Recurring Anxiety and depression, in most, but not all, has been shown to be linked to trauma at an early age. Sometimes when the child is preverbal. Medication only masks the trauma response of depression. Talk therapy is the only remedy which removes the trauma memory permanently, meds are only temporary measures, when a permanent one exists.

Yes..no Zen without Satori..sounds great , but is only for a very very few..so for others it's about making a sound connection to their soul. ..recognizing and understanding their living innate spirit..and live in agreement with it. I hope to go Korea one day and have a conversation with these guys high up in Seon Buddhism..and talk about the future of Seon Buddhism. I think I have to wash some ears there. So that they can hear ..the murmur of the brook..within them..the river of spirit that carries the water of life.

I think Korean govt waited for that moment for HHDL to get to that stage where he wouldnt be able to travel far distant. Korean Buddhist community worked really hard but if the Korean govt still have no balls to invite HHdL then Korea is still a powerless country regardless of all the advancement in economy n lifestyles

I deeply miss this man. After graduate school, I found myself in a deep state of depression and confusion. While browsing through a book store, I picked up a book called "The Miracle of Mindfulness." This started a life long journey into Buddhist teachings and a fascination with these teachings. Now, within myself, I am peaceful, loving, joyful, and have a profound appreciation for my existence. Today I have come to realize, that I did not find this book, Thich Nhat Hanh found me.

@@lesley9023 Thank you Lesley. I'm wishing you great peace and happiness. The following is something shared with me, and I hope you also find some understanding with it. "We come into this existence with nothing, and we leave with nothing. There is nothing to be gained in this life and there is nothing to lose in this life. All we can take with us is our experiences of life." As a result, I practice remaining aware of how fortunate I am just to exist. I've learned to tread lightly on this planet. ❤

Same here. I think our specific disorder is not understood so well, to say the least. I believe everything he said is accurate for a lot of situation, and may apply to those of us with Bipolar except for the part about going off our meds, lol. The environment, the thought patterns, everything else...to me is as important or more important than meds, but the meds are still important. Meds don't bar my meditation practice from depth and efficacy, so I will not be taking myself off meds this lifetime lol
