I remember working with student civil engineers on motorway construction in the 1960s who were told by contractors to lift surveying pegs up when soil was being removed and bang them down when sub-base was added thereby reducing the aggregate put into foundations. No wonder they all needed reconstruction several years later.

The United States freeway system was build for a different reason, defense. While Eisenhower was just a Captain between the war he took a Army Convoy part way across the US and discovered moving men and equipment would be difficult in a time of war. When he became President he pushed for the interstates to be built. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Highway_System It is possible to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean on one of the interstate freeway without ever seeing a stop sign or a red light (except on police car if you go too fast), or from the Mexico border to the Canadian border. East West numbers are even, and North South numbers are odd. It can take 3 - 5 days to drive across the United States.

Initially they built it elevated and overground, but some of the places said, they should bury these plans. Instead this, they burried the tracks. Today's underground line 2 is the best example. Pankow said "we cannot stand to see elevated trains", so the station Vinetastrasse is like Vineta deep down. Prenzlauer Berg has no problem, Kreuzberg the same, they are called by mountains. Mitte required not to look like Chicago Downtown, so subway. Charlottenburg prefered to hide the trains, Spandau hasn't any problem with overground.

How did they build a motorway compare to a railway, well they destroyed more land and trees to this white elephant and everyone goes on about climate change.

I worked for a major US entertainment client who was looking for building/offices in UK. I performed due diligence study of several sites. When we visited future site of Canary Warf Business Center BEFORE 1 Canada Square Existed in late 1980's with Olympia & York. There were MANY low income Families who lived there. When I asked how they intended to relocate everyone fairly... my ? "Sadly" went ignored.

During the late 60s/early 70's, the pitch was moved significantly to the North, in order to accommodate the larger stand that replaced The Scratching shed... The Kop was rebuilt first, 60 feet behind the original terrace, and then the pitch was shifted Northwards.

They really don’t explain how it was built. Most old world buildings had a competition behind it. A lot of fluff in the story and stats but who actually built it? How many men? What tools? Horse and buggy? Where did all the material come from? How did they transport it? When did construction start/end? Bunch of nonsense in this video. Pay attention!
