Переглядів 130 тис.8 років тому
A Tye Dye Movie By Brain O'Donnell Starring Actual "Deadheads" "Not The Way The Press Portrays Us" Covering 10 years, this 60 minute art documentary takes an inside look at the artisans, magicians, musicians, and lunatics that make up this cult of devotees, deadicated to a band that originated in 1965. Why these fans leave their schools, families and jobs to be part of these ritualistic tribal ...
"I need a miracle - in other words a free ticket for the show man. I'll be your best friend man....and after the show I'll also need a ride back to my tent with my old lady and the rest of my best friends too man, yeah and you got any spare change?"
Thank you Brian for even back then seeing the vision to capture this culture and the band that fueled the fire! Forever grateful for this film, a real masterpeace ✌
Wow crazy funny how the dude takes off when you mention police... Damn I feel it tho I've had to deal with some neighbors like this for a few parties they didn't like. Oh well no one was hurt and most of us were better people after the shin dig so...!! Loved your documentary brother keep being awesome!!
@38:17, good dyes
The guy talking at the very beginning at 1:00 is my pal Mikey Law. A great brother who sadly passed just last year with his wife Vicky.
33:17 this guitar dude still rules. sounds like Royal Trux for reals. top shelf rock music.
This is the best Grateful Head documentary yet! Master editing. It takes us from the street, with a gatekeeper of wisdom, to the Dead Lot, to the show. It's just like being there again. Walking through the perimeter of guitarists and vendors, to then enter the drum circle. Which then leads past more vendors and, finally, to the band itself. Recognizing people from the '89 tour is a heartfelt bonus. Especially the piano player, Johnny, at ~54:00. I would listen to and watch him play hundreds of times at the Pike Street Market, where I was vending apples and almonds for a few years.
Nothing like this will ever be replicated. That certain generation got to reel in all the good years, and we’re left with all the footage. Only thing us young folk have over these original deadheads is time.
Didn't Paul McCartney produce this?
WOW,,,,,kids actually playing real music!!!!!!!
The last scene 😢😢 miss you jerry
No, there were a lot of tattoos they just wasn't sleeves
Everyone is so free and happy lovely to see 😊
0:58 That's "Diamond" Dave Whitaker. Knew him in San Fran, he'd introduce my band (Bomb) and many bands, with a poem and quick praise for the band. He turned Bob Dylan on to pot. Dylan turned the Beatles on to pot. He'd be 85 now in 2024 and still around I think. I know he was alive 2 years ago.
so nice to see ...no cell phones !!!
❤🧡💛 💚💙💜 🤎🖤🤍
I just started going back in time and trying to remember what true freedom was like before life got hectic w wife, kids, business, etc. (Love my wife and kids)I only got to see em around a dozen times. All I can say is how thankful I am to witness that circus.watching the energy flow out of everyone at rfk 93 and called althea down on the field with a dude and his girlfriend from Maryland that smoked me out w some strait out sk1. Hopefully them Maryland folks remember that too. Thanks boys for the one and only experiences that the luckiest humans on earth got to witness. Still a hippie Gipsy at heart. Forever stamped
Sick. That’s me trying to sing Bertha at 5 and 6 minutes. God I miss that head of hair! Summer or fall 89?
I was a bit young so I didn’t get on the bus until 92 but wow what a ride. I know people say I didn’t get to see the Dead in their prime and I agree but the 26 times I saw them which 20 or those were in 95 but they all meant the world to me and Dayz Between is as good of a song that Hunter and Garcia wrote in my opinion. I love all their music. Blessed to have seen what I saw.
First dude... Nicky b Wilde in the purple tam... Neil Bergman Keith in the white shirt playing flute Another Keith playing electric guitar Alvin's "steal your face" bus Bob with the patches on the short school bus and his wolf dog karma Panda...cosmic Charlie
Captured the poetic rough magic of the Dead scene, thanks for posting, Freaks Unite

Barely made it 10 minutes in. There seems to be quite a few of these documentaries on deadheads. Most of them just seem to focus on stereotypes, and only filming the lowest hanging fruit. Deadheads are so much more than just the parking lot scene...
Lowest hanging fruit….. really. Says a lot about what kind of Dead Head you are.
I was 15 in 95. These 90s hippies were a strange breed. They all wreaked of patchouli.
Lets build a time machine to get backwards to the 88deadtour
Hi buddy
Remarkable how how there are virtually no tattoos, on guys and especially the women, and absolutely ZERO cell phones. What a time to be alive!
There a tattoo 2 mins into the video bruh
@@TheRealDoodzno face tattoos though
Tye dye Juggalos 😂
Posers
What happened to the Mah hurrashi people?
The most often asked and self serving question at rainbow gatherings and dead shows, is this your first show. People would ask just so they could say how many they have been to in order to flaunt some sort of social status and show how dedicated they are.
I dont like to talk ill of people who are dead and sorry to his friends but Fast Eddie and the Wrecking crew were really tiresome to deal with. Im sure hes in this somewhere, he ALWAYS popped up. I even saw him on comedy central one time, no shit.
All I can say is, if ya never got on the bus I hate it for you. Really do. I’m an Old Man now but it’s like they say “Guess you had to be there” And the ones of you that WERE You KNOW what I’m talking about!!!! LMAO It’s all good Ha! Y’all stay safe 68 year old Deadhead and yeah, I was there ☠️❤️☠️
It was one for all and all for one, just think if "societies" were like that, doesn't matter, you'll fight the "good fight" anyway, because that's who you are.✌️❤️😎
thats me with the tye dye and hat on
🥰 nothing like a dead show
@ 3:27 cb radio ? satellite phone?
Not a fucking cell phone in sight
The piano at the end sure did sound like a Slave to the Traffic Light solo!
I'm 57, I was there from the early 80s on, super crazy , very intense stuff
I was blessed to have gone to over 200 shows before Jerry went home with Jesus. Love is real and not fade away!
OMG! Indra on his flute at 9:09!
Man the good old days ! I wish things were still like this. Dead and Co last summer tour this next yr 2023😢. NFA 💃🏽🥀⚡️⚡️💫
The guy with the ponytail from Florida lmao
I don't remember so many people playing guitars back then...lol
Does anyone know the name of the guy or the name of the song at minuet 14. what a fantastic song and singer?
thank you Brian. This is so wonderful. not many cameras around 85`-89 I remember in the parking lot at Buffalo ` 87 or `88 someone pulled out a camera and people freaked out. putting their hands in front of their faces - yelling `dont do that man...` some of them probably needed anonymity. there always rumors going around the feds were undercover as deadheads taking pictures. could be true who knows. could you imagine now hahah. so glad there were people like you.
Some of this was filmed in Philly in September 1988 I was at the September shows for that weekend and we camped in JFK Park across the street. This is great that I get to see it again.
I love watching and listening to people play music. Even if the guitar is out of tune, or they aren't great, it's still nice to see. Most of these musicians are playing from the heart and it shows.
