The first day if our 2024 vacation. We not only ride on the Heritage Trail, the Elroy Sparta, the Ahnapee, but we got to view parts of this country we have never been to. The whole thing was working out to be longer than I thought anyone would view so I broke it down into pieces. Join us for some great and not so great adventures.
The TJ Evans Trail, Newark Ohio

Newark has the TJ Evans Trail and the TJ Evans Panhandle Trail. Even though the Panhandle has a giant picnic basket, no kidding a giant basket, this trail is much more scenic. It does promise a mastodon at the other end. It doesn't deliver but there is a sign...and a flooded bench.

In central Pennsylvania they did a fine job making this 10 mile trail. We started in Curwensville and rode to Grampian and back. Then on to Clearfield. It was a fun little ride

Redbank Valley Trail: Brookville and New Bethlehem

I've done videos on the Redbank before. But I have some new equipment to check out. Plus there is always something new to see. We saw some signs of a beaver and a bat out during the day. Plus some new statuary along the way. It was a fun ride.

A nice little ride featuring a bald eagle. Moraine State Park is about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Beautiful boating, fishing, and a nice, paved bike trail. It is not a rails to trails but we can let that go.
The Western Reserve Greenway, Rome Ohio

The Western Reserve Greenway is a long trail that runs south out of Ashtabula Ohio, along the eastern part of Ohio. We only did a few miles on this cold April day but I thought that the waterfall was worth the video. Enjoy the ride from the warm comfort of your home.

I have shown this section of the GAP trail before. There are three reasons why I am showing it again. I wasn't going to upload it. This video was just to be for practice with my new drone and editing with it. But I like the drone footage. Because it is springtime you can see more of what lies beyond the trees. With all the rain there are some beautiful waterfalls as well as the spectacular outf...

Ohio does its rails to trails right. Fun little ride. We did get wet but that didn't stop my wife from petting the horses.

Ohio does it right and has so many beautiful trails. This trail is top tier even for them. Of course the fact that I got to play on a real steam locomotive didn't hurt. I do try to keep my videos under 20 minutes but I don't succeed very often. The last several minutes were a couple of files of photos that I found after doing most of my editing. Instead of trying to shoehorn them in I just put ...

