    Hey Mandy, there are a lot of great comments here. Definitely pay around with a budget and see what works with you. What works for others may not work for you. Change doesn’t happen immediately, so take it a day at a time. I would suggest that you pay your minimums for a month or two while you try to figure out a plan. That way you feel confident in your decision. As others said, don’t compare your journey with others. Best of luck and I’ll be following along.

    You are focusing on debt only. That is only one side of the equation. What is your total income?? What are your total expenses?? Do you have unnecessary spending that can be changed?? Can you and your husband work an extra evening a week for extra cash?? Just thoughts

    Hi Mandy! New supporter here. Looking forward to following your journey. My thoughts are: Keep your savings and pay with your income. Ask for a pay plan for the therapist. No interest accumulating and it was on them to not bill you. You got support here. Be easy on yourself. Debt happens, but we’re here to change that one bill at a time.

    Great video, thank you for sharing! From what I can see, you are doing a really good job! You should be very proud of how hard you work and how concious you are about your finances. The stress might be coming from "attachment to outcome". I don't have debt, but I've experienced this stress on a weight loss journey. I set a goal of loosing X amount by X date and the inner pressure was affecting me. Then a trainer suggested to let go of the outcome and just focus on the day to day. A certain amout of calories and a certain amount of workouts to stick to. The stress lessend when I only focused on that. And I reached my goal in a more peacful way. Maybe that will help. I don't know.

      @@mandysaves4924 I also would like to suggest more "softness". I think that will help. You are incredibly hard on yourself. Being more gentle might also lessen the stress. Imagen if a beloved friend or a sister was in that place. You would be much more loving to her than you are to yourself. Examples of softness: - Acceptance that you can't control expenses for your husband's health or your cat's health or your car's "health" - Allowing yourself not to save for/pay for absolutely everything right now. If you miss out on something - like an event, trip, purchase - than that is ok, even though other people can afford it. - Forgiveness for any past decisions you made with the information you had back then, even if you know better now. - Allowing the deadline of 2028 to possibly not be achievable and still not beating yourself up about it. Also - I've followed enough of these debt free journeys to know which one are highly likely to succeed. You are definitely one of them. Wishing you all the best! Love from Sweden

    I would make monthly payment arrangements on the therapist bill and also Care Credit of the lowest amount they would give me. Then, ild be putting all the money possible on the Balance Transfer until it is paid or a safe amount towards being paid in time.

    • @r0ute66junkie
      @r0ute66junkie 23 дні тому

      I definitely support getting on payment plans for the therapist bill and care credit. I've done this before, and it's no interest and very little hassle. As long as you can show that you can make regular payments, the medical billing people are generally happy.

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 23 дні тому

    Doing very rough numbers, assuming the due date on the balance transfer is next summer (12 months from now) then you have 12 months to pay @$5000 which (5000/12) comes out to about $416/ month for 12 months. I would put it before the car loan because when that interest hits, it will be more than the car loan's interest both in terms of dollars added to the balance owing and the interest percent going foreward.

    • @mandysaves4924
      @mandysaves4924 23 дні тому

      I should have the car and the balance transfer paid off before the interest free period is over but I will definitely prioritize the balance transfer if I had to choose!! Definitely do not want to pay any interest on that one

Every penny/cent from our wages is allocated , trying to cover everything but sometimes things come up and that’s life, give yourself a break.

    Good Morning Mandy. Your not alone, remember to take things 1 day at a time. Change your habits, you will change your life. Sometimes things happen that we cannot help. First things first, save $1000 for ER. Then start on debt but until you have that $1000 dollars pay the minimums on your debt just till then. Also, find like minded friends that can really be your support system. Don't compare yourself and your journey to others. Your and individual and unique. You got this, we are here to stand behind you.

