Kingsview Model Railway - My NSWGR Model Railway
Australia
Приєднався 9 вер 2021
This channel follows the progress of my NSWGR model railway. My passion for NSWGR modelling came from my lifelong interest in railways, and I hope you enjoy my videos. I model the Main South line of the NSWGR from the late 1950s -not perfectly down to the last rivet, but good enough to enjoy!
We feature NSW Steam locos, which some of are brass, over 50 years old and highly detailed. Some are fitted with DCC sound, and we use Loksound and ZIMO chips with custom sound files.
Stage 2 comprises a 130' turntable and roundhouse and a longer mainline via Bythngra. I hope you enjoy the videos along the way!
We will have reviews of new products along the way too.

Double Header School Tour in the 1960's in NSW. In the 1960s, various schools around Sydney had train clubs that used to run tours. This is a tour we have recreated in period black and white, and as kids, it's all our dads could afford for us! We used to save our pocket money to pay for film and processing. I can recall going on a few of these, and some pics at the end show my earliest shots of...

All great tips ! It's these little, helpful tips, gained thru experience, that make this hobby more enjoyable. Thank you sir !
glad you like them, the next one will be like this too!
Good tips, some locomotives have plastic wheels, and some operating wagons have special wheels made specifically for them that are plastic.
Yes, some do, but metal wheels on wagons and rolling stock are preferable.
An idea might be to get a photo from a book or some source that shows a type of train like a goods or mixed goods train or passenger type train to model that train to show the significance of what it was and the area it served. Even the railway yards to make trains could be interesting. Using the loco depot to turn engine and service before going back on another train. If you have a coal stage show how it was built or used to fuel the engines. Example of the past process of the railway industry steam and diesel.
All good ideas! Thanks!
Nice 👍
Any tip's a good tip. Thanks heaps.
No problem 👍
I use the electronic cleaner in green can from Jaycar . Spray on cotton cloth and wipe track. Great for wheels as well. I also have a can of air I picked up from Office Works.
Thanks for sharing
Love nsw steam looks very realistic
We like it! We have tried to make it as prototypical as possible!
Nicely detailed locomotive. Excellent low-speed performance! Great looking scenery, as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
I must say I do like Australian steam even though I’m Canadian you have some very unique classes of steam
Yes, we built our own, mostly from UK designs, except for our 59 class, which was Baldwin US.
Nice 👍
Autosol is good for polishing metals if anyone is worried about scratches.
Nice work 👍
thanks
Great content. Up here in QLD I have my own challenges and covered this in the first ten of my vids to date since commencing the layout some ….3-4 years ago I have not had to clean it at all even the tracks have only had one clean in the initial run as the top part nears completion and the final drilling goes into place for fiddle years the room will get one more solid clean since construction but for me it’s a biannual tickle with the brush attachment on the Hoover which of course us it’s exhaust sent some 25 m outside to ensure I’m not recycling the same dust particles. It was the plan from the get go sure I could have had a dream three level 20x10m layout in the shed or 35x20m in the attic but the cost and cleaning ensure just build a small room I can control and seal it up never looked back for me the biggest thing is forcing myself to run all locos every 12months to keep them operational hopefully when that fiddle yard is completed, and I can get a bit more of a routine on running the trains on a more bi monthly basis. It should create a bit more usage and enjoyment, and everything should be ticketee-boo. I take my hat off to those people running museum, layouts, and that where the trains just run nonstop every single day I’d love to get one of those digital odometers being pulled behind one of the locomotives on the Whyalla museum layout in SA. Stay safe see you in the next one.
Always a work in progress!
What an excellent video full of great tips and I toyally endorse everything you have said. Cheers Greg
Thanks mate!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great tips some I already use . Thanks great video
Thanks!
A good collection of tips there.. cheers from Melb.
Cheers to Melbourne!
I’ve heard bay leaves are excellent for pest control… there’s a few YT videos on formulas, and so many comments saying it works. Worth a try I suppose
Thanks!
The last "surviving" stream locomotive built in NSW, that is ... oddly 5812 the last Eveleigh built engine was also last into service rather than the last Cardiff built locomotive 5813
Luckily, I have 5812!
Are your 38 models from ARM? I purchased one still in the box and saw a review from Sam’s Trains and it was not very good unfortunately… yours look and perform amazingly
Most of my 38's are brass ones. I have 3 x ARM 38's, and they all run ok. Having said that, all needed some wheel spacing checking and adjustments. The ARM 38 class are a great value loco and, with a bit of work can be made into a fine model. Sams's review could have been more informed and showed his lack of knowledge of our market (which is not the UK) , where he is used to reviewing toys that he thinks are models. The UK market is full of toy makers and very few model makers.
