How to Design a Good Airport Terminal
Переглядів 38 тис.4 роки тому
As passengers, we all have experienced some sort of nightmare at airports. In this video, I explain how terminal layouts can be used to reduce such frictions and which designs work best for what type of airports. De-boarding idea: let the people with no bags in the stowaways, and in aisle seats, flush out first. This could be done very quickly. It would lessen the wait time for the vast majority of passengers. As an added bonus, it might incentivize checking bags-which would also speed things up
Kansas City replaced the horseshoe terminals with a single H-shaped terminal early in 2023.
Great thanks
If the most efficient way to deplane is to go by column first, wouldn't those people standing and getting ready to bolt with their bags help? How does it only help in some situations? I watched the whole thing hoping for an explanation about this, rather than a "just don't do it." 😂
FCR
About to take private exam and was confused on this. Couldn’t find a video that explained everything until this. THANK U!!
The problem with this well intended post is that the narrator speaks too fast, often slurring words hurredly into one another. Common issue today. Furthermore his voice goes up suddenly, drops too low, speeds up..Hard and unpleasant to follow.
Just wondering, should it be read one nine left? or nineteen L?
nice
Ill try to shout you out in my next video! thanks everything aviation!
That annoying background music ruins this video.
Looks a bit like the Sukhoi superjet 100
It sure does! They licenced a lot of the design to Sukhoi so in a way, the SSJ is the version that actually flew, but aside from some airframe differences - it’s very similar and even though the 728 never flew, the SSJ has - so it’s one way the design flew!
Deplaning by column sucks for families and groups.
Basically an A220 before the A220 ever came about
thank you for sharing valuable information.
Do any airlines attempt to optimize deplaning?
👍
Love the video mate. Are you able to include km conversions?
As a passenger, I'm always curious about what those signs mean. Thank you for this video!
А потом продали Сухому?
As someone who has flown as a passenger for over 60 years and who occasionally listens to ATC to pilot conversations, I have often wondered about the various airport signage and references. This video with the graphics provided a good introduction to understanding the terms/references/signage. Good job for teaching an old dog a new trick. Thank you.
I hope so because I am flying on a United Airlines 737 Max 8 to Newark from Costa Rica. This could be my last comment ever.
My philosophy is simple - if you have your stuff and are ready to go, I will get out of your way. If I have my stuff/didn't pack an overhead item, get the hell out of my way.
excellent information, thank you
I worked on the 328Jet and was excited to hear about this and then 😢. 430FJ 2:15 I worked that plane.

The A19 sign means you are going to get charged 19 times more fees than you thought. The A with 2 arrows means if you go this way there's a fee, and if you go that way the fee is much more. Enjoy your flight.
Compass points on airport signs?
Lufthansa got a good deal for 319s to get out of the deal.
The german banks who financed the 728 programm were forced by airbus to get out. The bankrupecy from dornier was forced by banks. the a318 was in the same market as the do928.
🇨🇦🇵🇰….GOOD INFORMATION 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Single body? 0:23
Why do airport signs have the same typeface as US Highway signs?
Who the fuck is relaxed sitting in a cramped seat? Sorry but if I've been sitting for hours I'm going to stand up. you know what me standing gives the guy in the middle seat more room to get his stuff together and the guy on the window a chance too. As a frequent traveler who has sat in all kinds of different rows. If you're on the aisle and you don't stand up ASAP you're an ahole.
The Fundamental question is the Faulty Placement of the Engines.....MCAS & Software issue is Secondary
Most people watching this haven't mastered even the road signs.
The correct terminology for the runways is LEFT CENTRE or RIGHT
One mnemonic device that I like is "Black Square means you are there". Cool video.
Black square, you're there!
I learnt in the military for my flight line must review and refresh forgot them all
Sir, Would make lot more sense if your voice was accompanied by a flat paper model of aircraft on rumways. No offense
You know you can't trust what he's saying the moment you hear "runway thirty three" instead of "runway three three"
True...the moment we detect any incorrect information provided by anyone, we just need to disregard anything else that he/she "teaches" of "informs" us......
@@azra_aurora10 yep, cuz there are better people out there to explain the exact same thing who actually work as ATCs or at airports and not like this random guy who didn't know enough or cared to understand aviation properly
@polytekhat isn't it only said as "three three" to limit risk of miscommunication? Where is that risk when you can hear it clearly with no radio static? I don't think this video was meant strictly for pilots and those working in the industry, which is the assumption you seem to have made here
Is he on a radio, communicating in a manner to be clearly heard the first time in potential life and death situations? NO. Therefore thirty-three is just fine and you’re an immature pedant. Go away.
Three. three is generally used in Radiotelephony. Thirty three is perfectly fine for a general discussion such as this video.
What about the landside/airside design of Tampa and Orlando? The best layout by far.
I flew out of Orlando a lot for college. I liked the convenience of the satellite terminals (On less busy mornings, I got to my gate in under 20 minutes), but the central hub is poorly laid out, and it needs a redesign so that it is more intuitive for travelers. Transfers between terminals require going through TSA a 2nd time, the check in areas don't have enough space for the lines, and you have to rely on signage to find your terminal, because the hallways don't properly funnel passengers towards the gates. The airport is still lightyears better than JFK, Boston, or Denver, but it needs improvement.
Re: Title: Means "Stay off the grass!"
This helped so much THANK YOU
Great video! Design and clear signage is so important but can only do so much to prevent you from getting lost. We have a photo navigation application that can guide you around and make finding those connections easily
Thank you. I’ve been wondering about this for years !
When landed and the door is open, don’t stand up and stretch, don’t continue talking with your idiot seat neighbors, grab your shit and go, like now, IMMEDIATELY 👏🫵👉
instrument landing system ATC Mexico
This plane are flown every day in Russia))) Just look at SSJ-100 And try to find 10 changes😉😉😉
