    Hey hey, TripDressings, nice clip as usual! Hope all is well in Fukuoka. The mentaiko pasta and the grilled chicken looks good. Also the mackerel with white miso. Hmmm, the advices for hindus seem to be often for strict vegetarians, sometimes not. Not all hindus are total vegetarians. Beef is always out of the question, but chicken, lamb, fish and even pork, in for example Goa, are eaten. I have been to India and cook a lot of Indian food. The warnings seem a bit narrow, but I guess Indian people in Japan ofc can figure this out. The advices for pork to muslims are obvious. Do these advices include halal slaughter or not? No advices for jews? Well, enough of that. I eat basically all except insects. And actually lately I stopped eating tako - big octopus and whale because I think they are such beautiful creatures. And, no, do not eat dog either, but happily eat horse. I have a creeping feeling that my view might change about pigs, not for any religious reasons. I had pigs at a farm for many years, they were bloody smarter and more social than my dogs. Also goats were very smart. But most sheep, cows, hen, ducks, elks, deers and fish etc I consider close to vegetables, that is just me. Ok, not here to discuss what one should eat or not. Sorry, I can not comment on the pizza. The beef bowl looks good, but it is almost 200 yen more expensive than Matsuya! As you say. Tofu is not a fav I must say, except extremely creamy, fresh with endives and some olive oil. Or fermented with red miso Okinawan style for three weeks, stopped with awamori or vodka. I comes out like a fine French dessert cheese! Arigato and have good days!

    Another great clip, TripDressings! You are very productive. Love chikuwa surimi and surimi in general in Japan. Most are very good and sometimes quite fancy and not always so cheap. When we lived in Japan we used to buy at highway stops, different kinds from different regions. All we get here in Europe is frozen, lousy crab sticks made in some doubtable factory in Thailand, I never eat these. The Greedy gratin looks really good. I miss our 7/11 we had in the quarter where we lived for years in Nakasu, Fukuoka. I was in there one or two times a day, we got to know the family who ran it, sometimes they gave us gifts like tea cups or an ice cream etc. Sandwiches in 7/11 and other konbinis are often very good. The best in my book is the simple egg salad sando, I replicate it at home often now and I can find Kewpie mayo here in Romania. The spaghetti alle vongole looks pretty ok and well served, with garlic and some chili, but I would prefer to make my own with good olive oil, fresh parsley and white wine, it is so easy and fast. Chekmeruli! It is a dish from Georgia. How did that end up in 7/11 in Japan? :-)) It is good though, I love Georgian food, in fact Georgian cuisine is number 4 on my top ten list after Japanese, French and Italian. The country is kind of a neighbour to Romania, just some Black Sea water in between. Nice work! Arigato!

      @@TripDressings Aha, so you are in Fukuoka, maybe you said so before. It is my favorite city in the world. My Japanese gf and I lived in Nakasu on and off for 15 years and also in Minami ward. I did not work there, only did consultancy in computer security remotely and some teaching out in Ohashi and Kasuga. Mainly lived off savings and did a lot of bicycling all year around. My gf worked though in Iwataya and other fancy places so I had the time to both explore the city and suburbs, buy food and cook at home. We also travelled in Kyushu and Japan, also Korea. Beetle to Busan and then KTX up the country. Looking forward to more clips. I forward some to friends in Romania, Canada and Sweden, people are impressed with the quality and prices, (which I know very well). Arigato and have good days!

    Another great clip, TripDressings. And thank you for showing that many foods in Japan can be both delicious and very affordable. Yoshinoya is very good and the take away option is great, although I personally favor Matsuya. The stuffed shitake looks very good. The salted, grilled fish is what I want for breakfast! Have had some superb okonomiyaki in Hiroshima, especially with oysters, but it should really come straight from the hot iron plate. Hmmm, regarding the home bar set, I never knew that German food was popular as party food, never came across that during my years in Japan. I know that Italian/Japanese food is called itameshi, but what is German/Japanese food called? Hotto Motto is a very good chain. We had one close to where we lived in Nakasu, Fukuoka, by the Kawabata shopping arcade. We often bought bentos in Hotto Motto and ate in the small Reisen Park. And shared a piece of katsu or smtg with some loose dog, asking the owner first ofc. Hotto Motto is all over Japan and is recommended for pick-nicks in parks etc, good quality, easy to order and quite cheap. Yes, oysters are seasonal. In the cold seasons we used to go to Itoshima and other places and grill oysters, other shells and squid in the tents on the quais. And buy some stuff to bring home too. Arigato!

      Matsuya is great! I'll review it next time! In Japan, party food is mainly Western food, not Japanese food, and fried chicken, pizza, sausages, etc. are spread out on the table and shared by everyone. This month is Christmas, so there is a particular demand. Please let me know what you have experienced and what was popular locally!

