According to bmw's service system, these engines don't have nikasil coating. Instead, it's a plasma discharge technology called LDS. These liners CANNOT be resized and usually requires sleeving the block or replacement of the block. Unless this is the older version of the s63 engine (B0), alusil would be the lining technology, which needs only a silicon-based lapping compound and skill. The last option can be a cylinder sleeve added to the engine Long answer.. i know

@@natedog9383Thanks for the detailed response. I know these engines quite well in fact, and their factory cylinder coating technology. I rebuilt a couple of O0 engines and Alusil simply doesn’t seem to be up to the task, even in stock form. I am interested to „upgrade“ the block by having it Nicasil coated, hence my initial question.

@@maximilianlindner with the right parts you might be able to do the nikasil coated cylinder walls with the right parts. The big down side with nikasil is the 'peeling' effect that happens if the coating is poorly done. I know a place that does this in canada, no affiliation.

It has to do with the metal composition of the engine. So technically, it's not a coating.

N63TU ans S63TU are basically the same engines

I think main difference is flat plane crank, cams, turbos and intake design. Could be wrong.

They share a crank actually, cams are only slightly different on the exhaust side. The reason why the S63T sounds like a flat plane crank V8 is due to the design of the exhaust manifold, other than that you are right in the main differences being the turbochargers and the intake design. Block, crank, and rods are the same between an S63T and an N63T, main difference being the piston dome profile and of course fueling.@@devontaykarter6648

If you want a realibe German V8. Buy a AMG. I've driven both M8 and CLS63. In the long run the M177 4.0 is gonna be more reliable than the S63.

​@zali9657 I've also driven and owned both, and I whole heartedly disagree. The CLS63 did not come with the M177 engine. It came with the M157 engine, which was NOTORIOUS for timing chain stretch issues leading to oil starvation and cylinder wash. My engine went after 2 months of running a conservative 93 tune with downpipes.

Nikasil is still used quite a lot in Motorsport and powerboat racing
