Really nice match! Thanks for uploading, i look foward to more Black Sea in the future!
(YT algorithm booster comment) Unfortunate loss on that Bradley. Thanks for the video.
Appreciate the boost!
Im glad to see people like you uploading content on these games, and recently at that! I just picked up CMBS a month ago, and havent played a CM title since Combat Mission Africa Korps
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment! I have some more stuff in the works, but real life is keeping me incredibly busy lately. Hopefully new content soon.
I feel your pain. IIRC, I played this one twice against the AI, lost twice and decided to move on. I couldn't imagine playing this one as the US against a human.
Yeah - that is a really tough scenario for the US.
Well done. Good story telling as well. Definitely enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the comment!
Refused the cease-fire to show us some more artillery falling, GOOD SHOW!
I appreciate a good artillery barrage lol
DONUT"S OR "CIRCLE"-WORK DOWNUNDER!
I don’t follow the reference lol
The presentation really good. This sets a new sort of standard for Combat Mission AAR's (in my opinion). A few things I really enjoyed were the pre-game gentlement agreements (no tanks or early pre-planned artillery) which is frankly realistic. Strategic and operational factors mean sometimes you don't get the perfect opening or support - just like in real life so we got to see a more "realistic" meeting engagement. Additionally, the picture-in-picture highlights of certains actions which are color-coded by the outline of the box is just amazing. I get both a high-level interpretation of the battle AND detailed focus on specific actions at the same time. The only possible suggestion I could think of, is perhaps when you have multiple boxes on screen simultaneously - perhaps draw a line from the box to the unit behing examined in the close-up view (for example @ 13:07). It could be the case that the screen looks too 'busy' with these lines, I'm not sure if my suggestion would actually pan out well. In summary, awesome job on the presentation and you have more than earned my subscription!
Thank you for the comment, and Im glad that you enjoyed the video so much. I think if done correctly, the lines could help, however the software that I am using wouldn't let me do that without substantial difficulty, so that isn't really an option at this point. If I ever upgrade to professional grade software, I can try that addition. Some more videos are in the pipeline. I hope to get them out soon.
That flanking by the lone Bradley was textbook
It was my favorite move of the game!
This game is realistic right? I didn't know the Brad had a APS System, so confused lol
Rather than realistic, I would describe CM as realist-ish. In the particular case of the Bradley’s APS, I think it is important to remember that CMBS was released in 2014 with equipment that would hypothetically be available in 2017. I don’t know if that was a good assumption in 2014, but it does look like the US military did some testing of an APS system on Bradleys in 2018 and deemed it unsatisfactory. I know a lot of people care a lot about the realism of CM, which is understandable. I’m not one of those people. I just think it is a great game. Anyway, thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed it!
someone get the jevelins a doctor they are siiiiiiiiiick
It’s wild. I’ve seen APS stop javelins. I’ve seen those over protective trees stop javelins. I’ve even seen javelins just miss (when the target is at a higher elevation). I’ve never seen a vehicle take a javelin hit and just keep going. And it happened 4 times in this game.
brad too angry to die
Looks like a pretty good battle! Me and a friend both have Fortress Italy, it's really cool to see the differences between the technologies and how that affects playstyle/doctrine. How do you do your 1 v 1's? We can never get them to work when we try IP connections :/
I do 90% of my 1 v 1's over PBEM and exchanging files via a shared dropbox folder. I do play some over TCPIP connections, and I had to go into my router and open a port. But after I did that, it works fine. And thanks for the comment. Also, about to start my first CMFI Quickbattle, and I plan to release that as a Video AAR. Im sure it will be a few months before I release it, since I have a few other videos in the queue before that one.
@@chapsgames Right on and thanks for the heads up! I look forward to it
I've never even heard of this game before: a surprising fact considering I do enjoy similar titles. Suffice to say, my PS2 games looked better than this game, but it's honestly really intriguing. Also, your production quality is excellent, really fun to watch!
Totally agree about the graphics. But it is the best tactical level war game I have ever played, which is more important to me than the graphics. Anyway thank you for the comment. And if you have never heard of Combat Mission before, you should look up Usually Hapless and ua-cam.com/users/FreeWhisky YT channels. They make great videos that show off the game.
really solid AAR - great production quality here Chaps.
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the comment!!
Good game!
Great Video
Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the comment
Yay!
Been a while!
I've rewatched this series 9 times :D cant wait for another
Wow! Thanks for the comment, and glad to hear you enjoy it that much! I have a few projects in the works.
Yeah definitely, there isn’t enough good combat mission content :D and you’re great. Keep it up
Well casted, given your little experience with the game! I definitely like listening to your voice and would love it if you'd delve some more into possible strategies and plans and such for you to discuss during the cast :)
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed it. Im still just so new it is mostly overwhelming. And getting the positive feedback motivates me to do more videos!
Good to see you and Requin give US v US a go, and I'm sure many players will be looking at this to improve their own game. Well done on the win, the vids and this AAR.
great game thank you
Hey Chap! if you're still looking for a blue player, id be more than happy to go up against you again!
Let's do it! At least this time you won't be able to use those damn shilkas against me!!
If you don't mind stomping someone who hasn't played h2h before and who has no intentions of making videos, I'd be up for it. But I'll gladly stay in the backseat if someone else offers themselves :)
Sounds good. Let's see if anybody else has a burning desire (and will make a video). But if not, we can give it a go. It will be a few weeks before I can get started on it anyway.
So I got another player that I have played multi games against as an opponent. But ... I don't mind playing two games. So if you want one we can set it up
@@chapsgames Na that's fine, I'm quite happy to sit it out. Recently got CMCW and haven't played the campaigns yet :D
Thanks for the game! I'm glad you went full min max, as it was a great learning experience as far as force selection goes. I'm keen to keep developing the MP side of my game and I'll have to come back for a rematch at some point :-).
