So picture this: you're painting and you have a nice solid colour down. Then you make a mistake on that colour. You go to correct it but after it dries, the paint dries looking strange (mostly when thinned a lot). Sort of like a lighter, more matt tone of itself. You can see exactly where your attempt to correct was and it looks wrong. Is this what you'd also call "frosting"?
Yes this could also be frosting due to seeing the matting agent from too much thinning. Could also be that you are applying a lighter tone without realizing though
@kimeramodels Nope 100% same paint/tone. The matting thing lines up as well, so I'm thinking it's frosting. Thx for the response!
Is there a place to order the Kinera Velvet Inks set or is it not available yet?
Not available yet, we released them in a KS campaign last May and we are going to ship those in January. After that we will do a full release later after finishing all the shipping. Presumably we will start selling them in September on our website
Heavy bodies are great, especially for skin as you say. I use them mixed in with Kimera but also add a touch of AK ultra matte varnish to the mix to tame the glossiness. You get the best of both worlds that way. For a general medium, I really love using Vallejo glaze medium. It's not too satin, but still allows for wet blending.
Yeeeeees!!! Super good! Thank you very much for educating and showing insight into your painting and practice. The lesson about mediums is “un-buyable”. Thank you very much again for this awesome Christmas gift! Kudos and keep it up! Your quality and enthusiasm is fantastic!🙇🏽♂️🙏🏼✨❤️
Happy holidays and thank you so much 😊
Dovresti farne uno in lingua italiana, almeno non perdiamo tempo.
Che significa non perdiamo tempo?! Se faccio un video in italiano lo guardano 4 persone in tutto 😅
Thank you for the video, i didn't know i could use the satin medium or the matte varnish in that way. Have you thought about linking old/ other videos in the video when you talk about them? There's an option to do so. That ak teal colour you're using at 7:35, is that gen3? I've been looking for that colour
Yes it’s gen3. I ordered it through their website actually. As for linking I put it in the description anyway, I’ll look for the option to linking it on screen but the other times I tried it didn’t work well for some reason.
Bel video Riccardo, molto interessante , grazie per aver condiviso..❤
Ah ma siete italiani! Idoli!
Eh sì, grazie ☺️
when u mix ultra matt varnish into the paint that makes the paint layer more durable, right? would u still varnish after that to protect the paintjob?
I never varnish. If you varnish you lose all the differences in glossiness of the different materials you paint. This is for collector level pieces, if you paint for gaming it’s very different and most of this video is useless for that. In the case of gaming you would want to varnish, probably satin or matte first and then a second layer of satin.
@@kimeramodels i always varnish at the end, but i varnish by hand and every piece different depenting on the material its supposed to be, i thought i could skip this step :D
If you want to do that, it could work yes. Takes a bit of time. Also varnish tend to yellow over time, be mindful of that
17:32 I have the Golden flow improver and am curious how it compares to your favorite you showed here. Have you ever tried it?
No I didn’t try it, it wasn’t available to me so I went with the w&n and loved it
@kimeramodels fair enough
They are pretty much the same except the golden is much more stronger so you need like 2-4 drops compared to Winsor newton where you need maybe 6. And also the golden is less sticky when dried, which always happens with flow improver because of the “dish soap” which always sticks kinda. Hope it helps and greetings from germany
7:17 like you suggested I use ultra matt varnish to thin glossy paints like inks for airbrush or brush glazing so I can better tell what I am doing.
I have found that you guys satin medium can be more or equally glossy than other manufacturers glossy medium. 5:42 here Kimera's satin medium looks more glossy too. Could that also because of the amount you used? Edit: you mentioned afterwards that the satin medium can be pretty strong in it's effect
Yes it depends on amount, I used more than the glossy medium. It’s easy to overload because of the thickness
0:50 mini painting specific ASMR 😊
Yeah ahahah
This is a great video. I've been hobby modeling for some time but want to get my hands on painting figures and mini's. I have some knowledge on different dilutions and their uses. But how you describe the way the paint behaves and moves on the wet palette really helps me understand better that I am getting the correct dilution for the situation. Before I was somewhat guessing.
That’s great, thank you!
