Ernie Teaches Tennis
Приєднався 25 січ 2021
Hi, my name is Ernie!
I’m a professional tennis coach at the Cheviot Hills Tennis Center in Los Angeles.
I discovered tennis later than most…Growing up, baseball was always my favorite sport. Up until ten-years-old, I was always a great middle-of-the order hitter and left fielder on my travel baseball teams, but once I started getting hit by pitches I decided I'd rather just play other sports.
Really on accident, I ended up trying out for the school tennis team when I moved to Santa Clarita in 10th grade. As fate would have it, by my senior year, I became varsity #1 doubles and #2 singles, and have coached across the best facilities in LA since.
I am PTR certified, and a blessing of my late introduction to tennis is , I know what parts of improvement to value, and what is overly esoteric technique jargon.
A blend of hitting, strategy tips, racket reviews, and whatever seems like a good idea. My current playing level is around 5.0 NTRP / 9 UTR
Thanks 🔥🎾

A Simple Drill to MASTER your Groundstrokes
Using the throat of the racket is a quick hack to illustrate the correct swing path to beginners. The precise, angular swing that produces shape and velocity can be hard for non-tennis players to wrap their head around.
Rather than a backward to forward motion with the arm, a player must master the twist of the wrist. This drill helps beginners clearly understand the swing path angle. Use it next time you are on the court and watch your topspin, directional control and velocity improve. If you hit semi-western, this will really help a ton.

Building an Offensive Identity
Переглядів 515Рік тому
Surprisingly, as a coach I don't get a chance to play many sets. Most of my job is feeding, hitting neutral balls for my players to tee off on. Recently I have committed to playing more matches. Here are my thoughts on crafting an offensive identity when playing singles, and how I am making adjustments to my strategy based on my strengths and weaknesses.
The NEW BABOLAT PURE AERO 98 Review: An Offensive FIRECRACKER
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
Today we look at the Babolat Pure Aero 98, the stick of choice for phenom Carlos Alcaraz. I am deciding between this and the Dunlop SX 300, I really enjoy both rackets, with the Babolat being slightly better for quick strike, offensive tennis. This racket is killer on serve, overheads, volleys and forehands, and doesn't disappoint on the backhands either. I had mine strung with RPM blast at 52 ...
The Head Gravity S Model: A PERFECT Racket for Beginners, Female Players and COACHES TOO
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
While most players are searching for the right racket for competition, my job as an instructor is also identifying which stick offers the best response for beginners and those looking to get more involved with tennis. Usually beginners rackets are very different from the frames that end up being used for high level competition. I have to say that the "S" is a great middle ground. It is light, h...
The DUNLOP SX 300 Racket: This Stick is AMAZING!!!
Переглядів 6 тис.Рік тому
I have always been a huge fan of Dunlop tennis rackets. After growing up on the M Fils and tinkering with the CX and FX lines for a while, Dunlop has reintroduced a racket that sits alone at the top of the food chain with the SX 300 tennis racket. What a joy it is to play with this thing, great access to spin, power, wristiness. The perfect amount of stiffness and feel, this 16x19, 11.4 oz rack...
The Babolat Pure Strike Review: 16 x 19 3rd Gen
Переглядів 2,9 тис.2 роки тому
I'm always looking to level up, so I demoed one of the most popular rackets out there - the Babolat Pure Strike. This 16 x 19 string bed is silky smooth: the only issue is the racket is so stiff I felt it was borderline unplayable for longer than 2 hours at a time a few times a week. When you are dialed in with this thing, watch out: just make sure to take an Advil after. Overall, I wouldn't re...

