So I have this cozy fall scent...but it has 5% vanillin in it, which discolors the soap as it cures. This one is a brightly colored, lemony verbena scented goat milk soap. I created a bright green using lilypad green and new leaf green micas, a maroon color by mixing lapis blue, crimson wine, and amethyst purple, and amethyst purple alone, all micas by Crafter's Choice, except New Leaf Green is by Nurture Soap. The house that I grew up in had a beautiful lilac bush that would put out the most heavenly scented blooms every May. This soap is an homage to days long ago, when I would sit under that lilac bush/tree and breathe in the intoxicating fragrance of its flowers. I’ve never done 100% palm oil, but I put it in every loaf and it does make a hard bar❣️
neither have I until this one. I have done 100% coconut (with a 20% superfat) and 100% olive oil, which I did not care for, felt like washing with slime. This was a first with 100% palm and I was pleasantly surprised.
What temperature do you recommend the lye water when adding it to the oil?
When making liquid soap, it really doesn't matter. You are pouring your lye water into oils that have already been warmed by the slow cooker. It's all getting heated by the slow cooker anyway. You just want to make sure that you are constantly using your stick blender and stirring in between bursts while working to get to trace, so that the batter doesn't overheat and bubble over. When making cold process soap, I like my lye water and my oils to be in the 90 to 100 degree range. It seems to be my sweet spot. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

You mentioned preservatives. Can you elaborate on that? Thank you very much for the video!
It is not necessary to use a preservative when making liquid soap for home use, but since I sell my products,I want to ensure that my liquid soap is safe and bacteria free for my customers. I use an all purpose preservative that is made to blend with water soluble liquids, in this case, Germall plus. Bacteria growth is rare in handmade liquid soap, but I make my products with the highest standards.
