Nuthin' But Loops and Rolls

Nuthin' but loops and rolls - just enjoying the day on the Gulf Coast in our RV-3. Head-mounted GoPro camera. No fancy music - just airplane noise. The very last roll is almost full rate for the RV-3. All legal cloud clearances were maintained (fisheye lens distorts some distances).

Guadalupe Mountains Canyon Flying Test Video
let me be the first to say
I really enjoyed it. I had to cancel my trip next week because of being called back to work. In three months or so I'll be driving down to the BBNP/BBRSP area. Good video. Thank you.
Good on Ya Paul. Just got an Rv8A. Ex military pilot and have done the acro, but it’s been a few years. Done the rolls, but no loops yet. Walk me thru it, altitude, speed and g’s....
Loops are pretty simple in an -8...I like to see about 145 knots indicated at the start, pull to 2.5 - 3 G’s, and you’ll use 500 vertical feet or so. Probably about 90 knots at the top (I rarely look). Practice at least 3,000 AGL to see how it goes, and don;t relax on the backside - to builds speed REALLY fast if you relax with the nose down.
Just remember Paul. Its cool to have 4 airplanes but that means 4 condition inspections every year. ;)
Congratulations Paul ! ! ! So you now have 4 airplanes to choose from when you want to go fly - How do you decide . . .?
Very Cool! Remember Paul....NO RIGHT Rudder when you takeoff haha!
I am flying to BBRSP soon - how did you know where these landmarks were such as South Shutup
Why does it show a +17' elevation difference at touchdown? Shouldn't that be 0?
+Dennis Gentry The elevation is properly from the runway reference point. the runway could be 17 feet higher at the touchdown zone where he landed, and 30 lower at the other end of the runway.
No shot out the front window at the end? Is it really real or just another sim.
Nice. What FLIR camera did you use?
That is just a superb view. Seems like a tight fit fr the pilot.
Tsamsiyu! :) Amazing, simply amazing.
also cool!
Cool!
Great video! That GRT stuff is awesome! Where's the camera mounted?
Love the Schroth Harnesses! Exact same ones are going in my 8A.
Nice video! The blue sky and white clouds really look nice against the wings!
sweet!
I sure wish I could put one of these in my Archer ! Great video by the way, Thanks for putting this out there.
Cool Video!!!
Great job!!!
In '07 I went on an Alaskan cruise; with various ports of call. One was in Skagway, where I took a Tubine Beaver floatplane ride into the back country to see a waterfall that black bear feed from for Salmon. I'm a licensed pilot w/ instrument. But of course, I couldn't fly this plane as I wasn't approved. So I remember telling the pilot "this synthetic visions stuff is really cool!" He said, "meh - I don't know how to use it ... I'm VFR only". They had a fatal crash a few days later. Hmmm.
Awesome...It's amazing how much safer this makes things...granted we have all the proper training.
makes me want to get my IFR
blue sky at touch down !?!?!
Was your camera on a diet? Nice avionics setup in the RV
Better than your space shuttle :-) Great video!
@zeeksgarage All the manuevers appeared to be positive G's.
You should do radio. Heck of a voice.
I like the highway in the sky
the screen resolution is a lot higher than the prev models the frame update is very smooth
very nice. only question for me, upon viewing this is, I thought with SVT, you also get a "Rwy Depiction" on the PFD. never saw that?? could be a bit confusing in IMC to Minimums, where, if your on Instruments (PFD) and don't actually SEE any "Virtual" Runway stretched out in front of you (again, on PFD) could get squirrely huh?
@turboromy Good question, my Sport model which is a later product, has shown the runway in black in all cases so far. Hey Paul, can you help on this, please.
Works perfect without WAAS
Great video!
good stuff !
Very informative. One question does this require WAAS type GPS resolution or will it work well enough with normal non WAAS resolution. The reason I ask is that WAAS isnt available everywhere, but a GPS signal is.
Thanks! No runway display?
Great video. thanks.
Amazing!!! I'm just curious if it doesn't display runway at the end of highway in the sky.
Yes, it does. You can see it nearly half way between the lower left corner and the center. It only shows up when outside his selected range points. I just got one and that is a nice feature.
doesn't have a g-force meter?
Right rudder.
hahaha
Soooo cool!
if i had...