The sound file on the 38's seems to be only giving one beat per wheel revolution, also the whistle file sounds very "tinny', this could be caused be 2 things, the quality of the speaker and the volume of the speaker enclosure. Kind Regards. K.B.
Yes, this one is an ESU Loksound 5 bought online and supposedly has a "genuine 38 class" file. That's fake news! I will change it sometime!
Drone like 😮
Ive only just found your chanel!😮 Some of us take a bit longer!! I would like to see how you run your trains. Do you use a timetable or some such to run? Thanks for showing us your set up.😊
I run what I like and dont try timetables. Glad you like our layout and enjoy the videos!
Excellent! A very busy yard full of wonderful machines. 👍 Happy modelling
Thanks!
😮
Enjoying all Your content; reviews of books, locos etc. specially liked your DCC knowledge sharing of the 82 class. Little more of that stuff be grate!
Glad you like them!
I genuinely love the last video you posted. The black and white 1960s double header tour. It was very well put together and didn’t feel like a forceful watch it was actully really relaxing and felt like I had taken a step back in time. But you do what you do best mate and have fun.
Thanks!
A very iteresting chat, just keep doing what you do. I have to say I have a preference for steam. Thanks Greg
Thanks, will do!
I prefer Steam locomotives. I like watching your trains run around. Please don't overlay music tracks! A history of each of your locomotives would be interesting. You could also do more reviews.
Noted! I have more planned!
Seeing the roundhouse and turntable in action would be nice
Very interesting journey, totally agree with your comments, I had a 40 year break and then found myself living in Perth WA before taking up the hobby again. All the best and keep enjoying.
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the channel!
Congratulations.... and it is great to see another Aussie model train UA-camr doing well. I can only hope to get that far with my channel.
Thank you very much! Persistence!
Congratulations guys, you deserve it
Thank you so much!
I would like to see quad 48's pulling coal or grain trains.
I don't have 4 x 48's, and it's not common on the main South!
Loved the Garratt model!
Right on!
A Black & White video is certainly different, but nevertheles still very enjoyable. Cheers Greg
It looked like your right hand on the video. I may be wrong. However I’m sure your Derm would have checked both hands. Good luck. I just had one cut off the back of my hand. 😮
Yep, been zapped!
Good stuff !!!
As always - great to see your layout again but it wasn't easy to adjust to the up & down bobbing of your camera at the 2 min mark , otherwise , good attempt at trying to do the "old fashioned" Black & White video effect that I can still recall being the "normal" way that we were in the early 70's , well done.
Loved every minute.
Thank you!
I've enjoyed watching many of videos over the last couple of year's. You have a wonderful layout. Thanks for sharing your model railway.
Thank you so much!
That brought back memories for me too, only further south in Victoria in the 60s.
glad you like it!
Hi Dallas, great videos of the review and running of the Flying Scotsman. As a side note my father drove it twice when it was in Victoria for the bicentennial. We chased and photographed that day. One to remember. On a personal note, having worked in dermatology for many years it looks like you have a squamous cell carcinoma on the back of your right hand. I hope you are having it looked at by a specialist ( Mohs surgeon) we need you guys to be around 😊 for the long term. I just ordered the Trix FS for my layout. Pity it’s not the Gresley A1 version 4472 that toured Australia. But it’s still a mighty fine model. Next, Bernhard.
Thanks, do you mean my left as I had one cut out recently!
It will be good when Auscision releases their 90 class, have both running coal trains on a layout
ill be happy for my DEB sets paid for 4 yeares ago!
I just bought the same 3813 but it says 3830 and it’s darker and on the front it has a sign that says spirit of progress
No, you bought 3830.
Ik I was just saying the model was the same as mine
You said score of 9 out 10. What was the issue for it not to score 10 out of 10?
No issue.
Great work Greg love your videos on NSW locomotives. And rolling stock.😊
Glad you like them!
A very interesting and informative video, and what a great locomotive. Cheers Greg
Good video. Hi from NZ, regards Bernie
Thanks Bernie!
Well done Mister Fix it.. Cheers Greg
Thanks, Interesting video. I have the same type of locomotive and yes it has had similar problems. The fitting of the wire on the draw bar was a big step forward but the grease looks interesting. Most of my focus for shorts has been on the front pony truck. I'll have to look at the rear brake as well. cheers Phil
What I do for the joining to the tender is extend that red wire onto the cross member of each bogie this eliminates any problems with contact with the tender to bogie joints. It also solves the problem with some tenders where the bogies can swing 180 after derailing. The other trick I use is, after joining loco and tender, put a small blob of solder on the tender pin so that the tender doesn't disconnect when you rerail the locomotive
all good suggestions!
