    Thanks for the info on the Silicone on cardboard. And useing paper on the walls. I have done a lot of wallpapering on real walls so I can do that with no problem. But never craft paper. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    You could always half lap that bracing if you need to add it on both sides of a stud. With a few extra markings and cuts when making the walls, it could help with forgetting to add them, and the half lap isn't going make anything structurally questionable either. Just a thought.

    That looks great! I suggest a wall with a 'window' into it so you can see the interior of the wall -- your lovely miniature framing, and model the lathe and plaster with coffee-stir-sticks and plaster, add newspaper insulation and an 'easter egg' mouse-nest... :D

    This was fantastic. I really like how you did clear, step by step instructions without skipping any steps. Sometimes people will just say "I then sanded all these pieces" or "Next I painted the outside" without giving any idea of how they went about it, and you have to just guess what the best way to do that is.

    Using a credit or store card to smooth the paper works really well. Also, make a cheap paper pattern first. That way you can make lots of mistakes but not wreck your patterned paper.

    The blocks are great because of the uniform weight. I only bought 2, but am definitely going to order more so that I can do an entire room at a time. Also! I found the kit for this house for $16 on eBay! I may give it a go, though I’ve never made anything other than miniature room kits before. Thank you for the inspiration!

    This is great! I’m glad I found you. 2 questions, since I’m new to this and haven’t had the guts to start renovating my house: have you used 123 Blocks to weigh stuff down? Also, do you find wood glue actually gets brittle when it dries? I haven’t enjoyed working with it so far

    I found that the "iron on" wood veneer strips. Work super in the 12th scale floors. My husband ordered a huge roll of 3/4" strip. Iron it to the poster board pattern, then glue to dollhouse floor. For modern kits with smooth floors, it can be adhered directly to the "subfloor" since it is already a smooth surface.

    After years of building dollhouses, I have found a "dead" credit card is the best glue spreader.

    • @BuildingMiniatures
      @BuildingMiniatures 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, I tested the glue and it worked on a small piece of veneer, but the large piece was a bit to springy. I think I found a work around which I will show you in the next video.

    Stick a peice of tape to the end of the pin, so when it goes flying you can see where it went. You could probably tape all your pins in a row. I keep painting things that yellow, too. :D

  • @gashlycrumb4988
    @gashlycrumb4988 7 місяців тому

    I am really enjoying your videos! Thank you! I love the details, and the the historical information you bring up. I'm curious if you have the instructions for the house that came with the kit? I would have thought the bottom vent would go on the floor. A Victorian we lived in when I was a kid had a big pantry. The cellar stairs were in the back of the pantry and the vent to let cool air into the pantry was on the bottom of the door to the stairwell. The warm-air-out vent was above the window on the other side of the room. We cool the old house I live in now by opening up vents from the crawlspace. Some old houses in hot areas (or new ones made by people wanting energy-efficiency) have a big pipe or small tunnel to bring in air, which is cooled by the time it spends underground on the way into the house.

    • @BuildingMiniatures
      @BuildingMiniatures 7 місяців тому

      Yes I've saw a video where the house had the lower vent in the floor and the upper vent when through the ceiling. I don't have the detailed plans to the house, just a book which shows the floor plans and brief description so I have to make some assumptions. The house I grew up in had a small door on the front porch where the milkman could leave the bottles of milk.

    • @gashlycrumb4988
      @gashlycrumb4988 7 місяців тому

      @@BuildingMiniatures I love those little milk doors. I wonder if they won't make a comeback, what with people putting package-lockers out now, and the troubles of bolting one down. I'm an archivist and while Sears catalogues are a common document, I've never seen the actual plans and instructions for a kit house. It seems like they'd be around, so many towns had a kit-house phase. Perhaps they were destroyed in wrath. ("Assembly of Japanese bicycle require great peace of mind," -- Robert M. Pirsig) It'd be a gem to find a diary from someone who documented building one. BTW, Sears kit house fans, screenname kabrumble on Cults3d has made free-to-download printable models of twenty-something different Sears kit houses in HO scale. Also a library that looks like every neoclassical small-town Carnegie library, though those weren't from kits and probably just all ended up looking the same because of costs and Carnegie's requirements about the windows.

    Some of those wringer washers had a gasoline motor option. Many of them could be rigged to be powered by a farm windmill. One of the most common ones allowed you to remove the wringer and replace it with another attachment -- a meat grinder.
