How to Make a Magnetic Bottle Opener That's SUPER Easy!
Use a cheap serrated steak knife, the skinny kind. No boiling. Just hold it still with one hand and saw thru it. Takes 5 seconds
Where do you get your slate blanks from?
I get them from Amazon. If you go to the original video, the link will be in the description.
whats the spray to make it slide better?
What??? I couldn’t hear you over the music
I have made Wreaths using wine corks. I did not cut them in half but I have some ideas I want to try with them being cut in half and will try your method you shared here. Thanks so much!
I want to make one that stands on the side of the arm of the sofa and one that goes in between 2 people on the longer sofa, But make them if I can,so that the smaller one slides under the larger one as a coffee table great vid and simple plan I could use.
How do those compare to the DEWALT TOUGHSERIES Screwdrivers?
Seems high to me! But it’s worth what the market will bear. Torn between not coating to allow the slate to absorb moisture from the glass and spraying it for contrast.
Man, $40 for a set of four? That's more than I was thinking. I guess I need to get after it. I have my first batch of blank slate coasters arriving later tonight, going to do some for family to see how it goes, then do some American flags and Sonoran desert themed stuff since I'm in Phoenix. We have tourists and snowbirds, so I was thinking a table at a swap meet with some different offerings.
Right on, I hope this video helps you out. Test out your market and find the sweet spot for your pricing. I vacation out on the river in Parker and you are absolutely correct about the snowbirds. I think you could do well if you have some designs that are different than others and if you offer additional slate decor items. Of course anything you can do that is custom will be a big money maker also. Good luck to you.
I took a piece of coated slate to my local shop that has a CO2 laser. It was an old slate roof shingle and I did not paint it. They were running 500dpi (which after your video seems really high). Even without painting it black, what is the highest you would go on dpi? It did seemed washed when they were showing me their tests, mind you this was a 13mb high res photo as well.
Nope!
The trash
What is your go to tool brand?
Glad you made it absolutely clear you're not a Cowboys fan...
Haha, although my Packers are not the greatest right now either.
Thank you so much for this video! Exactly what I needed to do for my wine cork Christmas tree craft project.
I’m happy to hear it helped you with your project. I’m sure it came out awesome!
Such a neat idea
Thank you for the comment. I know he is still using the table today.
how did you line up the coasters. Im still new to this
I permanently attached my laser to a piece of 3/4 inch plywood and then ran a grid pattern onto the wood that represents the grid you see in Lightburn. Since the laser is fixed to the wood, you just lay your project piece in the correct location on the grid and hit go. Everything will be perfectly aligned. I hope that helps. If it would be helpful to see a video let me know.
@TheDadCave a video would be nice thank you!
Thinking about switching to Resincrete. Can this be used for candles?
If you mean making candle holders, yes.
@@TheDadCave ty
Can you use mica powders and alcohol inks to color? No alcohol inks for candle holders though.
You do a great job MR J... I like your set up too. Great seeing you my friend.
As always, I appreciate you checking in and commenting! I’ll be looking out for your next livestream.
Good stuff. I'm new to engraving (5w laser) and going to try slate coasters, for personal use (at first). I was expecting $20 for a set of 4 but your profit margin is awesome - congrats. My question is do you have to lacquer them? Do you need to do that to preserve the engraving or is it just for getting that shine on them? Either way, thanks for the video.
Thanks for the question! I clear coat them for the exact reasons you mentioned. I got some slate coasters as part of a whiskey set that were laser engraved and over time the image on the coasters faded with use. I figure the clear coat would help to prevent fading and enhances the image contrast. Good luck with your laser. I am planning more laser engraving videos, are there any other topics you might want covered in videos?
Hey dad cave
Hello! How are you?
@@TheDadCave doing good how are u
@dixiecuddlesfitness doing great! Keeping busy!
What clear do you use?
@@TK-le8wd I like Deft Spray Lacquer but you can use any spray on clear coat.
Thats pretty good
Iron your flag dumbass
Not cool
Did you experience any shrinkage of the corks, or other unforseen effects, after the project was completed?

Would love to see @evenandkatelyn try this
I haven’t heard of their channel before. What is their channel about?
@TheDadCave they do a lot of big scale resin crafts They do other stuff but they work a lot with resin
3 year old video has helped me today! I gound out real wuick corks are hard to cut! Want to make some handmade Christmas gifts using them...TY!
I’m glad to hear the video helped you out with your project. Wine corks make for great Christmas gifts!
How do you make those holes? Forstner?
Drill press? Are you able to use a 2.5 inch forstner bit at 750 rpm? That’s as low as my drill press would go
Correct! They were a customer request to hold plastic cups for Jell-O shots.
@@TheDadCave thank you for responding. I’m having some difficulty making these
I used a drill press. I believe I used a 1.5” for the hole. I’m not entirely sure what rpm my drill was set to. I just know it was set to the fastest.
@NotaBot005 with the holes specifically?
Looks like each one gets harder to cut due to the cooling. Supposedly STEAMING them works better than boiling them directly in the water and steaming only requres 3-5 minutes.
I didn’t notice a difference as I was cutting them. I think steaming could also be a good option and achieve the same result. I might give it a shot to see. Thanks for the option.
I want those sprays names plsss
Thanks for the question. I use Deft Spray Lacquer Satin finish. You can use other spray on clear coats but Deft is my absolute favorite. You can find a link in the video description. I hope this helps!
I don't have cork how I make cork?
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for this other than save them after opening wine bottles.
Thank you for the great video. Can it be engraved?
I’m glad you found it useful! It’s funny you mention trying to laser engrave it. I was thinking of that same question myself. I am working on a video right now as a matter of fact.
Goodmoening
Good morning to you!

Did an excellent job of executing this project.
Thank you sir! It was a fun build. The best part is I still get to see it on a regular basis since it was for my sister in law.

Thank you for the feedback.
Great video and interesting!! I have some wine corks and i do want to use them and make art & crafts! Have a good day and weekend. I saw you in brian live chat! Thank you for sharing.
@heatherlandskron thank you so much for the feedback and stopping by to check out my channel. Looking forward to joining up on the livestream next week!
Sounds like those coasters were not selling. Honestly sounds like great feedback from your customer base.
I believe your customers will tell you everything you need to know that’s for sure.
Just don't sell shitty coasters no? 😅
😂 I feel like this advice applies to any item that you’re trying to sell.
Our friend Cory sent me! New Sub!
Nice! I appreciate it. Check out my videos and let me know what you like!
Honestly it's such a specific market, 100,000$ might be acceptable for the right product. It's about who's looking and how it's marketed ;)
I completely agree that marketing makes a huge difference when it comes to selling anything. Thank you for joking the conversation.
I'm back to watch this video again MR J... It's even better than I remember it... Love it! Great to see you on the live stream too buddy. I shared your video on my community tab... Yee-Haw!
Hey thanks for that Cory! This video was a blast to make! Cheers to you buddy! 👊😀🍻
yes
Out of curiosity, what makes you think the market is saturated. No wrong answer, just curious on your perspective.
just subbed through Cory
Awesome! Welcome "aboard". That's a woodworkers joke. Trying my best to beat Cory and his one liners. Haha.
Thanks for a shout out, man! I do a live broadcast every Wednesday night. 9pm cst. Open Mic. feel free to come up on panel.
