Step-by-step guide on how to recharge the AC system in your 2016 Chevy Silverado. If you've noticed that your AC isn't blowing as cold as it used to, or if it's not working at all, it's likely that your AC system needs a recharge. Fortunately, this is a relatively simple DIY task that you can complete in just a few hours with the right tools and materials.
Before we get started, here's a list of the tools and materials you'll need for this project:
AC recharge kit (with gauge and hose)
Safety glasses
Gloves
A/C system UV dye
UV light
Rags or towels
Now that you have everything you need, let's get started!
Step 1: Prepare Your Vehicle - 0:40
The first step is to prepare your vehicle for the AC recharge process. Park your Silverado on a flat surface and turn off the engine. Pop open the hood and locate the low-pressure AC service port. It's usually located on the passenger side near the firewall. Remove the cap from the port and set it aside.
Step 2: Attach the Recharge Hose - 2:00
Next, attach the recharge hose to the low-pressure service port. Make sure that the gauge on the hose is in the "off" position before attaching it to the port. Then, attach the other end of the hose to the canister of refrigerant.
Step 3: Add Refrigerant - 3:20
Now it's time to add the refrigerant to your AC system. Start the engine and turn on the AC to the maximum cool setting. Then, open the valve on the recharge hose to release the refrigerant into the system. Keep an eye on the gauge to make sure that you're adding the correct amount of refrigerant. Most AC recharge kits come with instructions on how much refrigerant to add, based on the size of your vehicle's AC system.
Step 4: Check for Leaks
After you've added the refrigerant, it's important to check for leaks in your AC system. This is where the UV dye comes in handy. Add a small amount of the dye to the AC system and run the engine for a few minutes with the AC on. Then, use the UV light to inspect the AC system for any leaks. If you spot a leak, you'll need to fix it before proceeding with the recharge process.
Step 5: Check the AC System Performance - 4:20
Finally, it's time to check the performance of your AC system. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes with the AC on, and then use a thermometer to measure the air temperature coming from the vents. If the air is cold and refreshing, then you've successfully recharged your AC system! If not, you may need to repeat the recharge process or seek professional help to diagnose the issue.

can you show us how you can make this a clean and organize setup in a living room. I don't care for the cables all over the place. Thanks for making this video!
Of course, this was just a quick mockup video. So many people were asking about how it works. The idea setup would be using a wireless audio transmitter. Then you’ll just connect it directly to the source then the receiver to the speakers. Be sure to subscribe! I’ve doing giveaways starting next week.

I have the same set up but mine said that the Roku doesn’t have sufficient power. Low power. Please help
Are you plugging the Roku power usb to the projector itself or the wall? That happen to me when I tried to plug it the projector directly. Otherwise, you might need an update on your Roku.
Is this to any car ?
Yeah, for the most part
@Robert_Cain look like what i need to do in a plymouth voyager. My luck plugging back in the switches it will work fine after spinning the thing haha
Bruh thank you this is what I've been looking for my window is stuck open like 5 inches and it's January I have plastic over it but the window is fine it's the switch I'm going to do this today when I get home
I can not connect to the TOP one with any of the adopters is it different ?
You don’t need too, you’ll not able to charge from that one anyways. They made the adapter to only fit the correct one so people wouldn’t have this issue.
im having issues with mine. i have my projector installed, running an HDMI cable to my box, i have a Firestick on the converter and then the audio RC aux goes out to the receiver thats connected to my 5.1 surround sound. It just wont connect. It was good at first then my firstick had issue and all i did was disconnect the firestick, sent it back and reordered a new one and connected JUST the firestick and now no sound at all.

How do you know when it had enough in it? Or if it needs more then one can? What’s the gage supposed to go up to?
You just need to get the in the green. When you’re running it full blast and it’s reading green, you’re good to go.

why did you not connect audio RCA cables directly to the projector?

How far do you fill it?
Until the gauge shows green while your system is running. Mine only took one can, sometimes you need two.
@@Robert_Cain what brand did you use
How do you get surround from RCA cables?
Great question, technically you can’t as they only carry 2 channel stereo audio. You will need use HDMI or a coaxial cable. In regard to the video, this was just a mock up of how to get audio to an external source.
I can't believe this I literally just got the kit but got 134A 😭😭

