GoFarm Hawaiʻi is a Statewide beginning farmer training program of the University of Hawaiʻi.
Originally known as the Agribusiness Incubator Program (AIP), the program was formed in 2003 at the University of Hawaiʻi College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (UH CTAHR). Designed to support the business needs of Hawaiʻi’s local agriculturalists, the program provided one-on-one business consulting and technical assistance to agricultural producers throughout the state. They later launched the GoFarm Hawaiʻi beginning farmer training program in late 2012 after recognizing the need for a program dedicated to training new farmers.
GoFarm Hawaiʻi has grown to become one of the largest and most successful beginning farmer development programs in the country. This is a testament to many hands and minds, and the tremendous support of our partners. It is the new farmers that this program has produced that is most exciting for Hawaiʻi’s agricultural future and sustainability.

Thanks for watching! Weedmat can be used as long as it's in good condition. It will break down over time due to wear and tear, but we've used the same weedmat for years.

Hawaii farms will never be able to compete with mainland. What Hawaii should do is management water resources, surface resovoirs for farmers so Hawaii can sell in summer when places like California dry up into a desert.
To me farmers are modern day Hero's! Da Farm is so beautiful in all it's bounty! Aloha!

This was a year ago....wonder how these people are doing after the disaster that Ige created by his lockdown/quarantine crap!
We're glad you asked! A lot of our farmers were actually thriving during the lockdowns due to low inventory from the mainland. So in a sense, it helped push the local economy to be more local centric and support our local farmers. Mahalo for your concern! :)

@10:42 LOL! Ironic and sad. Poi is very expensive in the super market. A small plastic bag is $8 to $10. Crazy! Hawaiian food is also pretty pricey. I watched another video of Bobby's. He is a true kanaka. Super wise. I'm going to fly to Maui one day from Oahu to check out his farm. Would love to see it and meet him.

I'm a gardener, and I grow in the middle desert. This place looks like paradise compared to the challenges of my area :-) Farming is different. I've worked on farms, so I know how's it can be. However there are methods that you can take from botany and horticulture to improve yield, and reduce work. The issue is profitability. People starting on a shoe string trade time for capital. They them have established patterns of work that they are reluctant to change, or if they want to scale up, they use standard practices because they need to get loans and insurance to obtain capital, and it is hard to do that if you are not doing it the standard, capital intensive automated way. It's a bit of a puzzle. But I think there is enormous potential in Hawaii for self sustainability.
