A day hike in the Peak District National Park, October 2024. Shockingly, it wasn't raining, and the wind speed wasn't gale force 😱 I took the train to Glossop, Derbyshire, and walked up from the station into the hills. The two summits on my route were the remaining Nuttalls in the Peak District, that I hadn't already done (there are only 3 Nuttall summits in the Peak District). Between the 2 su...

Nicely done May - I just walked part of that section the other week. Good to see the colours were out - it's a great time of year to walk the valley. I gotta say it looked as if you were ambling along. Well, all the best for the week ahead. Mark
@@WyeExplorer Yeah, nice to see the autumn colours. Although, I thought there'd be a few more viewpoints across the valley. Are the views better on the other side of the river, or is it similar?
@@MaylesTrails Good to hear of the colours - Devil's Pulpit is good. Re - the other side there are better views - more impressive. You're on the Wye Valley Walk there. I have videos of that trail and section on my channel if you are interested. Have a great day.

Lovely day for a hike. Interesting to see that old plane crash there.
@@waterfallmadman Absolutely! It's amazing how much of the wreckage is still there
Hey there! Great videos. I am planning an even more mega walk ;) (14+ days) in the region next summer/fall. I would be interested in your route as an inspiration.
@@florianhiking4817 Thanks! I hope you get better weather than I did 😅 My route changed several times, due to the weather conditions (I didn't originally plan on staying in any of the bothies). So my biggest bit of advice would be to have a back up plan, in case of bad weather. The first 3 days were identical to my planned route, after that it changed quite a lot. I'll try now to post links to gpx files of my route...
I've added the gpx links of the route to the description, on this video. Feel free to let me know if you need more information
@@MaylesTrails thanks for the gps tracks and thanks for the advice. my idea was to plan rather roughly with a few sights that we definitely want to see and the occasional visit to places with showers and food. everything else spontaneously depending on our mood and the weather.
@@florianhiking4817 Sounds like a good plan. I had my route (original and amended) pass through Braemar twice to allow me to resupply on food. Saved me carrying any more than 4 days of food at a time
8000 feet of ascent in one day? I don’t know how you did that. Crazy. But going downhill on this day must’ve been nice. Too bad about Not seeing the lizards though.
@@waterfallmadman Yeah, it was a lot, but completely worth it. The downhill was much easier, until the last 3500 feet, which was steep!
Great video dude. Looking forward to part 3. Im starting this route myself on friday, hoping to get to Tunte in 1 Day 😬 we'll see how that goes haha
@@andytucker386 Thanks. It was a great trip. I'm sure you'll enjoy the trail too. I didn't set out from Maspalomas until just before Noon. So, as long as you're used to hiking that mileage, you should have plenty of time to get to Tunte on Day 1. Let me know if you need any more info, or have any questions about the trail or logistics
Too bad the water tap wasn’t working. Tough climb there, but really fabulous views.
@@waterfallmadman There were a couple more of those taps along the trail. All dried up this time of year though. The views were definitely worth the climb, especially through the rock arch!
What a lovely episode man, this looks and feels great!
@@ervinslens Thank you, much appreciated!
Looks very interesting terrain. also looks very hot and dry. Hope you got some giant lizards on camera. 😁
@@waterfallmadman Yeah, especially the south of the island, is very arid, similar to Arizona. Day 2 and 3, at the higher elevations, had a good covering of pine trees. Sadly, the giant lizards all seemed to be hiding from me 🦎
The first shot was so beautiful, wow what a view!! Gran Canaria’s landscapes are absolutely stunning, and it’s grreat how much you’ve covered in just three days. The GR-131 trail looks like such a rewarding challenge, and it’s amazing to see the variety of terrain you encountered along the way. Very nice video. I would love to go someday 😍

@@Trylobyte Completely agree, right in the middle of all of the 3000 footers
Not perfect views, but it wasn’t all clouded in. So pretty nice. The goats were interesting to see. Is that what they were?

