Hi, I’m Jason Gaskins, Vice President of Peachtree Planning. In my early career, I felt a strong need to do more than just hold a job-I wanted a career that served and helped others. Little did I know, my own life would soon show me just how crucial financial planning can be.
In 2003, my middle son, Jay, was diagnosed with cancer. My wife and I made the difficult decision to separate our family. She moved to Memphis with our sons for treatment at St. Jude, while I stayed home with our daughter to give her as normal a life as possible. Over those 2.5 years, we faced many financial challenges. Fortunately, my mother, who worked in banking, had always emphasized the importance of planning. Unlike many families in the cancer community, we were prepared. In our late 20s, we had a will, life insurance for everyone, six months of savings, low debt, and a plan that allowed us to weather the storm.
