King Diamond - Shapes of Black Bass Cover
From King Diamond's twelfth studio album called "Give me your Soul Please," Here is "Shapes of Black." I know some might not be able to get into King's voice so I love to recommend this song since it shows a different side of his vocals and really is a great song with Hal Patino on bass. They played this live as part of a medley when I saw King several years ago and it was really cool how he incorporated it with his stage show so look for some live videos if you can.
For this cover, I am playing my Charvel 3B from the 80's that was built in Japan and really is a great bass with such a good tone. The tuning is Drop D and I am plugged into my Neural DSP Quad Cortex running through an Ampeg SVT patch.

Clutch - (Notes From the Trial of)La Curandera Bass Cover

Track 14 of Blast Tyrant by Clutch is (Notes From the Trial of)La Curandera which marks this journey of covering the Bass lines form the album complete. I didn't do "Weathermaker" or "WYSIWIG" since they are basically jam tracks but I might do them at some point since this really was a fun project and I see Clutch is now playing this full album at their recent shows which is really cool. For th...

I just received this Sire Z7 today and have to say I am very impressed with how it sounds and how many different tones you can get from this bass. It came set up perfectly which is really that extra touch that Sire offers so do not hesitate to get one if you are ever thinking about it since they are great instruments. I am not a professional review or tester but I wanted to upload this quick no...

Track 13 from Blast Tyrant by Clutch which is the song Ghost. The bass starts at around 00:47 and is another great song that is so much fun to play. Going through all of these songs has really been a huge amount of fun and it is also great to hear what these different basses sound like in the mix. For this one, I am using my G&L Custom Shop Matador that really is a killer bass. These MFD pickup...

Here is track 12 from Blast Tyrant by Clutch called Subtle Hustle. I skipped track 11 called Weather Maker since it's only 48 seconds long and is kind of a jam track but I might go back and do it later along with WYSIWYG. Clutch seem to play this song live a good amount and it is always a fun one to hear. For this cover, I am using my Rickenbacker 4003AC which is the Al Cisneros model that real...

Here is track 10 from the Blast Tyrant album by Clutch. The song is called (In the Wake of) The Swollen Goat and is a killer track but man it is tricky in some parts. I had a tough time getting the riff clean at the 01:59 mark that I still feel could use a bit of work but this one works so I kept it even though it's not perfect but I like to keep it real. For this cover, I am using my brand new...

Track 9 of Blast Tyrant by Clutch, here is Spleen Merchant. It's a shorter song but it moves pretty quickly so you need to keep your dexterity up but another great one to play as always. For this one, I used my Guild Pilot bass from the 90's which is also tuned in Drop D. Since this one is tuned in Drop D, there are some strange hand positions you have to get down so this one wasn't as easy as ...

Track 8 from the Blast Tyrant album by Clutch, here is Army of Bono. This one was a bit tricky but was another great one since there is so much going on and I feel my USA MusicMan Sterling sounded great for this track. I added a little extra dirt for the tone on this and like the results after listening back to it so I think I will do that with the clips going forward.

Moving along to track 7 from Blast Tyrant, here is Worm Drink by Clutch. Just another fantastic song that is so much fun to play and for this one, I used my MusicMan Retro76 Stingray which really is a great bass. These basses were very limited so I missed out on getting one when they were released but luckily found one second hand for a decent price since I see them selling now for a lot more. ...

Bass Starts at 01:47 if you want to skip ahead Track 6 from Blast Tyrant by Clutch but another fantastic song with some interesting playing going on in it. I changed a few of his fills just to mix it up but I thought this Caparison Dellinger bass sounded great with...

For this cover I am using my Octave Wal MK2 tribute that is a fantastic recreation of a Wal bass in both look and sound. Keeping the momentum going with the Blast Tyrant album from Clutch, here is track four called Cypress Grove. I am going to try and cover the whole album but I promise I will also do songs by other bands :-). Keeping the Clutch songs going from the Blast Tyrant album, here is track 3 called The Mob Goes Wild. For this one, I am using my Mike Lull JT4 which is an amazing bass that has a jazz bass body with 2 Mike Lull Thunderbird pickups that give it such a great tone. I already have the next two songs figured out so I will get to recording them as quickly as I can since I am having a lot of fun doin...

    Good sound check. It was difficult to discern a lot of difference on my end over the tiny laptop speakers, but the mids and bass knob definitely fattened it up. Very good looking bass.

    • @delucajohn2000
      @delucajohn2000 10 днів тому

      @@austinburns4213 I was really surprised how much control over the tone the mid knob has. I was really able to get some great tones just by boosting or cutting and then adjusting the frequency knob which was very nice. The bass knob is very sensitive so I only boosted it a slight bit or I would have had to lower the input gain on my sound interface but adjusting lower mids really helped to tame a lot of that.

    The headstock not matching the fingerboard would drive me nuts. I mean, it's not even in the same ballpark. Looks like mahogany instead of roasted maple. I'm pretty sure Sire is staining their roasted maple necks to make them darker, which is unappealing to me.

      @delucajohn2000 18 днів тому

      Sadly it is not the lightest bass. I just checked on my bathroom scale and it is a little over 10 pounds which looks to convert to 4.6 kilos. Since this one is ash, that might make it heavier so the alder ones could possibly be lighter.

      I was very surprised the natural finish was more but it does have an ash body where the colored ones seem to be alder which I guess is why they could be charging more.
