    I have a ponytail of my moms hair and i have 2 porcelain dolls that were also hers. The ponytail is probably from 6 or 8 years ago and Mom died 4 years ago. I wanted to donate the hair for a wig for someone who has lost their hair but although the ponytail is about 5 inches long its apparently not long enough. Those places are pretty particular lol. So I'm going to try making a new do for the doll! Best part is since its human hair i can pretty easily change up the style! Thanks for explaining so clearly ❤

    And how does one go about getting mohair? Do you use mohair yarn? Mohair doll locks? How do i know what to purchase?

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt 14 днів тому

      I often get mohair on a weft, it can be found in doll supply stores or Etsy. You can also get it on the pelt if it's easier, also from Etsy.

  • @satanicsammi
    @satanicsammi 26 днів тому

    How much mohair do you estimate is needed for one 1/6 wig? For example if i’m buying a 80cm piece that’s roughly 40g, how many would i need?

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt 14 днів тому

      I'm sorry, as I usually get my mohair in bulk, I don't tend to measure, so I'm really not sure. When you say an 80cm piece, do you mean yarn? I usually will get wefts, but there are also pelt pieces available, and either should be enough for a 1/6 scale wig.

    What brand resin do you use? Have you had any trouble with the resin yellowing over time?

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt Місяць тому

      I use a generic brand from eBay. I show the bottle in my latest video. I haven't had trouble with any yellowing. If it's cured properly, it holds up really well. Clear nail polish has the worst problem with yellowing, which is why I use UV Resin. I hope that helps!

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt Місяць тому

      With polymer clay sculptures, you leave the aluminium foil in the head. It supports the sculpture and ensures the clay bakes and cures properly. Thank you so much for your compliments!

    Can we bake it with doll face...

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt Місяць тому

      I find that if properly cured, the resin eyes can be baked with a polymer clay sculpture. Polymer clay cures at relatively low temperatures that don't tend to affect the resin. Of course, I wouldn't put a large amount of resin in the oven as it may smell, but such a small layer, like what is on the eyes, is not problematic. However, always read the safety instructions of the resin you're using and do tests, as results can vary with brands.

    whenever i try to stretch the fingers, the clay always breaks off. how to prevent this?

    • @AmandaParkinsonArt
      @AmandaParkinsonArt Місяць тому

      The clay may require more kneading. If you knead the clay well, the clay becomes very soft and malleable. Also, make sure you dull the cut marks between each finger before stretching, as there can be a weak spot. Apart from that, it just requires a very gentle and slow touch. Keep practising; it is a bit fiddly.

    I've never seen the process of cleaning a porcelain casting with brushes before. Very interesting! Thank you for sharing. Your sculpture is lovely, and I'm sure any porcelain doll collector would love to add your work to their collection. You may want to try using modeling clay for your mold making. You can have a color contrast with your Sculpey to make cleaning up the master easier once you've made the mold, and the modeling clay is generally cheap and reusable for years. I've used it many times for making molds and dams.
