What is those green thing going to ?
Thanks for this! Well done!
Finally we have construction on upgrading our transportation system, now let’s get some construction on the Massey tunnel bottle neck, a 10 lane bridge would work just fine Ebby, get your head out of your ass and get moving.🤬🤬🤬
New westminister mayor and council members would not allow any larger. They are just one group of people over the last 45 years to ruin my great city of New Westminister BC Canada.
Bridgeman, definitely a calling to do that kind of work, sometimes there is no easy way, just one bolt, rod, spike or nail at a time, koodos to the men who build them!
how did the trucks get on top of the bridge lol
Any more videos coming? I know the weather hasn’t been great but would be nice to see any progress.
Good video, I wonder if the numb skulls in Victoria have thought about this for the BC archive. Probably not, to engrossed in Crusty Clarks PM dreams, silly cow!
Thanks for this.
Boss
Let's see what it looks like Tuesday October 22nd 2024.please
Since this video was taken, two more cable have been attached to this section.
The government should save the old bridge for cars and bikes only and emergency vehicles as well.
Bikes and emergency vehicles would be great. But there are costs to maintain it. It is being replaced not because it is inadequate for traffic, but because it is dangerously narrow and at the end of it's lifespan. Two bridges leading into the same area would just move the congestion from the bridge to wherever the dual-bridge traffic merges.
4 lanes in 1937 and again 4 lanes in 2024 ! Our current government has a great vision !
@@EstrefResuli I have a comparison video coming out to show the size difference.
@@ModernProjectManager It doesn't matter the size if the traffic still will flow in two lanes. With Surrey growth, traffic will be congested even worse than it's now on the old bridge.
The design specified that, unfortunately due to the connecting road network remaining as is, a larger bridge wouldn't help much with traffic congestion; so they decided to save the money. That being said, it is designed to be expanded to 6 lanes if need be in the future, by cantilevering the multi-use pathway over the side.
It's not really a provincial decision. New Westminster is responsible for vetoing the 6-lane expansion happening immediately. Surrey wanted it. Pretty sure the provincial government would be totally on board. But New Westminster didn't want it. It'll happen eventually, though, so they're just delaying the inevitable.
Thank you.
A 10 project for China.
It's amazing to see all the cities skyscrapers in the videos. Surrey, New West, Burnaby, Vancouver.
Haven't been to New West in so long. Miss that area when I was attending Douglas. Now if I'm ever there, it's when I'm passing by.
@@RUmlas and New West misses you! I’ll try to incorporate more New West flyby, like at the end of my latest video.
I actually don't know if they are keeping the old Pattullo. Are they taking it down or keeping it for commercial trucks? Edit: NM hahaha, old bridge gone once the new one is completed.
@@RUmlas stay tuned to see the demolition!
I hope they keep the arch in place as a memorial to the millions of brave people who risked their lives crossing this death trap! 😂
So happy they are upgrading a 4 lane bridge to a.... 4 lane bridge :(
@@merlyn412 I think at time 7:10 there is a short clip of a top-down view of both bridges. You can judge the size there. I’ll make more comparison videos
It's expandable to 6-lanes in the future, which Surrey wanted to do right away, but New West didn't want the additional traffic, apparently. Which is silly, because three-lanes in the eastbound direction would be better for New West traffic, since you can have McBride, Royal and Columbia's approaches all have their own lane onto the bridge, which would cut down a lot of the back-up that goes along Columbia and Royal because they're currently merging together to get onto the bridge. That alone would improve things significantly in New West, despite whatever induced demand you might get, or traffic coming from Surrey. That's really not as big a problem for New West when that traffic is mostly just passing through New West and headed in different directions once they're past the bridge (again, one onto Columbia, one onto McBride and one onto Royal). The problem is the back-up getting onto the bridge. It would be best for New West to focus on streamlining through-ways, if they want to improve traffic in the city. It'll happen eventually, so New West is just delaying the inevitable. For how long? Who knows.
what drone do you use may I ask?
@@MailMan-re3xe DJI Mini 4 Pro. Every flight is a risk. Just barely holding like a gimp, lol!

Love watching all these progress videos. Thanks for the top down shot at 7:10. I was thinking the bridge wasn’t that much wider than the current one but that view shows it’s significantly wider. Thanks for that. Would love to see more top down shots that span the whole project.
@@n8ryder you are welcome, and thank you for the feedback! I’ll do more top down passes for you!
@@ModernProjectManager awesome thanks. Especially one that shows both old and new for comparison like you did at 7:10 :-)

Hey Jack absolutely awesome work. Thanks so much. 😊😊😊😊😊
Looks like the Big Red Iron Job in the sky
And to not leave the old bridge up for non vehicle traffic
Replacing a 4 lane bridge with a 4 lane bridge. This is how intelligent our government officials are
I've been saying this since it was announced.
It can be easily expanded to a 6 lane bridge when the roads on either side are capable of handling that traffic. Much of McBride and King George blvrds will need to be widened for that to have much benefit first.
I guess the pre fab concrete road pieces fit together, covering and laying on top of steel road support. ?
@@JohnInDaHouse2015 Yes. I would assume concrete would fill the roadway, once the floor slabs are in.
@@ModernProjectManager YEAH but not filling in between super structure.? i see they have to have a barrier btween raw iron and concrete. LIKE a foundation seal plate plastic used in houses btwn foundation concrete and wood plate. !!! What is the inbetween connection is what i am interested in.
@@JohnInDaHouse2015 you are correct, I guess the shiny thing on the road in the south is a plastic barrier.

Hope that steel is not from China
@@lyndonfish6229 I have not checked yet, but like 90% of the products around me, it probably is. Contractors still say it’s cheaper.
yes all our cars and scrap steel is sent to Japan not China to make new cars.
You can blame new west for the size of the new bridge. New west is a horrendous bottle neck that refuses to adapt and change with our growing population because they have in in their heads that they are somehow an important historical landmark. Their disdain for traffic dispite having horrible transit is what brought about this decision. However, I take the pattulo sometimes in the morning. With the amount of commercial vehicles that need to take up two lanes when they cross, i would hardly call the current bridge a 4 lane bridge. Ill happily accept the upgrade if it means we wont be stuck behind a dumptruck taking booth lanes crossing at 20km/h.
That bridge is already too small.
@@flyingleaf8929 the 100 year old documentary talk about the uproar that people wanted a 6 lane bridge. Didn’t learn anything in 100 years, lol
Half the bridge lanes will be reserved for bicycles if the greens get their way
@@elypevets5633 it is quite the distance to travel, even for scooter people.
Is there going to be a sidewalk on this bridge and is it going to be on both sides not like the port Mann bridge there only one sidewalk it’s on the east side looking towards Langley
@@robertetchell7804 Yes, there will be a large side walk and bike lanes on both sides.
At least make the lanes alternating like Lion's gate in Vancouver so it will be 3 - 1 depending on traffic
@@EA_47_ That’s a good idea.
Thank you.
Two thoughts: 1 - Looks like there's an offramp that will have to wait until the old bridge is torn down? 2 - That one isolated porta-potty ... 😖
Amazes me on the different techniques on building a cable stay bridge in different countries. Excellent job
What about the old bridge?

How many cables are in each of the stays? On the PMH1 Port Mann bridge the numbers varied from 35-75 depending upon the distance from the towers, the farther the larger number of coated cables per stay. .
@@pitrow66 I think it’s 80 cable stays, from 21 to 63 degrees, but not sure.
