Yep, unfortunately stuff happens. The v8 addy caught fire, first car fire ever in the shed and seems to be due to a rusted away fuel line in the block under the vehicle thats probably gone undetected for awhile. The damage is not extensive but some things really need to be looked at properly before we can key turn it again.

VZ Commodore/Adventra Wet Footwell Fix after Rain
Переглядів 6016 місяців тому
For a few years I randomly started to get a wet footwell after a little bit a of rain, if it rained heavily it was sure to be soaked. At one stage it was a sunroof drain problem, but then later I had another leak which looked like it was coming from inside the car behind the TCM/left side of the glove box I later worked out this to be the issue which has now fixed my car permanantly.

Holden VY2 LS1 GM P01 V8 PCM was tuner locked and we needed to diagnose some thermo fan cooling profile issues we found it was locked by someone of the pervious ownership. Some research and we had been able to sucsesfully flash the PCM with a factory tune using HP Tuners (VCM Editor), figured this might be useful to someone else out there!

What made you choose the TVan over the Ultimate Camper?
History of track trailer and their concept has not changed for 2 decades look at mk1 vs mk5 same same just technology improvements - tells you the concept is proven, age and tech have made it more comfortable. Overpriced but within their reputation imo.
@@AllTerrainAction many thanks for this. Ultimate have also been in the game for 30 years. What about functionality? What was about the functionality with the TVAN over the Ultimate Camper that won you over? I was so close to signing off on a new Ultimate but opted out with an eye on the TVAN now…. Cameron
Hi. A year on, since this thread creation, how has the TVAN performed for you? How do you manage without the HWS in the van? Have you converted over to zero gas and induction cooking? Cameron
100% on the plans change to 500ah storage for power and induction cooking, but mainly so we don’t have to content with wind and cooking! I’m still happy tvan owner and always loook forward to going away, easy to pack, easy to prepare to go away and reliable!
@ great thank you. I notice you have elected not to have the optional 70L water tank installed due to addional weight… How do you manage the lower 108L standard water volume over many days camping remote/ off grid? Cameron
@Camh1968 if you can take on an extra 40-50kg at the ball I would be getting it, at least then if you don’t want the weight on some trips you can just not fill it but on the trips where extra water could be useful you could fill it. What I’d didn’t realise originally was my ball weight reduces when I fill the rear tank, if you’re mindful you can balance your ballweight a little using both tanks and switch between as needed. We are towing with a max of 160 so it made no sense for us, we now have 250 capacity and if I could I would have gotten the front extra tank now.
@@AllTerrainAction very good info. Thank you for this insight. Can I also ask why you chose the TVAN over a smallish off-road caravan? Cameron
Where we go off road (and I mean real offroad) I couldn’t see a small Jayco JPOD for example been able to tolerate the articulated terrain very well long term. If you look under a tvan and then look under a lot of these smaller pod or “off road built” caravans of small profile just the coils, and structure underneath shows you the tvan is built for some serious off road terrain, these other vans I just couldn’t see them dealing with rocks and aggressive impacts like what the tvan could. Clearance is amazing and so isn’t the way the tvan articulates off roads on crosssxled tracks. Personal choice too, the TVAN’s width is smaller than my tug vehicle which means, if the tug vehicles is through, the tvan has width clearance easily.
That engine looks very different from my GM LY7 V6 in my 05 Buick Allure CXS.
We have them north and south, you guys use them east to west so your used to seeing them the other way that would be why.
Anybody with knowledge on the scanner I plugged this ilink400 into a Nissan Xterra 2012 in the screen stayed solid ,I can't control any buttons does this mean I have a bad unit? I even took it out and tried it on my 2010 Chevy Tahoe and same thing solid screen
Love your videos, I am heading up to Mt Terrible for one of my first 4WD tracks. I wanted to ask what would be the easiest track for me to try up and down the mountain?
From tarmac eildon Jamison Rd up mt terrible track to the hut, can try the side tracks for some challenges or drive the main track easy all the way way up to the hut go back down same way :)
@AllTerrainAction would you recommend my Terrible track over Newman's track? Which one did the X-Trail / Forester make it up?
@electropad mt terrible, new mans would be okay too. Try mt terrible first gives you some steep climbs to check how that goes! Reasonably flat with climbs up to the hut.
@@AllTerrainAction thanks heaps mate

Could you please post where to buy this new? if you know? - usual searches aren't helping and the image I have seen is saying passenger side yet looks identical to what you're working on

