"Construction" Driveway is in! | 100 Acre Homestead
Rough driveway is in. Will grade it more in the future and add to low spots. Should be good enough for big trucks to make it in when we need them to for now. Once the majority of the house is finished and the area is landscaped I will gravel the driveway/make it nice

Clearing wedding venue | 100 Acre Homestead
Переглядів 219 годин тому
Got a lot of our wedding venue cleared of trees. Another day and I should have it ready to go. Would have loved to do it at the point overlooking the lake, but to make the road passible by vehicles (even 4x4 ones), I would have another 3 weeks of working to have it safe to use. Would have to build a switch back up the side of the mountain, build a bridge or another culvert, fix a very muddy are...

Helped someone out last weekend and in exchange he traded two 20ft culverts and a connector! I have been looking for months for some used ones (impossible to find) but somehow managed to get brand new ones. New price on them are close to $500cad each $75 for the connector. Would have been roughly $1200 for all three pieces I needed. Got 11 loads of sand delivered for some guys excavation projec...
House Build pt. 3 - Mostly cleared | 100 Acre Homestead
Переглядів 10814 днів тому
Spent another day cleaning up the house area. Still have a decent amount of trees to take down around the area (to save have to cut them down after the house is built), but trying to save as many as I can. Excited with how much progress has been made (mostly because of Dalton's help). It was worth spending the time cutting trees down the hillside as the view is amazing.

Possible pond build? | 100 Acre Homestead

Wedding location on the property has changed due too steep of hill and lack of time to fix it. Thinking of making one of the pools of water into a pond? Still not sure it's a good idea.

Hill might be too steep to safely climb, will probably be best to build some switch backs in the future.

Finally got the first parking area stripped to bedrock. Going to need to lots of fill. Was a LOT of topsoil to move and still not sure what I'm going to do with it in the future. I am also scared at how much gravel we will need!

I've been getting all my drinking water from a spring for years, Only thing is if it rains alot it can get contaminated. What a great find!

That's awesome. Do you put it through any sort of treatment? Do you have any sort of reservoir to hold it? I've been thinking of putting a tank underground and treating it as a well. Just stick a pump in the tank

I think that's a great idea. So in 4 year i got sick once because a deer drank and shit in my spring all winter. After that i put a small fence around were the spring come out to stop the deer and no issues since. So no treatment, but i protect the spring from animals now.

Hemlock is great wood. Does not rot just like cedar and makes great posts. You can use it green if you want to be able to put a nail threw it easily. I have lots of Hemlock too.

my cat will eat a little cream cheese and a little cottage cheese , but wont touch any other kinds of cheese. Leave 2 bowls outside the door , out of the way of foot traffic , one for food and the other for water. eventually you will a Cat, or as the Ancient Egyptians knew a God, telling you what to do. 😎
