It's deceptively difficult to pull off actively capturing a narrative that is interesting to watch. It takes investment from both the viewer and creator.

@@ChongqingPeter There’s a few new accounts by local journalists and academics that are far better at doing this… and English is no longer a barrier. Tourist will show the Urumqi bazaar a million times. Chinese in the know will tackle China information. And there will be another transition for us foreign content creators in the near future. More niche. More personal. To me, it would be like going back where I started. It’s been an interesting journey, though

Comments are cheap everywhere. Ask someone more creative to write you one.

And hopefully more normalized for foreigners also. Everybody working together to make everywhere a better place.

It's still too early to be sure but we think there is new discussion brewing. The old days were often weighed down by "pro-anti" drama and then covid hit. More recently we've been clocking a small but growing batch of fresh voices interested in deeper topics. Culture, life and in generally more fun! If we're right I think we may be on the cusp of an enlightening new time where foreigners and Chinese can collaborate, learn and create super cool new stuff. We just need to put in the hard work and maybe even keep our fingers crossed just a little bit. 🤘

The memo was Gweilo's vid "What Happened to the CHINA UA-cam COMMUNITY?". Not saying they all left but that many have just moved on. At some point the content gets redundant. That's been our credo since 2017. If you missed it I think he mentioned you by name!

We would like to get to all of those things. We're getting there by building a community that we hope will start to manifest in a visual way. Mostly we're just going to goof off and try to be even more silly then ever. 😋

Most are travel vloggers on vacation. Not foreigners that live in the respective cities. Which is great because that means the word is out, people can visit China and have good time. The travelers can make the "tour guide" type videos and the foreign content creators that live here can get on to deeper subjects. It's the win we've all dreamed of!

@@ChongqingPeter Spot on with the travel vloggers. Just so cringe at how every video is (China is not what I / We expected, China blew my mind, everything was a lie, I was wrong about China, etc)

@@ChongqingPeter I'm not a big fan of zoo, except for pandas (which is necessary for their survival). I don't judge, just i can't be happy for animals in zoo. I love your videos, i am a subscriber of your channel. And i can learn about ChongQing and hippo😀