Just let me know! I always want to see videos from both sides!
One day, I’ll be brave enough to get trashed in an MP battle. But it is not this day!
Same ahahahah
Cool stuff! Two different approaches to the battle and content creation.
Glad you enjoyed it! I will be making more
All good things come to an end.
Sadly. But there will be more.
Great job, Chap - both on the solid plan and outcome, and on the presentation. You keep these Turn-by-turns short, punchy, and the PIP keeps the viewer grounded on what is happening where. Love it, and may steal this approach for my content ;)
Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear you enjoyed it. Im going to try to get a Operation Konrad video up soon.
Enjoyed the daily progress. Thanks for the running post.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment!
Really great series and wonderfully edited... thanks for your time and efforts
Glad you hear you enjoyed it!
Great series, seen every one. Look forward to the next duel on this channel
Thanks for the comments and glad you enjoyed it!
Ouch. That one did hurt but I didn't think his force was that small!
Yeah those cav scout formations (I think that is what he had), lack the staying power of regular US rifle platoons
The trees will forever haunt my nightmares.
No doubt. So hard to get a javelin launch against a Bradley, and then a tree blocks it. crazy
Are you going to do a video with Requin once the battle is over?
I haven't considered that yet - but that I will see if I can work it out with him. I assume you mean a post-game discussion?
Yeah. That would be awesome
I think it's clear who is winning at this point with a majority of the objectives under your control.
I definitely thought I have an unstoppable position at this point.
@@chapsgames Uh oh. That's past tense.
@@theofficerfactory2625 - no spoilers lol
Javelin teams are showing no mercy.
Dancing with Javelins is a dangerous two-step
one and a half turns left, maybe shoulda pushed earlier?
"one and a half turns left"? I have 8 mins left.
@@chapsgames I am so stupid, i dont know why but my mind has 1 turn = 5 minutes for some reason. Yeah you're right, still got 8 turns left.
The spotting mechanisms in CM can be frustrating... I tend to consider that they not only take account of the physical aspects of spotting (line of site, concealment / visibility of the target, equipment available, spotting abilities of the unit (eg lots of ports or limited views), but also the psychological aspects of spotting: being in the front line, potentially being shot at (obviously suppression plays a part here), the confusion of war, loud sounds coming from elsewhere that distract attention, being thrown around the inside of a can as it moves, being shouted out by the CO, asking if you are sure, hesitancy in calling something that might not be there etc. ... makes me feel a bit better anyway when my units fail to spot the tank in the next field !
I completely agree. From the gods-eye-view, it is incredibly easy to be frustrated. But the variable nature of CM spotting is one of the things that makes CM such a great game in my opinion. So I feel entitled to complain at least once a game about my units blindness, even if it isnt completely justified. 😂
Spotting depends on a few factors. (Black Sea) Infantry still take between 2-3 turns to spot hidden or non-moving infantry or other concealed targets. Tanks or IFV with Thermal sights will take usually depending on crew experience 1 minute or less. If there is a drone in the sky relaying intel, then all HQ will have the same intel to relay that to their dependents. The WWII games infantry can take up to 3-4 minutes to spot if they have Binoculars, tanks and IFV are even worse. So, it's a lot different, Cold War is somewhere in-between depending on the Tech and experience. GhostRider3/3 from the forums.
When weird shit happens in CM, I always say to myself, it must be an abstraction in the game that led to it. It might not be true, but it at least helps me cope :D
Coping while playing CM is an important skill 😂
When weird shit happens in CM, I always say to myself, it must be an abstraction in the game that led to it. It might not be true, but it at least helps me cope :D
Looks like Requin87 is pretty well boxed in... dangerous still but contained.
I agree!
Well that was what, $93,640 to take down just one tree and another $93,640 on an other tree. The worlds most expensive lumberjack service but highly accurate one at that.
Tree armor. The best protection in CM.
@@chapsgames reminds me of WH3 Total War, multi projectile magic missile with the power to instantly kill a Troll? Some slightly thick twig blocks it and is completely unharmed.
@@chrisyotas5854 I do love WH Total War. But im so bad at that game!
I am a few days behind.
Thank you so much for this series, please keep it up! We need more good Combat mission content out there. Fantastic episode
Thanks for the comment! Sometimes I am making these videos and wonder if people enjoy them very much. lol But I love making them and watching the game from both sides, and yet it is nice to get some confirmation and encouragement for more.
@@chapsgamesI really enjoy these videos. Please keep making them.
@@markchorlton60 Thanks for the comment and Im glad to hear you enjoy them!
Hard to say who is winning but you have the better position and freedom of movement.
Agreed! Although I do feel like by owning those middle trees I've secured a position that will unlock the middle objectives,.
Artillery (and mortars) are ridiculously undermodeled vs vehicles in CM from everything I can gather. Really one of the more annoying sides of the game in my mind, as indirect fires are really no biggie vs armor.
I agree that artillery against vehicles in CM is not an optimal choice, but I didnt see any other good infantry targets. And artillery will immobilize and clean up foliage, which could make it easier to get a javelin kill.
4:24 editing is nice either way, I would say I lean a little more to the quicker cuts, but both are splendid!
I lean more towards the quicker cuts as well, but i also do occasionally like the longer orders explanations. And thanks for the comment!
Really interesting how this turned out, Red teams snipers arent taking a lot of shots but gater major info. The major point is pretty much a loss or a meatgrinder, it all hinges on the hill flank and arty surprise
Yeah Requin killing my two Bradleys really tightens this up!
That sniper shot on the right was beautiful. Came out of nowhere on Requin's POV lol
Yeah - I do love having some snipers in action!