We were on this trail near Cass and a bear cub ran across the trail so close if I had not hit the brakes I would have hit it. I knew momma was nearby, so we shagged ass out of there but quick !! .. then a large cat trotted onto the trail.... they say they don't have cougars but we saw it !! ... we stopped while it watched us for a few minutes then started walking our way. We decided to go back toward the bear as fast as we could and hope for the best. We couldn't get back to the truck fast enough. We had a very brave fearless Manchester terrier with us that would have got killed by either one of those if we got any closer, because he would attack and lose.
@@FlagshipTrains I was half expecting Sasquatch to come out of those woods. Glad you survived unscathed. My wife will be jealous. I am not.
Beautiful scenery!
Must be done...💪🚴♂️🦵
Cool video! Great job!!
Barge right in! Funny stuff! Thanks for sharing. Nice to visit with my brother and his lovely wife.
@@griz1312 sometime you guys should come along. I'll put you in the video
Hmm no homeless camps like Pittsburgh?
@@KubotaManDan not too many trails do. PGH does have a problem
very nice albeit a bit wet
Ha ha ha...Great video.
Drone
Love the Dtone
Love flowers and cow smell....🤔😂😅
Those bars are very dangerous!
Pennsylvania is a Beautiful State!
Nice Shirt! 💪🦵🚴♂️
Pro tip, ride in the other direction, starting from New Bethlehem, that way the ride back to the car is downhill. If you are on e-bikes disregard. BTW, that definitely looks like they've cleared a good amount of debris out of that tunnel.
I used to always check elevations before we would go to a trail. Then we got the e bikes. BUT, even on an e bike we enjoy the downhill reward.
Great job! I can see the joy in your faces and hear it in your voices! 💪🦵🚴♂️🚴♂️
we have a ball
Drone work....pretty cool!
It is a fun new piece of equipment
Great video! Love the camera and video work. I just Subscribed. I am @IMBruceECLECTIC
glad you enjoyed it. I'm figuring it all out as I go
@robkeener6709 ...outstanding! Impressed..jealous....
The gopro uses a software that zooms in and cuts the edges of the video off to stabilize the video. it works, but it also diminishes the quality of the footage. (don't get me wrong, i'm still contemplating getting one lol
The stuff that I pull from the GoPro to my computer is pretty incredible. It loses more resolution after it is uploaded to UA-cam. All that pixelating that happens there is never on my computer.
Ooohh. Cool new toy! Ray and I will be there in June. Looks like you both are doing well. I’d love to see the Outflow blowing that way! Enjoy
We are both quite well. Hope you guys are enjoying your B class.
Been there once I love riding in the tunnels
I think I'm doing this in late May 2024. Still undecided. Looks good.
It won't disappoint
Looks beautiful out there. I'm planning to ride that trail myself this summer. I appreciate getting these looks at what's ahead of me 😉
That's partly why I do it
I ebike the Conotton Creek twice a week from April to early November. It is a beautiful ride.
Quite the hidden gem that we only found because it was in between two other destinations.
That trail is right by my parents property.
I am jealous. I would love to have a trail nearby to my house. The nearest trailhead to my "home" trail is 6 miles away. on roads that I don't want to ride a bike on.
my brother lives in kent never seen his house I got lost once trying to find its general location but he works so much he is seldom home. that trail wasnt half bad. was that west branch lake? we used to go t here as kids to swim. that campground do you have to reserve or is it first come first serve?
If a campground has an empty spot they typically will let you take it. We have been finding that it is increasingly difficult to find a campground that is not full up, especially on the weekends. Getting a last minute reservation is not easy. Sometimes you get lucky and there will be a last minute cancellation that you can get. I wouldn't count on it though. We had imagined this impulsive nomadic lifestyle were we could just go and find a place for the night. It ain't so.
Great ice cream place in the middle. Also great free concerts at Sally Buffalo park at Cadiz,Oh nearby in the summer. General Custer statue nearby in New London,Oh - hometown.
We'll have to remember that for next time
I enjoyed this trail too
Everyday I wake up early and go walk by local towpath. Today it was blocked off by some kind of event so I came home and decided to work out there. This video was recommended to me … you ended up connecting to my local path and I saw the part in at daily… 🔋🙌🏽
Somebody is recommending my stuff? Cool.
Love this trail on the Belmar Bridge over the Allegheny, however I'm not a big fan of grafitti. It's been a couple of years since I've been on the trail, but it seems the grafitti is getting more and more prevelant, what a shame! It's not "art."
Not a fan of graffiti either. If they have to do it they could at least be creative
Those are nice trails. The trails are solid and the views are interesting. Your conversations are amusing. Thank you for sharing your really cool adventures with us armchair travelers. Well said about e-bikes! 😊😊 (subscribed) The Empire State Trail runs alongside a portion of the *modern Erie/Barge Canal* (b. 1905--1918) It was built without towpaths; specifically for motorized barges. [Prism size: 150 feet across (side to side) the top/? feet across the bottom. Depth 12+ feet] Where the most recent (modern/in use) canal was built near the old canal, the (now called the) " *Old Erie Canal* " and the original Erie Canal (aka: " *Clinton's Ditch* ") were used as feeder canals and waste weirs (overflow) channels. There is a *Canalway Erie Canal Trail* that goes through the Erie Canal Heritage Corridor (sponsored by the National Park Service and NY state. In some places the Empire StateTrail intersects the Erie Canal Trail and the bicycle, hiking/walking trail is the original canal towpath. *Original Erie Canal* / " *Clinton's Ditch* " (b. 1817--1825) [Prism: 40 feet across the top/ 26 feet across the bottom Depth 4 feet. Towpath: about 12 feet across; usually on the south side of the canal] There was a Cholera epidemic along the canal in 1832. After that tragedy clean drinking water was