Hey there - we have a 2023 xt outback stock. 18.6 approach angle and 21.7 departure angles are what scares me. What are your thoughts?
Hey mann what tracks were these, want to head out that way soon
Hey - Check in the description of the video, link to Google Maps pin.
Hi, Chris and Will would love to see what you guys take as spare parts off-roading and recovery gear. I wouldn't leave home without things etc.
How do I get on to these trips ? I'm in Victoria BTW, contact me on how to do it please 👍👍👍
Well I will be a Mexican for 3 days This coming week . Family have decided that a certain place on the Murray River needs to be checked out. Sadly. Since this holiday is not on my Dollar... I won't be able to go anywhere else. And there is NO WAY IN HELL I am going to be taking the Territory on a trip south of the Border especially since the Econobox will do the job lol.. (Just a Warning to those thinking about Off-roading a Territory, It does bring a smile to your dial... but leaves your fuel tank and your wallet empty)
@@MrMagnat007 happy travels mate
This is such a great idea. I’d love to be there doing it with you guys but this way we can feel part of it anyway. Hope you manage to get this up and running.
How often do you guys break gear in these cars. Uni's, cv's drivetrain.
This is an easy answer as we wondered about durability and duty cycle of exactly what you’re asking when we started doing this. We have never broken a CV joint but have had a few boot rips over time per vehicle. We have had a front CV failure when we tried to use aftermarket GSP brand CVs (for something new) but we learned that the aftermarket CVs don’t have the same tripot design as the OEM German designed ones and since this discovery we just rebuild the OEM ones when we need to freshen anything up. No tailshafts, front prop shaft, diffs or transfer case failures. I’ve had 1 dusted engine due to failed filter on the snorkel intake and 1 transmission 3rd gear from suspected towing (only very recently occurred). V8 weak spot are the trans, v6 transmissions are quite decent they just need a converter change at 300k to prolong them to 450+ range. Transfer case gear based no chain they are the strongest part of the driveline. Surprisingly when you would think a cv would go it hasent, could have something to do with the traction control system hammering the brakes to bring down the speed and high shock you’d normally have.
Hello Chris I accedentally drilled 2mm x 2 holes and 3mm x1 hole as was an earlier recommendation -rather than 2mm. 1.5mm and 3mm Do you you think there will be significant consequences from this ?
Hey there! Can't see any issues with this, if anything you may see more oil in return but its of no negative effect.
A good collection of the Adventura ability in the soft stuff.
Nice one, ive drilled mine to 3mm, 2mm and 1.5mm and i dont get oil at the top, also having issues with it going into limp mode sometimes after an hour of driving P0300 misfires all on bank 1. Any ideas? cheers.
Did u sort ur problem bro? I got same issue!
I think this mod is a very good idea. I pulled my pcv out at about 223, 000k for the first time lm in a v6 with very good oil hygene. The pcv was clean and clear but the top of the pcv had a black soot crust. There was evidence at the rim of the hole in the crank case that the black layer was lining the crank case cover. I drilled 2mm both tops and 3mm bottom hole before i saw the recommendation for 2mm 1.5 and 3mm. I with have to see what effect this has. Sizes came from a US video which may not have had the precision of this one. I have a catch can as well Anyone got any experience with the effects of the 2mmx 2 and 3mm pcv hole set up?
My car just purchased an LX6 I love all the information you have. Personally, the study is done easily because of your channel. So thanks heap for being a Service manual easy information provided.
What car is that? 😮
I would be interested to know if you found a fix for the gear box and torque converter on one of those VZ Adventras.
Be more specific? What fix is needed?
thanks for the update. To be sure 3mm on top 1.5 and 2mm on the bottom right?
Can you replace the earlier PCV valves with a later one or simply drill the holes out slightly larger?
u just drove past me i’ve checked out ur content it’s good stuff
If you can’t blow through the PCV then it’s probably working as designed. It’s a spring loaded one way valve. Blowing into the side that the vacuum line connects to is basically simulating a backfire condition which closes the valve. To see if it’s stopped up you have to either suck air through it or turn it around and blow through the other side.
What solution did you place it in?
Carby cleaner
Iv cracked the coding on this device has anyone got any software we can share as I know how to make software work on it without paying I can also share this info with someone who's keen to do a software share I currently have the holden and toyota software
oh my god these guys are painful to watch , dont go 4x4 if your a chicken
Huge effort buddy. Sorry I couldn't be there. My weekends are crazy at the moment. Appreciate your huge efforts.
What torque spec is the front 36mm cv/hub/steering knuckle nut?
36mm nut Found something saying; 1st 130 N.m 2nd loosen the nut until loose 3rd 200 N.m For those searching, hope this saves you time.
I did this same mod to mine, and my oil consuption was very excessive!!!! There is no actual "valve" in there it's hollow empty. So just get a new valve or clean it, don't drill it.
Vary helpful ❤
We need more people to join this cause👍
Chris... What in the hell did you do.. Try to send a stump through the floor pan ??

