Thanks Fiyah!😊📚💖
I love the idea of a Cryptid encyclopedia. That must’ve been so fun to write.
There's a lot of weird knowledge in it. It's pretty fascinating to look through.
Bigfoot sees humans: GET EM OUTTA HERE! Get em up get em out!
Yep, get em out!
I heard of the elevator game. Scary idea. If it actually was a thing that would work every time that would terrifying. Like not looking at the woman. 😮
yeah, it's super creepy. I would never ever ever ever want to try it. nope.
I loved Deadpool and Wolverine. Marvel needed that boost. Really funny and well written I thought. Loved the dance at the beginning.
me too, great flippin movie!
When people warn you about going to a place or meeting someone and tell you to go back. DO IT 😂 They always crazy. Especially if then you find your related 😮
I know right!?!?
I love a good story where they kinda gaslight and make the MC question their own reality. Doing it from multi perspective is an interesting choice too.
usually I don't have any issues with multi-perspective but this one was a bit confusing at times. Still a great read though!
That ogopogo photo is scary. It does look like a wolf head. That’s why the ocean kinda scares me. We have no idea what’s hiding down there.
yeah, it's super creepy and weird looking.
I did not know that underwater horror was a thing 😅
One of my horror genre favs!
I didn't know "underwater horror" was a thing 😅
It’s one of my fav subgenres of horror.☺️📚
I thought it was a bit like Octavia Butler's books. I wonder if Ennis ever read Butler... . Anyway, Leech had a classic mysterious build-up, with amped up suspense over the final 3rd of the book. Looking forward Ennis' next book - evidently it is scheduled to come out in 2025.
I don’t know, maybe. I’m looking forward to their next book too. I liked how moody and atmospheric this one was.☺️📚
The rape, trans character, and gay character felt pretty poorly done. Felt like he was trying to add spice rather than writing with nuance.
It did a bit, at times it felt like a lot of subplots were being put into the main plot which made it a bit meandering. And then none of the subplots or those other characters were fully developed all too well. I did still like the main storyline but it felt a bit too busy.
I’m so happy and relieved that enjoyed my little book! Don’t Eat the Pie is not the greatest title. My brain is like, “Don’t tell me what to do!”😂
Loved your book! I know right?!? Don’t Eat the Pie, you’re not the boss of me!
I am glad I found your review. I finished the finished the first book and thought is was good but not sure if I thought it was good enough to continue the series. Sounds like I better fit it into my tbr. Thanks for the review. Subscribed.
Yeah, I grabbed this book because I saw it at the library and thought why not? I thought the first was decent. But this one is leaps and bounds better than the first, it made me excited to read the next one. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for watching!☺️📚
My favourite book of November was the third book of the Children of Time series, Children of Memory by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Nice! I think I’ve heard of those books but haven’t read them. ☺️📚
Great Wrap-Up Syn! I am reading Jason's book now, fun so far! Excellent reviews. I have heard about Coup de Grace and that it is an intense, powerful book. I hope you have a great December.📚
Thanks Cliff! ☺️ Jason’s book was great, really enjoyed it! Hope you have a good December as well!
What was your favorite book that you read In November?
The Thin Kid is definitely one of the best concepts to make this book realistic. Paul Tremblay does such a good job building the word of a late nineties, early oughts, horror. I am very excited to see what happens next, personally I think he's going to take a crack at early creepy pasta's, that entire phenomenon. Have you ever thought about collaborating with other creators? It would be really cool to pick apart another one of his books with you!
The Thin Kid is such an intense character, this book was darkly eloquent and tumultuous. Loved it! I've done some collabs with creators, just spent the past two months hosting readathons and currently working on a collab about The Dark Tower Series. This upcoming year I have a crazy life/work schedule and can't commit to anything new at time.
@ Totally understand, The Dark Tower is an all time favorite for me so I’m really looking forward to that series! I’ll be around, I always love learning about new reads!
Would you recommend this for a 11 year old? Because my younger cousin really wants this book but I’m not sure I should get her it
@@11Huskerthecat11 I would say no, there’s a lot of gruesome murder in it.
Can somebody explain the end of the story ?
I believe the haunting was caused because of the body that was bricked up in the wall. It’s been over two years since I read this and I don’t quite remember fully I’d have to revisit it.
Great video Syn! I loved Legends and Lattes so maybe cozy fantasy/romance ain't such a bad thing. 😁I am doing a re-read of NOS4A2, looking forward to it! Happy reading! 📚
Thanks Cliff! I’m looking forward to NOS4A2, I’ve heard it’s really good. Happy reading to you too!☺️📚
These sound great! Haunted to Death is going on my list for sure! Yay Michigan! 😁
Gotta love our Michigan authors!☺️📚
Just finished Agatha Christie's Five Little Pigs
Nice!☺️📚
Can’t wait for Dark Tower 7! 😊
Same here!☺️📚
When I was kid, I wanted to find a secret room in my house.
Seriously! Secret room, secret passageway, hidden treasure. All of that fascinated me as a kid, still kinda does as an adult too.☺️
@@SynsBookNook me too!
Sounds like a fun one! I like the idea of getting the Biigfeets perspectives too.
It’s an awesome book, I loved it. It’s also gonna have a sequel coming and I’m super excited for that!☺️📚
The Threshing Floor sounds really good. Attack on Sasquatch Valley was a five-star read for me. I hope you enjoy it, too.
I just finished Attack on Sasquatch Valley and I absolutely agree. Five stars for me too.☺️📚
I can’t wait to read it! On my TBR
Yessss! It's so good, hope you enjoy it!😊📚👣👣
Who knew there were so many Big Foot books 😅
I know right!?! I keep finding more.😂
Dave Scott of Spaced Out Radio (FM Radio and youtube) interviewed Jeff Belanger last nite. Wanted to get a recommendation on this book. Thank you for the review. Will look to see if I can order it from my local bookstore.
It’s a fantastic book, the hardcover version is gorgeous and it’s a fun read.☺️📚
Fright before Christmas
Hello syns book nook
Hi Jason!
I love listening to Jeff belanger talk about fright before Christmas with Jeff belanger
He’s a fantastic speaker, his podcast is a lot of fun too.😃
It gave me Pumpkinhead vibes.
@@lenyp9424 I’ve never seen pumpkinhead. This was definitely a weird one.☺️📚
I give it a 4.5/5 the only thing I really don’t like is I don’t have closure and I have looked all over the internet and UA-cam and TikTok and found nothing
I think my biggest issue with it is that I knew who the killer was almost from the beginning of the book. But it was still a lot of fun.
