I worked there for many years, they don't really care if there is a real problem. They do not practice what they preach. Do not trust the Aspen Skiing Company any more than you would trust any other large corporation. The window dressing is fabulous, though.

As performed by most of the skiers, this drill teaches you nothing good. Why are they testing skiers on it? This is a clown show of ski instruction. Garlands are to teach ski tipping and similarity to enable CARVING, not skidding. Feet, ankles knees. No twisting and steering of the ski to skid a turn. Here we have a bunch of skidded turns where the skiers are steering/pivoting the ski, and most of the skiers are dangerously in the back seat as well. You can see this when their elevated ski tip is high. Only one skier came close to carving edge to edge. Most are just awful. Why did you even post this? When you go from a normal garland to a one ski garland, turns should remain CARVED. To see this done properly, watch the Burke Mountain Academy one ski drill video narrated by Mikaela Shiffrin, who knows a thing or two about turns. Also watch "One Ski Skiing and Getting The Most Out Of It" by Tom Gellie. Posting a video like you did here could very well get someone hurt. When doing "one ski" type drills, they should be CARVED so there is no steering of the ski which requires twisting that passes through the knee. One skiing can be dangerous to the knee if you make a mistake, even when you are carving them. Promoting a video with skidded turns is much riskier to the skier, where the turn requires a steering/twisting moment be applied do the ski. To anyone watching this video, do not ever try to "one ski" like this. It teaches you nothing valuable and may get you hurt. Again, watch Burkes One-Ski and Garland drills to see it done correctly - CARVING. And to the PSIA, you should evaluate performance of UPHILL ski Garlands, which are actually possible to carve edge to edge. They are also actually a very valuable drill, if you carve them. With an uphill ski garland, you have the slope of the hill to help bend the ski into an arc on the difficult off edge. You will also be initiating the normal outside edge carve down into the fall line, and this creates side momentum so the ski comes under you, setting up edge angle to initiate the difficult off edge carve. Uphill ski carved Garlands are a GREAT drill which teach inside ski awareness. It also makes you aware of how tilting the pelvic bone activates the glutes, and puts the leg in a MUCH stronger position. A carved downhill ski garland is extremely difficult because you are transitioning to the off edge DOWN THE FALL LINE. This requires very aggressive ski loading when the ski is on the normal edge to get the ski up and under your, but even then you have to initiate that off edge turn into the fall line. The athleticism to do this should not be under-estimated. To do an uphill ski garland, one-ski edge to edge carved is World Cup skier level stuff. THIS is why everyone in this video is skiing so poorly and skidding all the turns. Because none of them are close to athletically capable of doing this drill carved.

Looks more like a short to medium radius. Each person their upper body is following the turn. In short radius the upper body is to be facing downhill the whole time and quiet.

Very refreshing and invigorating this truly inspired approach to easing one's head and body down a slope. Striking up a harmonious , balanced, and overt conversation between the eyes and the body . Ya thanks for putting this descriptive - observational participant framework out there. It has cleared up a blockage in my neck , allowing for greater sensory flow and improved cyclical information for the body and head.
