This movie had its problems, and I've rarely heard a kind word about it. But this scene was darn good. It demonstrated that yes, Hal has some serious growing up to do. Screwing over his wingman like that to grab the glory for himself is a serious dick move, though to be totally fair, he only put Carol in simulated danger. But to be honest, while it's not generally to this degree once he's hit hit stride as a hero, Hal can still be a bit of a cocky jerk sometimes, and it's honestly one of my favorite traits of his. He's as heroic and willing to lay down his life as people like Superman, but not being their flagship character meant he's never had to be quite so impossibly perfect a character. That said, while this scene showcases his character flaws, it also shines a light (Sorry.) on what makes him such an effective, and I would say often under-rated hero. I often see Hal depicted as this cocky moron who just charges in without a thought in his head and gets his butt kicked so that whichever hero the writer likes better (Batman, usually.) can save the day. The truth is that yes, Hal does rush right into the action more often than he stops to plan properly, and it does sometimes get him into trouble. But his brain never stops working. He has a long history of adapting on the fly and overcoming the crisis not by just just overpowering it, but by absorbing information on the fly and thinking of some clever application of his powers or the surroundings. I wouldn't say Ryan Reynolds was the right actor for this, or that we got Hal Jordan at his finest. But this scene at least gave us a glimpse of Hal at his best AND his worst.

Big mistake, the F35 wasn’t built for dogfighting so why use it in that role. If those were F22s or F16s those drones would have lost sooner.