Thanks for your help. I just bought a can of the wrong stuff and went to connect and found bubbles when I removed the low side cap.
Bubbles often form when air or moisture is in the refrigerant lines. This could mean the system wasn’t fully evacuated before charging or there’s a leak. I would recommend a fully evacuated and then a make sure you use a refrigerant with sealant.
REALLY THANKS
Your welcome! Be sure to subscribe
Just an fyi, if it starts blowing warm/hot again, check the weld points on the right side of the condenser (if facing the truck). You should be able to see them through the grill, but these trucks are known to fail at one of those points and leak. Ask me how I know.
Darn! Sorry to hear that…
You’d think with this being the most common issue GM would actually govern a shit about their customers and recall it.
I see that your dash says steering wheel reduced. Do you remember why it had that?
Yeah, it was a power steering assist failure. I had to replace my power steering pump. which was FUN to btw. but if you're seeing on yours it could be a simply connections to the power steering system. Things shake loose from time to time, you can just make sure everything is connected before diving into it to deep.
eh... thats not surround sound
@@freewheelburning8834 my apologies, I explained that in the video too. The concept works the same way. I just made a quick mockup video to explain how to get sound to an external source.
Two thumbs down your speakers aren't tactile enough
🤣 I wish I had one!
We need more people like you! They are making newer vehciles harder and harder to DIY🤦♂️
One of me is just the right amount for now-any more, and the world might just overload on awesome!
Don’t know if you are still looking at these, but I’ve set up my stuff similar to you, but I’m unable to get 5.1 sound to work with Disney+, every game and other streaming service does work in 5.1
Ok does the box mesa with the let's say ur projector has 4k her and all the perks..does it lessen the quality of video??
Not at all, it’s 1 to 1 on the outputs. The box just splits into another audio output not video. However there isn’t any audio lag, I’ve updated mine with Bluetooth speakers and works like a champ. I’ll have to make an updated video with the full setup.
You need to find the leak. It is most likely the condenser.
I just used the sealant recharge kit and haven’t had an issue yet.
My 2017 Silverado feels like an oven right now I’m in the Central Valley in California having 107 degree weather with no ac and I keeps getting quotes of $500-$700 to get it fixed. I’m gonna have to get my husband to do this himself because I need cold air!
Remember those days! Hopefully a quick recharge will cool you guys down.
Unless you have a leak.. The Condenser is notorious for leaking in the 2014-2019 Chevrolet trucks and Suburbans.
I guess so, this is a headache for many of us.
Thanks for this video!! I have the same truck and mine just went out. Very helpful and your video was the first to pop up. Thanks for being straight forward and to the point. LFG!
Glad to help brother
I took my sierra in to the dealership because I've been having issues with my transmission temp sensor. I just got a diagnosis (no code was reading). When I finally got my truck back 4 days later, it was about 30° out (celsius), turned my AC on which had been working amazing. Suddenly it's blowing hot air. I refuse to take it back to the dealership. I know an honest mechanic that charges $90CAD/hr (typically $175+) but I just can't justify spending that amount on getting this new issue diagnosed, then fixed. I'm gonna try to recharge it on my own. I thought maybe the dealership saw me as a "dumb girl", trying to get me back in to spend more $, so I figured they just unplugged something. I'll take a look around now that I have a better idea of where my AC is located. I'm hoping it just needs a recharge! Thanks for making this video. I've been searching the last 2 days trying to find any info I can. This video has been helpful!
You’re welcome! I was frustrated as well with just simple recharge being so expensive. Give us an update when you figure it all out. A lot of people use this video to solve other issues. So feel free to share…
The condenser is cracked & leaking, common issue with these trucks.
Hey man great video, I have a question does it support 7.1 surround system ?
This one specifically is the 5.1 but if click the link in the description the suggested product underneath is the 7.1 adapter.
I just replaced the condenser so the system is completely dry, do I need to vacuum the system and such? I know you didn't use one, but in other videos it shows them pulling the pressure out of it with the gauges and such. TRUST me I would rather do it this way, I just don't want to mess anything up! Please anyone let me know is I can simply do it this way or do I need to buy the compressor with the hoses and gauges. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! Have a wonderful day!
Yes, you absolutely want to vacuum the system. 2-3 hours should be fine but I know people that run it over night just to be sure. You just don’t want any moisture or contamination in there. It’s really easy to miss this, 10 months later end up with a crack over corrosion that you left in there.
Thanks for confirming the low port. Why put it in a nice convenient spot like the high pressure one? Is your condenser cracked? Mine is and that's why I'm recharging. Apparently a class action law suit against GM for the issue. If you haven't checked, take a look up at the pinch welds on the condenser - should be able to see through the grill. You can see a spot on mine where there's discoloration from oil leaking. I'm recharging to bandaid this before digging in to the condenser. Thanks for the vid!
I’ve seen some guys fix that with the 1234yf w/sealer. It really just depends on the size of the crack(s).