Great repair job! What is the issue with it becoming a national park? Reduced access?
@@GS-kh5se Not just reduced. Zero access.
Chris, Think of the Animals ! The Leadbeaters Possum is getting squished by cars. Its all about Bush respect and proper management. The single biggest problem we have is people do not know how to respect the bush. They go in, Make their own tracks instead of sticking to the ones that are already there. They don't follow the rule of leave only tire tracks and take only photo's. Its no wonder that they want to protect the bush under the label of conservation when there are idiots out there who ruin it for the rest of us. Weekend warriors who instead of getting to a destination just go out to test how bogged they can get or how far they can climb up a creek bed. So yeah, I can understand why they want to make the Great Forest National Park when all people want to do is destroy the bush and not respect it. No to mention it would stop the logging.
Same same, some ruin it for others theory really. We cant let this happen in the way they want. Its all about balance, GFNP will make it inbalanced if they get their way.
Awesome job Chris &:co
Jesus bit rough mate
South Australia has some notorious beaches for getting bogged on. Good video 🤙
Why would you discourage him from using his diff lock? I think they should go to a proper accredited driving school.
In certain Toyota models in Australia, engaging the rear diff lock disables the front A-TRAC system. In many situations, using only the rear lock, especially when a front wheel is completely off the ground, can hinder progress. A-TRAC, which operates on both the front and rear, is often more effective in some cases than using a rear locker with an open front differential. If A-TRAC continued to function at the front, like it does in the Tundra in the US, our opinion on this might be different depending on the track/terrain/obsticle.
How did you build the hanging table/shelf?
Quite easily, small chain, some loop hooks and door hinges - can probably make a short video about it if you want to see it in more detail but there is nothing fancy to it - but it does work and held up for 3 years now and used plenty! So handy, you never realise how much a small table helps in a small space like that!
skids
No Adventra at the show?
They would never let poor adventra in, it’s not a 4wd! 😂
😮😢😅😂❤@@AllTerrainAction
Important, because we did this - we had a PCM link issue with our computers in the vehicle. To get around this we had to turn VATS off and reflash otherwise we couldnt get the car to start due to missmatch. When it comes to linking computers THEY ALL NEED TO BE UNLINKED before you do this if you want to relink them back up after the fact. We used a tool called Vident here to get the link codes. Our GM Tech2 tool wouldnt give us the codes without probably access TIS access.
Hi Mate - Good vid. Just a question, PCM Hammer has the ability to write stock files back to the ECU also, but being open source you dont need to use credits like you do with HP Tuners. Did HP Tuners provide some functionality over PCM Hammer? Just curious. CHeers mate. Enjoyed the vid........and great to see Aussies getting amongst the action.
Hey mate, thanks but I dont think we have enough exposure with the LS1 with the software to determine. We used HP Tuners because we already had it, but it has also allowed us to change low/high speed fan triggers, lockup on the 4l60 changes with the converter too - but beyond this, my feedback is limited and probably amature level at best.
@@AllTerrainAction good stuff bud. If you can tune with HP tuners, then you should be with any tuning software really. PCM hammer will do the reading and wiring. And you can use TunerPro to do the tuning. Both are free pieces of software……no licensing required. This is for the P01 gm ECU you worked on. Just a thought mate :) Take care.
@@davef2415 Thatll work with our VCM MPVI3 device/cable? I might have a play around, licencing PITA as you clearly know. What cables do you guys normally use?
@@AllTerrainAction check out PCMhacking about pcm hammer man, you need a new cable, its not that expensive
Using your channel to explore an Interest I have in switching to an Adventra.....and the decision is... Yes going to go with the LS1 option to replace my Pajero... Love the Channel - Well done Guys
Thanks enjoy, although I must caution you the choice to go to an Adventra from a Paj is a big change, the adventra is basically best seen as a commodore wagon on steroids, with AWD system and more simplified vehicle. Small things make it amazing with the way it works but it’s certainly not a proven vehicle. If it’s just camping, touring and not really much true 4wd these things are perfect but anything for regular 4wd duty on actual 4wd tracks where you’d expect a wheel up it’s too much for the adventra for a purpose use vehicle. We only do this to show how capable it really is for a tourer really, it won’t let you down when it’s asked to preform you just wouldn’t want to do it regularly that’s all.
Hi are the pcv valve the same in the 2015 vf sv6 commodore
Nope Changed to plastic on 2013 models.
