At first, I thought that this fixture somehow had a reduced envelope BT28 400W M59 probe start metal halide lamp installed.

From what I remember, recessed can HID fixtures were commonly used in indoor environments including shopping malls. As a matter of fact, there is a local shopping mall near my house that still has a good number of 100W H38 mercury vapor recessed can fixtures still in use as of my last visit sometime this year.

Cool old style fixture. Wow four amps per fixture is insane. You can really only put four on a 20 amp circuit.

Very cool fixtures. Definitely not something that is installed anymore today. I think they were common in commercial applications up until CFL took over. Those fixtures must have a thermal protector in the can somewhere because of the high level of heat generated.

there is a way to set the low speed so it is lower. it’s called a trim pot. there is a tiny screw in the box connected to the speed knob, and when you turn it it makes the low speed slower :)

I have one like this, but with Candelabra-based sockets. When I replaced it's swollen capacitor, some people wanted me to destroy it instead.

You could modify it with putting a light bulb socket in it

I love this type of led because it looks kinda cool

If you wanted to mount it outside you could put sheet metal over the hole and cut a hole for the photocell socket and put jb weld around the sheet metal so no water gets in and you can put sealant around the photocell socket

2:48 Mine just like that has seen better days though. I got it from eBay at a ridiculous price based on it's questionable condition, but I still got it anyways because my positivity on these still got the best of me. I replaced it's swollen capacitor and it works great, though some other fan collectors/enthusiasts were frustrated and wanted me to destroy it instead.
