Thought I'd look at several lessons on YT regarding the reigns of Manasseh & Josiah, and this came up first. Appreciated your message. Added a few of my own thoughts below... A critical parallel passage that should be read in conjunction with the 2 Kings 21 (15:29) passage is 2 Chronicles 33:10-20. It sheds much more light on the reign of Manasseh than just 2 Kings 21:2: Manasseh's judgement by God, his resulting humility, repentance, and cleansing of the nation and it's return to God (prior to Amon's reign) are only mentioned in 2 Chronicles, and are important to understanding this king. 2 Chronicles 33:15-17 also gives us the key to unlocking the ability of Amon to commit sin at such a high level, as well as why thorough and proper cleansings are needed by repentant followers of God: Manasseh only "cast out" the filth he'd brought inside the city (& in the temple); great error results from not completely destroying all of the high places, and failing to root out all of the dedicated sinners (from among God's people). Amon was able to gather up the ignored sinners, the cast-off instruments of sin, and replicate years of sinful living in a very short time... because Manasseh's haste (to cleanse the temple) kept him from doing as well as Josiah did later. Conversely, Josiah first (2 Chron. 34:3-7) destroyed everything that was used to commit sin, rooted out the sinners, then (vs.8) he purged the land, repaired the house, and finally rededicated the temple (35:1-19) with a great sacrifice. This was not a superficial cleansing, but a complete purification. It appears to me that the level of obligation Josiah felt for the "sins of his fathers," the extent of his preparation to obey & do right, and his degree of dedication to God were all of a much higher level than Manasseh's... and the higher commitment to excellence (by King Josiah) made it much easier for the people of God to return to serving Him.
I am grateful to you for recording this!! Thanks Neva O.
Of course!
Thank you, Harrison, for providing this audio of Steve's sermon!!
No problem!
Beautiful!! The hands of Christ at work!
What a neat celebration. Beautiful day to have the choir on the steps singing. Enjoyed the music (especially that singer LouAnne, our sister-in-law)- outstanding piano playing.
Such a wonderful service today! I loved the music, history and the message !! Be listening to our Lord and His leading. Follow Him! ❤❤
Phil. Did the service really end 15 minutes ago? Thought it would come back after global partners.
