I'm Japanese and a Koi enthusiast. This pond is not filtered or circulated, and is constantly fed with spring water. Do you know the Nameless Pond, also known as Monet's Pond, located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan? Monet's pond is also unfiltered and has sand at the bottom. However, the groundwater comes directly from the sandy soil, and the water in the pond is very clear. It looks as if the carp are floating in the air. There are 8,000 carp swimming in the inn in this video. If you have a chance, please visit it once.
@@yamato-rq8fl Thank you for this quick response. This explains a lot. Any idea about the temperature ? I have a spring on my property but here in Belgium the water comes out at 12 degrees Celsius year round. This is too cold for the koi to grow in summer and be healthy.
@@geertmoens492 In Japan, although it varies by region, water temperatures are generally 16-18°C, with an annual temperature difference of less than 1°C. Of course, shallow water sources with a depth of just a few meters are affected by the annual temperature difference, while deep water sources over 100m have no annual difference in water temperature due to rising ground temperatures, but the temperature gradually increases. One way to raise the temperature of groundwater is to increase the distance from when water is pumped onto land until it flows into a pond. The temperature of the water will rise as it travels through long hoses or pipes on land.