      @@TripDressings Looking forward to a Matsuya review, we had one very close by and I was there once a week or so. Hmm, we ate and cooked mainly Japanese food in our years in Japan. My gf is Japanese and quite conservative regarding food when in Japan, but not when she is in Europe. She does not cook, I did the cooking. Often sashimi rice bowls with uni and ofc mentaiko, I used to shop towards 7 pm at half prices, also broken mentaiko at a third of the price, we were in Fukuoka after all. Also tonkatsu, chicken nabes and light motsu nabe with cabbage and yam - yamaimo gratins, very good. For a few weeks in springtime tempura with fiddlehead fern, ramson etc. Yes, German sausages could appear at BBQs with friends on a beach or in a park, but not much more. At parties or weddings etc it was mostly Japanese and Chinese foods. Pizza in Japan was almost every time disappointing, either just bad or too small, once I had a very small Marguerita with one single, small anchovy! This at 1200 yen. In restaurants we mainly enjoyed yakitori, we had a perfect one in our quarter, very varied, not only chicken and only salarymen and locals as guests. Also eel - unagi/anago places plus fish places near the fish and seafood market. Also good Korean places with BBQ in the table, Korea is close to Fukuoka. Plus kaiseki kitchen in ryokans off big holidays etc in Kyushu. A tip to tourists is to contact a travel agency to find cheap stays at ryokans off busy holidays, it does not have to be expensive if your schedule is flexible. A bit funny story which says something about Japanese quality: I am Swedish and visited IKEA in Fukuoka once and had the Swedish meatballs. In the rest of the world these are frozen and made more of flour than meat. In Japan they were pure meat and hand rolled, then fried. We learned that IKEA decided that Japanese customers would not accept the bad ones. :-))

    Great clip as always, TripDressings! The crab and ikura lunch box is nice with all the things that are included, more elegant than a Hotto Motto. Deep fried shishamo reminds of Spanish boquerones or Romanian hamsi, but should be eaten freshly fried, warm with some lemon. I have heard that they catch less shishamo now and they try to farm it. I especially enjoyed the basil chicken with green peas and lotus root, basil is not so common in Japanese kitchen. Also the uni, sea urchin, a bit pricey, but well served and delicious. I am sorry, but that pizza I will not comment on. Had a few good ones in Japan over the years, but small and expensive. I like to eat pizza with a knife and fork, in one place they sliced it up, but I wanted a knife and fork, the waitress came back with a spoon :-)) Chopsticks are always there and not only to eat with, but to cook with and to handle food. The hambagu looks very good, it is totally different animal from American burgers. I love these in Japan, especially in family restaurants. The snacks looks good, always used to have yuzu green pepper sauce with chicken nabe at home. I understand from your comments in many clips that you know much more about food than just buying packs in konbinis and supermarkets. Arigato!

    • @TripDressings
      @TripDressings 16 днів тому

      Thanks again for your comments! The snow crab bento was a luxurious bento with a wide variety of side dishes! Shishamo has been closed two years in a row, making it a precious fish. Pasta is the most popular dish with basil sauce in Japan. Sea urchin is also valuable and expensive. Prepared foods that can be eaten just by heating up a hamburger steak are foods that are available in Japan in many varieties and show great attention to detail. I will continue to introduce various foods, including those I myself do not usually choose, so please look forward to more in the future!

    Another great clip, TripDressings, 7/11 is great in Japan, not in Europe. The omurice with salmon and cream sauce I could eat once a week. The doria and the mushroom pasta too. Chiitara and Cheese Tara from Natori, cheese and surimi sheets with mentaiko are very good. The packs are very small though as often with Japanese snacks, one needs to buy several packs. I found cheese very expensive in Japan. Imported cheese was just too pricey to buy. I did like the yellow cheese from Hokkaido though, is it still sold as is, not only as tarts etc? Also love Cheeza crackers with +50% cheese from Glico, one of the best snacks I ever had. Arigato and kanpai from Romania and me.

    Yummy! I wish we had food like this at our stores that was a decent price. All we have are pre-packaged sandwiches that somehow have a best before date of almost a month!

    your videos are good but something bothers me, its your chewing sounds. Could you maybe invest in a sound blocking microphone and put that somewhere away from your mouth

      fathihaktas, it is a cultural difference. In Japan slurping noodles and chewing is a sign of appreciation. I have lived many years in Japan and at first I was also a bit disturbed, just as with bicycling on the pavements or even indoors shopping malls, but I got used to it all fast :-)

    Another good clip, TripDressings! Both dishes look great and are at resonable prices. I have tasted a few supermarket variants in Japan, but most of the time we made hot pots at home, not that much work really.
