Two rookie ultra runners in Wisconsin - In 2024 we were training for our first 100k & 100 mile races. There's more ultra adventure planned for 2025- maybe another 100? On this channel you will see endurance sports, Midwest views, occasional vacation highlights and whatever else I happen to be pointing a camera at. Subscribe if you like variety.
John Dick Memorial 50k - 2nd year DNFs :)
It's hard not to sign up for this event with the $11.50 price tag. It's set up in a way you can go and do as many 5k out & backs as you want. A few weeks ago we thought we would do the full distance, and then on race morning we had other feelings.
I debated uploading this video because of the low light quality in the first part, and then our lack of capturing much, but here it is!

Four weeks ago I was afraid to tell anyone what I was training for. Now, four weeks into actually following a training plan I'm having so much fun with the journey. From the stair climber ejecting me to tip-toeing over icy patches on the trail, there's pure joy in this journey to Bighorn 100.

John & I were race day photographers for this event, with a side of video when we could sneak it in. The priority was taking photos, but we both juggled GoPros while out on the course too. This was Steena's first 50k in 2023, and it was so rewarding to go back to cheer for others who were enduring their first. Enjoy this little race day highlight video! We love Drifless Endurance - head over to...

Long Run Riddle at Scuppernong Trails & Bonus Running Buddies!
I often have pre workout panic when it’s something I know is hard. Work through it, get it done, and it always feels better than sitting in that panic and uncertainty. Sending strength from up north!
Thanks! I have another 3x 15minutes session this week! 😵
Keep up the consistent work. Not insane!
Thanks! It all feels insane in the most fun way! 😄
looks slippery ?!
True 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just ooofff 😂😂
it was in the kindest way though!
How exciting! It will be an epic adventure!!
I love this so much!! I can’t wait to follow along!!
AND join me for some training, right?!!
Looking forward to following your adventure and watching you kick some Big Horn ass!
Thank you!
Great seeing you on the course! Thanks for capturing the memories!
Definitely looks cold 🥶
The Hixon is a great course and well ran race for sure. Congrats on your finish!
Congratulations!!
Wow🎉
Good job 🎉
I made it in to the video
Thank you for posting this! I really enjoyed watching! Congrats!
Adorable! You are so cute. I love that you shared the agony of mile 14. 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for capturing the essence of the Hixon 25k & 50k races! It's great seeing my home trails from the point of view of someone new to Hixon.
Congrats! So proud of you... xo
Congratulations John!!!! Great video Steena!
Congratulations on finishing your first 100! Thanks for sharing the experience!!
Congratulations!!!
Sam!!!!
He basically sprinted past us in his last mile, it was crazy impressive!
MoS stands for Millions of Stairs. Good luck to John on his race!
I was one of those who thought the race took place in Spain 🤦🏽♂️. In my defense, I wasn't running ultras still!
Where is this mountain . Witch country , Is that Canada ?
Fun video, guys! I was the one in the orange shorts at the 15k race start in your video. The last two years I did the 25k and there are exponentially more rocks on that course, lol. This year I just did the 15k due to injury earlier in the year, but I was able to get 1st in my age group as well. Congrats to you both! I saw several signs at the 15k split, but that bushwhacking through the woods back to the speedway was rough… I definitely thought I was getting lost a couple of times but then I’d see a flag just in time.
several signs? nooooo, stop, no way 😆 oh gosh. I definitely need to go back again next year for proof of those signs! It was a lot of fun. Congrats on your AG place, that's a tough course to earn it on! Hope to run into you again at a future event!
@@steeena I just looked at the photo that was posted to the Ironbull Ultra Trail Facebook page and there were 2 signs on each side of the split: two on the left with arrows pointing to the left for 15k and 2 signs on the right with arrows pointing up for 25k/50k. What *wasn’t* clear (which I agree with you guys) is that there wasn’t really a pathway leading to the left, just random woods and that was definitely confusing.
😂❤ you guys were so funny 🎉
70 miles? Bravo you!🎉🎉🎉
It was so fun and then got really hard.
Congratulations on pushing thru!
Nice job! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks for watching!
This looks amazing !! Beautiful trail
It really is, join us next year!
@@steeena I’m in the Uk 🇬🇧 and enjoy hill reps on the South Downs. My small UA-cam channel try’s to get across the trail enjoyment we all thrive on
Love the shot at 3:30
Same! Still had early, low light that helped in this shot.
great video! i did the 6 hour :)
Awesome! Way to go, that ski hill was brutal for me to walk up once 🤣
This week3nd i was running an 11 mile race. i signed up last minute, and i ran past an area where i used to ride my bike all the time. And i remembered riding my bike with a buddy and seeing these people running this race (i think it was this race because there were a lot of military uniforms) and thinking "who runs 10 miles, these people are crazy" . Now 10 miles is a tuesday run.
How are people so happy 80 miles into a 100 mile race 😮 They are amazing 💪👌
Seriously! They had brutal heat conditions too. I aspire to be an incredible as them.
Astrid sighting! Those miles after bluff were so hard, the finish line felt so close and yet so far away.
❤🎉😊 way to go John
What a great idea for a race. Love that 👌
You have to go fast!!
Ha! Except for me the second is "I hope I don't break my ankle, I hope I don't break my ankle, I hope I don't break my ankle"
Not sure why it says, "this video may be inappropriate for some users," as I didn't find anything inappropriate. "Satan's butthole" was funny, but not inappropriate. 😂
@@keciapf ha! I clicked “not suitable for children” when I uploaded 🤪
I was also big bummed on the DWD cancellation. Really a wrench in Midwest States prep.
I saw someone is doing a backyard ultra at Lapham this weekend, looks kind of fun - facebook.com/share/p/v6aFrNuzApuyttiW/ - go to the discussion tab.
Funny story, last year I ran the 100k and my family and I stayed in the same AirBnB. The caterpillars were out of control on the porch. I did the 100 miler this year and had a blast. Great video!
that's awesome! Yes, the caterpillars were nuts again this year. The stairs were tough to come back to too! Congrats on the 100! i'm toying with the idea of doing it. Not sure if I'm tough enough.
On the light's discussion, that's my experience too, dark lines, just takes a while to get used to it. Great job getting back out there!
thanks! John tried a Kegala(?) light and he really liked it. I think they're pretty heavy though.
What a fun film! It was great meeting you guys Sunday morning while watching some of the 100 milers finish!
Wow! How cool that you stumbled on this video, I don’t remember bringing it up! It was great to meet you too! Hope recovery is going well!
What a day and what a recap!! You two are so impressive, inspirational, and resilient!! Way to persevere in those tough conditions!! And I think you have a crew that is definitely a keeper for all future races. 🤍
I like you guys ❤
Wow! What a well told story! I cried, laughed and cheered. So proud of you guys!!!! ❤
This is well done Steena❤ Almost makes me want to join in on the fun. Congratulations to you two you guys are such an inspiration.