@@MaylesTrails A pleasure there bro. Yeah, the last time I was in Scotland it blew a hooley as it happens. Have a great day.
Thanks for the video, I’m looking to plan a 5-day trip next spring, Ballater to Aviemore via Lochnagar and Glenshee then up through the main massif! Glad to see I’m not the first to think about this route! Atb
@@keirenoutdoors Nice! Hopefully, you have better weather than I did 😅 Let me know if you have any questions about my route etc
@@MaylesTrails I’m looking at May so could be anything! Any camping spots you recommend?
@@keirenoutdoors So, my original plan was mostly summit camps.... But the strong winds ruined that. I camped at Loch Etchachan on the first night, and I'd definitely camp there again. Not sure if that's on your route though? The second night, just to get out of the wind, I camped next to Bob Scott's bothy, which was fine. From that point onwards, I mostly made use of the bothies. My last night I camped just above the junction of the Lairig Ghru and the path up Braeriach. Again, it was a decent spot. If you get good weather and the snow has cleared, I'd highly recommend camping near the summit of Braeriach. I did this on a previous trip and it was a fantastic spot to wake up in the morning.
@@MaylesTrails That’s amazing. Hopefully looking something like this: Day 1 Ballater to Loch Callater (via Lochnagar) Day 2: Loch Callater to Altnour Lodge (via Glenshee) Day 3: Altnour Lodge to Corrour Bothy Day 4: Corrour Bothy to Loch Etchachan Day 5: Loch Etchachan to Aviemore (via Loch Morlich)
@@keirenoutdoors Looks like a good route. I'm not sure on the terrain etc in the Glenshee area, as I only went as far as Cairn of Claise in that direction. The rest I can vouch for. You might need an alternative plan, in case of a lot of snow, at that time of year. But, assuming not too much snow, the stretch from Corrour bothy to Loch Etchachan is fantastic.
Great video and moody conditions 👍🙂
Thanks! Yeah, a little too moody for my liking though 😅
@@MaylesTrails He he.👍

Your video really captures the beauty and intensity of the trip. Thanks for sharing - definitely makes me want to tackle the Cairngorms someday! Cheers, Simon - Tales From Abroad
@@TalesFromAbroad-SJ Thanks Simon, I appreciate that! The Cairngorms are a great place to hike
Hey! Just wanted to say that I enjoyed this three parter, so thanks for making the effort to edit and post! With only 2 Munro's left to complete, I did particularly enjoy the Cairngorms and climbing the hills there. The sense of space is pretty amazing and it was nice to relive the hills through your videos. Distances are always large there, but that didn't seem to put you off at all! As I've seen you've done some American hiking too - it's on my wish list, but I've never hiked there - how did this trip compare to your experiences across the pond in terms of landscape and access? All the best.
@@tomcuthbert7047 Thanks you! Yeah, the Cairngorms is so vast compared to most places in the UK. Great job on almost completing the Munros 👏 Which 2 do you have left? It's definitely different hiking in the US. As good as the scenery can be in the UK, there is just more of a "wow" factor in places like the Sierra Nevada, Southern Utah, Grand Canyon etc. The trail network in US National Parks and designated wilderness areas is extremely well maintained. Most places you don't even really need a map, due to obvious trails and sometimes signposts. If wanting to wild camp, there are a lot more rules and regulations, and you need permits in a lot of places (permits sell out quickly, 6 months in advance, in some places). The other main difference is that there is often wildlife that you have to consider for things like food storage (e.g. bear cannisters). Feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions about hiking in the US.
It’s 1 left now - Seana Bhraigh in the Fannichs. Got the other one done yesterday! Yes, hiking in the US is on the list. I’ve no specific plans, but the JMT and the CT appeal. During the Covid lockdown I discovered Backpacker Radio podcast (have you heard of it?) and this has given me an itch. I’m interested in the logistics of it all - do you have friends out there to help organise things? I’m not that good at UA-cam, but if you’re willing, it would be nice to pick your brain via email.
@@tomcuthbert7047 Seana Bhraigh looks like a great Munro to finish on! Congratulations in advance 👏 The JMT looks incredible, as does the CT. I have friends who have done the JMT (and PCT). The biggest thing to know with the JMT is that permits are limited, and they go quickly, months in advance. But if you started in September, you would have a better chance of securing a permit than in July or August. I'm not sure on the permit process for the CT. I lived in California for a while, which is why I've hiked there a lot. Logistics would certainly be more difficult, if flying out from the UK specifically to hike. I've heard of Backpacker Radio, but not listened to it.
Ah yes, I can see how having a base can be an advantage (and bolt hole). I’ll have to get my head round the idea of pemits and rules and regulations. I gather this does not detract too much from the experience. Your videos certainly show some of the grandeur of the place, and that is what inspires. I’m looking forward to getting the final one. Need a good day and this one is quite remote and even an approach from the north taking the car in some distance is going to be a long day.
@@tomcuthbert7047 No, the rules and regulations certainly don't detract from the experience. If anything, the limit on the number of people that can get a permit on any one day enhances the experience. As long as you plan in advance, it pretty straightforward to navigate the permit process
That was really good. Been looking for a route about that length, that area. We’ve got the maps, weren’t cheap! Wanted to ask though. Did you also use an app for navigation, allTrails, something like that? Thanks. D&L
@@ontheadventuretrails-scotl9389 Thanks! It was a great trip. Jotunheimen is very impressive. I used the Gaia GPS app, which I'd highly recommend. The trails in Jotunheimen are really well marked too. The red Ts on the rocks, that you see in the video, are quite frequent.
You had some weather there, fog, rain, wind. Crazy. Good trekking. I was wondering the same thing as you, about that adder sign. Lol.
@@waterfallmadman Yeah, four seasons in a week 😅