pumped down from clean resevoirs for the canal workers. *Expanded/Improved Erie Canal* /" *Old Erie Canal * "(b.1835 --1862) It was built parallel to the original canal. [Prism 70 feet across the top/ ?' across the bottom, Depth 6 feet with a towpath] This version of the canal was continually upgraded (larger locks, etc. added) until about 1900. By then motorized barges had begun to appear on the Old Erie Canal. *Barge Canal* (b. 1905--1918) took a new route from the older canals; using canalized rivers and incorporating natural lakes (Oneida Lake, Cross Lake, etc..) and using reinforced cement rather than cut stone for its infrastructure. This canal was expanded until the 1970's when it could no longer compete with the newly built (1954--1859) St. Lawrence Seaway. The Erie/Barge canal channel is still maintained along with the working locks. This interactive site shows all 3 canals: *Erie Canal Mapping Project* eriecanalmappingproject.com/
Holy smokes. What a lot of great information. I'll be checking out the site
The marina reminds me of Pymatuning. I love how Babbi talks herself up the hill!
Much much smaller than Pymatuning. A whole lot closer to home though
Beautiful sites. Makes me wish Ray and I could bike!
Lots of options out there. You just need to find one that fits your pocketbook.
I lked riding this trail. I will have to get back to it soon. The first time I rode this trail, I saw three bear cubs running away from the trail. Thankfully, Mama Bear was not visible. 😮
I was hoping for a sasquatch
Most of the men who built the Erie canal were Irish. Many of them settled along the Erie canal. It was called Clinton"s ditch. The canal was built under budget & ahead of schedule. They made their money back in 9 years.
I heard that they made a million in the first year alone
@@robkeener6709 It cost approximately seven million to build. At the time the Erie Canal was being built, the last of the UK canals was completed and opened for business (i.e. Scotland's Union Canal, 1822) UK had 5,000 miles of canals at that point. Clinton's Ditch (original Erie Canal) was only 363 miles long. It was the first successfully built canal in the USA at that point in time and sparked a Canal Mania throughout the USA. The Erie Canal was built through wilderness (1817-1825) westward from Rome, NY. The Mohawk river valley was the Frontier during the Seven Years War/French and Indian War (1754--1763) It was still lightly populated after the American Revolution (1776--1783) Some American Revolution battles were fought within the basin of the Mohawk River. The Mohawk River basin began to be settled after freedom was achieved and migration from the British Isles (highest percentage of imigrants at the time) increased. Germans, French, Swedes Norhtern Italians (stone cutters) and others came to the Mohawk valley in smaller numbers. Many went westard to the "Old Northwest" (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, later Michigan) after the Erie Canal was built. Although there was always some immigration from Italy and Greece. Those countries (in particular southern Italy) sent immigrants once the Industrial Revolution kicked in for the USA. What we now call the American Midwest was opened much later (in the mid to late 1800's because of railroads).
"Come on in, the water's fine". Hahaha, you guys are a gas. Thanks for taking us along.
we do have fun
experience v education, public service announcement! Fun stuff
Thanks. I have a fun time
I have ridden this trail starting at Peck Road to Towner Woods lot. There are also Geocaches along the section.
Definalty need to ride this one thanks for sharing
yes, you definalty do
Such an excellent trail love it !
So many great places to go
You got to watch yourself out there. Especially closer to Akron or Cleveland. Trust me, I grew up in Streetsboro.
Haven't even had a hint of trouble so far. Do you know of any events?
Can only hear one side of the conversation
I have different software now and can do more with the audio than when I made this
Hi Rob you came into my hospital room today my name is Patti, we were talking about the trails from down by the jail up to Millvale you said you grew up in Avalon n I said I lived in Millvale was nice talking to you I’m a new Subbie to your channel
Cool. Maybe you'll get some inspiration from my little movies.
That model also has regenerative braking, which is nice. Gets you a bit more range.
It does. But the way we ride, mostly on rails to trails, it doesn't make much difference.
I had an RV just that size. Loved it. I was also just in that area of Ohio. Great time. Enjoy!
We do. Thank you
Thank You for making such a great video of our beautiful trail. There is so much more to see should you choose to begin from a different point on the trail. In the fall and winter we take our six year old on The Polar Express train ride through much of what you rode through. Thanks again for showing off our beautiful piece of Northeast Ohio. We can forgive you for being from Steelers Country as well!!! Beautiful video sir.
I am so glad you enjoyed my video. But, oh my goodness, "should [we] choose to begin from a different point..." well, we most certainly did. And, as much as we enjoyed this trip, I think the trip from Canal Fulton to Akron is even prettier. We have gone from Cleveland down to Massillon and even ridden the Sippo Trail. The videos are all here if you'd like to see them too. Peninsula is such a great place to start though. I have videos of the Western Reserve Trail as well and, ironically, we were just riding it again yesterday. Thanks.
The concrete pipe is the main sewer line that goes to the sewage treatment plant.
With as many sewage treatment plants that we have seen on our rides that is the first we've seen a tube like that. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you for this video. I've ridden this portion on a bike and it is a very pretty ride. At Bolanz road is Szaly's fsrm market, where you can get fresh sweet corn.
We drove back and got some veggies ourselves.
What is the measurement from the lowest seat setting to the floor?
Dunno. Truly the bike is a little short for me. But just a little. I'm sure that Rad has that information
Congratulations on your new "longest" ride. I really enjoyed your video. Thank You for Sharing.
thanks
