Perfection Loop
Переглядів 2,1 тис.9 років тому
Tie loops on the butt section of your leader to allow loop to loop connections with you fly line. Learn this knot and you will never care if the leaders you buy are pre-looped.
Open Loop Indicator Knot
Переглядів 14 тис.9 років тому
This video shows how to tie an open loop indicator knot which is used to tie a yarn strike indicator onto your leader. The knot is easily removable and the yarn may be trimmed to whatever size suits the fishing conditions.
Would this go good with a 10 foot 3 wt fly rod
Yes, the 3/4wt version would work quite well on a 10' 3wt.
@@flyshack ok awesome..ill be in sometime next week to pick one up
Excellent tutorial, much appreciated ,David.
To be fair this video just shows you can do these it’s not a tutorial 😢
Well done. ThankYou!
Thanks. I've always been curious about how to use some of these tools.
Why did you cut the video right as you were putting on the standard one????
Sorry mate but background colours, lighting, near invisible thread and music, just made it too hard to work out what you were doing and very off putting.
3/4's of perfection loop, great idea 💡
There's a special place in hell for the guy that designed the Standard tool. I have never seen a more frustration inducing, unnecessary complicated piece of c*rap tool in my life.
Sorry you couldn't figure it out, mine works great!
Well, I could look at the tools and learn as much as I was told in this video. Demo would have been nice.
Yes!!! This is what I needed! Thanks!
Thanks helped me learn to use the one I just made.
Too fast
Not too fast. Seemed that way first time through, but you did just fine. Kudos for explaining the different styles. I ended up with a Dan style, couldn't figure it out until I found this vid, so thank you!
Your demonstration of, what you call the standard, is incorrect. You fail to use or explain the "double" bend on the hooked end of the tool. I also have gotten extremely confused over the various names given to this style of tool. For me it's a Thomson whip finishing tool. Would be great if you could resolve this. Thanks for the video as it remains most instructive on the other tools.
Yes! The Thompson style has the double bend which is confusing to many people. This video is good overall, but it didn't really explain or show what the purpose of the "S" on the tool is for.
I call mine a Thompson also. The S bend at the top is designed to ride on the Head of the Fly as you rotate the tool, not held in the air away from the Fly as he demonstrates.
Not sure your demo of the standard whip finishing tool is accurate as the double hook is intended to hold the tread and the other to rest on the hook shank whilst rotating. Perhaps you can clarify
Please help how to install that spool lever...
too fast and impossible to follow!!
This is great video very informative. The best way to learn to whip finish is to practice. Keep it up!
Practice, practice, practice, practice.......... and then practice some more. In fly tying, "practice" is the only thing you need more of...........
Does it weaken the break strength of the leader?
Typically the indicator will be attached where your tapered leader is thicker, so it should not matter. I learned this knot from a guide while fishing for large browns (20+ inches) using tiny flies (Size 20-) and fine tippets (6X-). There were no problems with the leader breaking. As far as actual specs on reduction in breaking strength, I do not know. I hope this helps!
No more than any of the simple leader/tippet knots. Double surgeon's for example. Trick is to not snug it up very tightly. This also aids in adjustment or removal of the indicator.
I found this helpful. Thanks!
Great help thanks.
Thanks! Pretty nmuch a perfection loop...
This is almost impossible to follow...
choice of music is so annoying I cant watch the vid
This a demonstration, not a tutorial., It's lightning fast without explication on how to do it. Not very helpful, even the russian tutorial video is better to learn how to whip finish.
Whip Finish Tutorial - w/ tools and by hand read a stfu
I'll stick with my Matarelli style whip finisher Thank you
The music over powers the video and the speaker
Thanks for your input John.
I personally think the music is awesome - I love South American music. Any chance you could tell me what it is?
What kind of yarn should i use, can it be regular yarn from a craft store? Thanks
+Josh Teague Your best bet is to use poly yarn. It floats very well. Some other yarns will act like a sponge - absorbing water and soon sinking. You can sometimes find poly yarn at craft stores, but it might be tough to find. We sell poly yarn for tying flies and even yarn specifically for strike indicators. No matter which yarn you go with, it is best to treat it with a permanent floatant such as our StayDry floatant. I hope this helps. No matter what, have fun out there!