Nice work 👍👍
Fantastico video come sempre volevo chiedere una cosa dove si può reperire il miglioratore di fluidità Grazie….
Amazon molto probabilmente. Grazie!
Excellent information and product 👍🏻
Amazing video! Never thought that shadows should be glossy! I wil definitely try it. The Vallejo gloss and Matt varnishes can be used to achieve this effect as well?
I always enjoy and learn from your videos…Buon Natale!
You talked about heavy body for working skintones. Is there a planned video for showing that off? I'd love to see how you might use it for some pin up style figures.
I doubt I’ll do a pin up figure soon, but a skintone using heavy body yes, most def.
A Riccardo video? It's like an early Christmas present!!
Yay, it was actually meant as a Christmas present 🎁 :)
Great work!
Monument has a glaze and wash medium too. works pretty well for this
Yeah I didn't test all of them, but you get the point i guess :)
Hi, Thanks for the video. When you explain that white can have different colors and use the majority color in the mix, can we apply this for NMM ? Thanks in advance
Can you explain your question better, I'm not sure i understood.
Contemplating this expansion set v the original set for historical ancients. These colousrs look more useful to me but the lack of black and white are an issue. I'm wondering about using my existing white, Pro Acryl and my black by Reaper , to mix w these Kimera paints. Anyone with experience and advice on this ?
You can mix just fine, no worries.
A good gold has a touch of green in it and this a good example

Amazing
This looks so cool
very useful , thanh you sir
Thanks nice videos
Truly awesome!
This series of tutorials is a such a gem, thank you so much!
Glad you like them!
The after effect is amazing!! That's such a gorgeous color.
It literally looks like Diarreha paint.
Thats why its important to trust the process. Cause the armor looked way better after.
Well, if you put it like that 😂
It makes the gold less dull
Excellent video. Thank you
Wonderful tutorial on painting a perfect female face . Thanks again Marc.
how do you create palette where paints are more fluid or watery? m using regress palette with their papers and Kimera paints are more like "heavy body" on that paper
The palette in this video if I’m not mistaken is the redgrass. Thing is I simply added some water by picking the paints with a brush from the bottle to be faster, brush that was a bit wet in the first place. It doesn’t change a thing or if anything it was worse, but I did it to be faster on video not for any painting purposes
Half expected the horse to spontaneously come alive. It's not everyday I witness a masterful craft. 10/10 I swear the horse moves its head at 7:52
Camo green, like the other olive-drab colors, is actually not a green, but a dark yellow; you can see this in a computer paint program by starting with a pure yellow and turning down the luminance; the color will turn drab and approach an olive color, from which it can be tinted to shift the color. The interior protective color "zinc chromate green" is actually a bright yellow with a slight tinge of green to which carbon black has been added to make the coating more durable; this shifts the color to a variety of green-to-olive shades depending on the amount of carbon black added by the manufacturer. It's kind of counterintuitive that you make an "OD green" color without any green in it at all, but that's how your eye works.
True yes. Black acts as a blue too, since it’s often an ivory black with a bias towards the blue.
Awesome paint jib...👏👏👏
So for shadows you use non-metallic paints? I’m new to making mini’s and I want to make sure I understand because yours looks amazing!
You might wanna watch someone you can understand when he speaks then
Yes. If you watch the full video is more clear.
@@tiescoolenseems pretty clear to me, are you sure you are not just too illiterate?
It is also the title of the short 😅
Wow. Thanks for sharing. Super insightful ❤
Very interesting video, many valuable tips - thanks a lot. The hair is full on Vince-Venturella-mode, love it <3
Don't compare Masclans to Venturella. Vince couldn't carry his jockstrap
@@LuisMoreno-sl1zt We agree to disagree. I like both, and the way the hair is done is exactly how Vinnie does it. I do not care who did it first, or who is "better" - only very narrow minded people cannot look beyond the borders of their own limited preferences. And limit theirselves and the huge amount of joy that is waiting for us in this wonderful hobby. Have a great day, friend.
MM is one of the most interesting painters today. Always evolving, always exceeding mastery. Thanks for the video, I actually just bought this model few days ago and I really wait to get on painting
Nice painting 💕💕
