Just had a brand new garage door installed. They list it as the "World's Strongest Garage Door". We chose the HurricaneMaster garage door as it does seem to be the strongest door possible. Here is a vlog of the installation.
After it was installed it felt like a concrete wall when I pushed against it. Very impressive! So different from the door that was removed. This HurricaneMaster door has a few patents they own in the way it is constructed. The panels of the garage door are different. Each panel has an unseen steel substructure and then the metal sheathing it attached to that. Most other doors use the sheathing itself as the base, and because of that they nee to use huge 4 inch support beams to gain the strength to make hurricane code.
The HurricaneMaste door I picked out is actually stronger than those doors with the thick 4 inch beams and is the strongest door possible. It is nice to just sit here and talk about it, but in the middle of a hurricane, with the winds lasting for hours it is a pretty comfortable feeling to know I have done the most I could do to keep the storm outside.
The J.B. Garage Door installers (Felix and Leo) also brought the attachment pressure treated wood that was already there up to code by installing HUGE Tapcon screws into the concrete block every 7 inches. It was originally installed with just 4 cut nails on each strip, now it looks like it was sewn to the wall lol.
