Where's the toilet?

Listened to the Big Finish Mission to Magnus CD today. Absolutely brilliant. I need to get through the other Lost Sixth Doc Stories, but I've already placed this story in third place after Revelation of the Daleks and The Two Doctors, possibly better than Vengeance on Varos. Who knows?! It's a shame this season was cancelled as stories like Mission to Magnus could not have been written today. The Colin Baker years were controversial with the Eighties violence, darker stories, and did not shy away from a story where a planet of women enslave a few men and, as it turns out, have no clue about sexual relationships after the men from Salvak offer themselves as husbands. But what's more controversial though, violence and older attitudes, or the controversial Doctor Who we have today? I don't remember fans arguing then like they do now. Big Finish did a great job keeping the story of its time, and the incidental music on the CD is spot on for a season inbetween the Colin seasons that were televised. I think I would have enjoyed this season if it was televised.

It is good to see some new people having a go, and I'm more than happy to see Pete back.

Very happy to see Pete McTighe back, Chibnall/Whittaker was my favourite modern era of the show, I thought it looked fantastic and the writing felt mature and realistic. Kerblam! is a pretty entertaining episode, I'll probably rewatch it at some point before the new season. I know people on the whole didn't like Praxeus, I appreciated its ambition and sense of scale, and the way the TARDIS team all had their own tasks to complete, the stakes were clearly defined early on and I just thought it was generally a decent story. So fingers crossed his episode will be good, or I'm going to look like an idiot (some might say I already do...)

I guess there were repeats but "I started watching Doctor Who in the 1990s" made my eye twitch 😆

I enjoyed Season 1 but Season 2 is going to be LEAGUES better. My biggest issue with Season 1 was the lack of new writers, in fact the ONLY episode that had new writers was Rogue whereas the rest were mostly written by RTD and Moffat for Boom and I think that was a misstep, it really needed a variety of fresh new talent to give us fresh new stories but it just didn't have that but thankfully Season 2 is rectifying this and I am ESPECIALLY elated that Juno Dawson is writing an episode, I've wanted her to write for the main show for YEARS so I can't wait to see her episode! It's also nice to see more diversity in general, one of the best things Chibnall did was get more women and people of colour to write episodes and it's lovely to see RTD continuing this!

I cannot wait for season 2 to come.

I'll say this.If they had given Patrick Troughton one more season, which he might have lived to finish filming, then the timing would have been perfect to cast the ideal choice as the first female Doctor. Most actors agree that they would have been hard pressed to replace Patrick Troughton as the first replacement for the Doctor, especially as it was going to be played so differently. The first time you do something like this you need someone very very special to make it work. And in my opinion you couldn't get anyone more special than Miranda Richardson. I honestly believe we haven't seen her likes since.

I personally would have preferred his departure after either "Deadly Assassin" or "Talons." Mainly because the Fourth Doctor is as much Hinchcliffe and Holmes as Tom Baker.

Leaving aside the "isms" of the day, and particularly for what we too often forget was a light entertainment show, the black and white era stories were designed, blocked, shot and acted quite specifically to suit that visual medium with the camera technology of the day. It's all integral. The translation isn't necessarily a good thing and often leads to a jarring sensation. They'll do what they'll do of course and spaff modern era aesthetics and ideas onto the past stuff. I still have the originals. I'm not keen on the animations for the inevitable "Scoobydooing" effect so I'll be more interested when AI is good enough for them to correlate everything they've got and produce missing stories "in the style of". It'll probably still seem odd of course. incidentally, all but the very late Troughtons were black and white for me anyway back in the day because I first got them from the Target books... literally black and white.

Personally if the pasing works its good for ones like the games that are so long the story is over 5 hours long

Either update the entire story with colorization, new effects and unedited, like they did wonderfully with Star Trek TOS re-masters. Or don't bother and just leave it alone. It's that Simple.

I don't see why they couldn't just colorize 4 part stories and call it a day, it would basically be the same runtime, when I heard they were colorizing the Daleks for the first time I just assumed it would be the same episode but in color, I do get why they would want to cut if down but the music choices are just awful and can't wrap my head around it.

I would expect that McGann would be like Eccleston in being limited to a commitment of the one season and a regeneration at Parting of the Ways (my headcannon still tells me that Bad Wolf never truly leaves Rose) with McGann returning and delving into his war years and ebbing from the whimsical adventurer to the weathered war years in the 50th

I would actually contend that Miranda Richardson be cast as the next Doctor after Patrick Troughton, but it would be nice to see Troughton, had he somehow survived beyond 1987, return in 1993 as the alt-7th with his advanced age

If the specials were up to me, before the giggle, I would make a prologue with the master in it, either the master would be played by Sacha Dhawan or Matt Smith. It would show how he got trapped in the toy makers tooth. Kinda like night of the doctor.

The last Pertwee title sequence would have really fit for Season 12 actually.

You missed the theme "march of the cybermen" which was used in "the next doctor" and "nightmare in silver." It was a much more dramatic cyber theme.