PERFECT Forehand Spin With This One Warm Up
❤️❤️ First of all, I must say that yesterday was one of the happiest days of my 15-month tennis life, because I analyzed the video you posted. Even though I have watched similar videos before, I understood much better that the trajectory of the handle of the racket in forehand and backhand strokes is so important, thanks to your sharing. I can't wait to implement this. I didn't think that centrifugal force would have such an impact on the speed of hitting the ball. I was aware that my previous strokes were inadequate and the wrong stroke technique was also causing arm pain. But thanks to you, tennis will become more playable. We are grateful to you for contributing to us, best regards. ❤️❤️
Thanks so much for the feedback. Please keep me posted I would love for updates on how the tennis elbow progresses 🙏
Great tips! Would love to see more groundstroke tutorials, (forehand, OHBH,2HBH and the serve!) (Breaking down the forehand take back, kinetic chain, etc.)
Thank you! I will definitely be getting to that, lots of backhand stuff. Thanks for the feedback and support
Guy on the left hits the ball super fluid. Very relaxed swing.
Thank you! Near court is me, far court is Max, he trained at Saddlebrook around an 11 UTR
Great tip that I have never heard before. I am interested in what you have to say next. Count me in as a subscriber.
Glad you enjoyed this one! Let me know what aspects of the game you’d like covered 🔥🎾
lol alcaraz has it with 55 lbs so idk what you're on about
is the new head gravity team the same as this previous head gravity s model?
Your blowing people off? Hard pause
whats going on with the lefty player? very weird hitting motion he has.............also out of curiosity which one is the coach mentioned during the video?
Great question. He has an issue taking the ball early and so it leads to a lack of follow through etc. I actually suggested he switch to being a right handed player because I think he’s got an issue tracking the ball from his right eye to the left hand, I think he’s left eye dominant which would be better if he was righty. His backhand is very consistent too which is why I believe he’d have more success as a right handed player
I’ve been trialling the 18x20 and really quite love it although it’s a little less spin friendly than my regular racquet (Speed Pro) but it feels so clean hitting and really nice in the hands especially on my one hand backhand…I want to try the 16x19 but previously never really liked anything in that pattern
Blade 98 v8 ? Or babolat pure aero 98? For the agresive player baseliner? Thanks!!!
I would definitely recommend the Pure Aero 98 over the Blade. It just has more pop and explosiveness. The blade has good control but doesn’t in my opinion have any remarkable strengths and is a bit stiff.
It's taken me 20+ hours to get used to it... now I would not swap it out for anything! I found allupower rg & 48lb is awesome
Nice review. The guy in grey shirt with Puredirve, he is one of the kind!
He is like the Baryshnikov of 3.5.
Did you put a leather grip on it? Or add any weight?
No just used stock specs! I have an over grip but that’s it
I don’t know how you can say 52 lbs is too tight. I’ve tried it with pen blast 1.30 at 55lbs and still think it’s too powerful
Which stupid has such ideas.....to tarnish and character assassinate....
Which strings did you use for this video?
Rpm mains, vs in the cross , 49 pounds but I think it plays better at 45-47
Had never seen anyone before who takes the racket up to trophy and then tosses the ball. We're all different, eh?
Yeah I have had a shoulder impingement and some neck issues for a long time.
Your tecnique so horrible
Thank you!
Charming Backhanded comment. HA
I use VS natural gut at 15L in the mains of my PD+ with Lux alu power in the crosses and it lasts a long time, well worth it!
I happen to love it :))
Get rid of that painting or sit somewhere else
First interior design tips on the channel! 😂
There’s always one 🙄
Using gut on any racket will protect your arm
Love gut! It just breaks too quickly and gets expensive after a few restrings lol. Can’t afford it now but when I’m only playing tourneys will switch. Thanks for the rec
@@Ernies_tenniscoaching multifeel , velocity or reflex cream, swift, msv +38..... all soft strings that have spin n control
@@mteca5093 which would you start with?
@@Ernies_tenniscoaching msv +38 as mains and multifeel black or isospeed cream as cross
@@Ernies_tenniscoaching or tecnifibre hdmx as another main
Do you like this racquet better than the SX 300 Tour?
I’ve never tried the tour! My arms are dead because I’ve spent so much time on court coaching. I won’t play with anything over 11.6 ounces so I stay away from the tour models. When I leave instructing and start playing competitively, which is definitely on my to-do list, I’ll start using and reviewing heavier rackets.
I absolutely agree. It is not an easy rocket. I also had wrist and shoulder pains. I have to sell it.
Goatovic
I have tried different rackets in the spin-line incl. Vcore 98, Pure Aero etc. I return every time to the SX 300. It is more soft, better kontrol and have a lot of power and spin. It is really good on the serve and on the groundstrokes. Swings very easy and is very stable also for one-hander backhand. You get so much more for the money
I agree I love this racket
I use pure aero 100 and i like it because it is very ez (feels light on head) to swing. I tried head extreme mp but it was very heavy for me. I dont know why. Same weight , similar or same balance point. How about sx300?? Specwise 300 tour is easier to swing than sx300?? Thanks
I picked up two of the SX 300 and sold my Yonex ezones. Absolutely love the Dunlop for all aspects on the court. Strung at 51 with Technifibre Razor Soft 17.
🇬🇧
try prince rackets please
Have you tried new updated fx500
Yes! I like the FX 500 a lot, I don’t think it’s as responsive of a racket as the SX though. The SX is softer feeling and balanced better.
Insightful review, many thanks! I play with Pure Strike Tour, but enjoyed the perspective on regular Pure Stirke. Pure Strike Tour is more arm-friendly with less vibrations, so if you can handle the 320g weight and 335-ish swingweight, by all means, give it a shot.
Hi man, awesome review, it is exactly what I have been telling my wife since I started playing with it a couple of months ago, this frame compliments my game, I like to play with control racquets, I come from the Vcore Pro 97 HD, awesome frame but lacks spin, I tried going back to poly strings with it and at the 4 hours mark I started to feel TE serious symptoms, I went back to syn gut but the spin went away again. I had a PO7 in my closet and deciden to try it again, syn gut string job and off we go, excellent frame, does everything well, I decided to buy the 3rd Gen and it is a seamless switch between those two but my arm started to show some discomfort, I didn't want to give up so soon so I kept trying different set ups with different tensions, I landed on Dynawire syn gut at 48 pounds and switched the original grip for a padded one from Decathlon, I've played around of 10 hours with this set up and I haven't felt any sign of discomfort or TE, I'm very happy as this frame is perfect for me.
Wow you really love the racket to make that many mods! I feel you, it has so much upside it’s worth a deeper dig. I am using a Head Gravity S right now for coaching , just need a light racket at this point. And that’s interesting that even with a good swing and game for the racket it still has those issues. Babolat needs to be more on top of that as I feel the pure drive and pure strike are the two most complained about rackets in terms of injuries. Let me know if that new set up keeps working for you
Thank God!! A review speaking out honestly and in simple language the pros and the cons!! Lucky me i chose the FX 500 Tour this Black Friday i guess!
I appreciate your feedback. You’ll really like the FX 500. The spin that racket generates is excellent and it’s a very comfortable frame. Enjoy
Rafa exposed rogers backhand weakness Novak exposed rogers weak mentality. GOATS !!! 👍
Well put! Djokovic is the mental giant
Lol😂 Novak exposes nothing and as for the rafa exposing Roger backhand, it was already there, it was just his game better suited with Federer but Federer did improve it. Same as Novak game suited more to Nadal than Federer. PS: Novak isn't the goat 😂
@@Ernies_tenniscoachinghe didn't say anything about him mentally strong 😂 we have seen tennis to know the truth

What tension do you use?
50 pounds! 48 is probably the perfect tension with the Pro model
