Painkiller and Jugulator: The two heaviest records of Priest's career!

My interpretation of the lyrics: The Hangmen mentioned in the first verse are some kind of oppressive force. The lyrics seems to alternate from their point of view, and The One who opposes them. The song indicates that there is some kind of ancient Temple, whether this is literal or just a figurative representation of The One's mind, is up for interpretation. Regardless, the Temple seems to confer some kind of power or will to The One to allow him to fight The Hangmen, thus becoming "The savior of the universe."
