To us, Musical Theatre is some of the most beautiful and complex writing in the world and so it deserves to be performed with a backing track that adds to that performance and doesn't sound like it comes from a Drum Machine in the 1980s (unless it's the Phantom of the Opera Overture, in which case that is exactly what it is).