    If you paid $8000+ and handled a costly, unplanned expense in 3 months - I expect to see some serious upcoming progress on that 0% balance transfer; assuming nothing else big comes up. If both of you, individually, don't have retirement accounts set up and begun i suggest that you begin to look into retirement savings. Look into them, learn the terms and what the different types of accounts are, and what types of institutions offer what. The most common place to start is with a ROTH IRA. Although younare hit the rope old age of 50 or older, the younger you start the better off you will be. 'Ya know that interest pain you are feeling, well with investments it works the opposite direction. I would suggest concentrating on the 0% interest and @$5k car loans while doing some retirement investment research. Then make a decision about allocating small sums into retirement versus a quicker pay off on the truck versus sinking and savings funds. If I remember correctly, Ramsey advocates 10% to 15% of income going to savings and investments when the personal debt is paid and while tackling the mortgage. Your mortgage, and hence housing costs, is so low you can probably afford to begin your retirement funding a little early; the earlier you begin, the better the long term profits.

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 Місяць тому

    You are obviously currently able to make your assorted minimum payments, even with some little bits of rounding up. At the same time you have been able to make reasonable strides on debt balance reduction and weather reasonably high unplanned expenses. From the comfort of MY arm chair, it seems wise to keep the $4k to $5k loan and car. Assuming it is not starting to rack up needed repairs, and depending upon what plus thier cost, im not convinced that you could purchase then make reliable another vehicle for $5k; certainly not in this area. Having a spare vehicle that you can start and run despite how much it smokes, bucks, or squueks to a stop is important when getting to a job is imperative.

  • @terryhenderson424
    @terryhenderson424 Місяць тому

    Yikes! @ $12000! The first task goal was to pay off the @$600 before its interest bubble. And you did that preventing you from adding even more debt. The over-riding principle is to first add no more debt. I don't know if you call the 80% of the $12000 a current bill or a carried debt. If you did put it on a card, there should be some credit score accounting for that. If you simply carried a bill owing for a kiss, you still managed to pay it off within the quarter rather than carrying a balance beyond quarter 1, 2024. Either way, you knocked this entire business out of the ball park. Super congratulations on all the vet bills including the @$600 Care Card balance.

    Even if your house were a shack, consider what $600/ month rent for 2 people would cost in your area. My recommendation would be to take a serious look at your infrastructure or the bones of your house and make honest assessments about upcoming repair or replacement needs. First the items, the number of years what you have will last, and then a ballpark of cost. Balance those items with the aesthetic remodeling.

    Do you have a gift list? Consider making a gift list by name then indented by gift giving occasion. Set a maximum dollar amount by gift in pencil. Tally or total the amount then make adjustments to the list accordingly. Dint firget stocking stuffers costs. Maybe write some gift ideas, interests, favorite colors, etc, in and about each name. It is not always true but often you can reduce gift expenditures by making things. These could be a stocking stuffer, an add-on to a purchased gift, or a whole gift its self. If you make just one stocking stuffer per stocking at $.50 to $1 each, you will stastically save $4 to $4.50 each as the average stocking stuffer is now $5/ each. Think practical and useful as often these gifts can be inexpensive compared to wow factor. Also think where used would be acceptable such as vintage and out of print books and patterns for those with a hobby, craft, or interest. We have done used desks (never more than $10) a couple of times for kids wanting a room make over then accompanied those desks with other stuff; curtains can be relatively inexpensive and make a big visual change too. We also did a used rototiller, vintage Pyrex carefully sourced, used chain saw, pieces to people's collections, etc...

    I would drive that car until it dies. When the balance tranfer debt is paid, i would make the truck your debt of emphasis. My guess is that accellerating those payments will return more actual dollsrs, short term and long term, to the budget in interest savings than paying down the car.

      @@mandysaves4924 Before even considering a 0% interest loan, I recommend dividing the total of the loan by the number of months on the loan to decide if you have a snow ball's chance of paying it off in time. There have been some people out in utube world with 30% to 39.9% debt. A balance transfer loan with say a 29,9% interest rate may still be cheaper if not fully paid off in time for these folks too.
