Yeah, me too. I was actually running around in the tutorial just yesterday. The movement and gunplay felt just right, as did the visuals as I could actually see what was going on. And the audio, oh man! Sigh...

@LeotseilGaming I tried to play Battlefield V today. But everything justs feels completly wrong. The speed of the soldiers, to fire weapons against an enemy for felt 1 hour until he die, to get hurt and don't get your full life back after a moment, everything feels completly wrong there...

@@Robodogggg Yeah, it wasn't really for me either. I started a small Let's Play of BFV for the channel, but it only lasted 20 episodes. In the time after I uploaded the last episode I would try to get into matches "off camera" to see if maybe I would enjoy the game more if I improved my skills. But the matches would often just be me spending time running from A to B, just to get picked off by someone I didn't even notice. I did not have a good time, so I stopped playing all together. I would have to spend a significant number of hours just to get to a point where I would be good enough to enjoy the game, but I would rather spend that time trying out other games or working on various BF1943 projects (I have a couple in the works). I'm glad for people that enjoy BFV, but it wasn't for me. Visibility is one of my (several) gripes with BFV that made it not click for me. The graphics are so lush and detailed that I often struggle to see the enemies. It looks pretty, no doubt, but BFV was the game that made me realize I don't necessarily want high fidelity graphics in online shooters. I want clear visuals where I can see what is going on. The 360/PS3 era of graphics was a sweet spot for me for fidelity vs. clarity, especially the graphics in BF1943. The graphics had enough fidelity to feel immersive (especially when combined with the camera movement), while at the same time being clear enough so that I could see what was going on. If only they hadn't cancelled the PC version, we would probably be playing the game on custom servers right now. I only have gaming consoles at the moment (last time I had a PC for gaming was over two decades ago, heh), but I would buy a gaming PC just to play BF1943 if it was available on PC.

If only you could see how the series will look a few hundred episodes into the future. Let's just say that you will often see me in a tank, using the repair trick as often as I can. I can totally understand why players would object to the repair trick as it was not intended by the devs. To me, however, it just felt like a normal part of the game. A natural part of getting to really know the tricks and strategies of the game and use those to your advantage and I actually never even questioned it if I should use the trick or not. I also felt I saw the repair trick being used my a lot of players, but it could of course just be some sort of confirmation bias. While I never questioned the use of the actual repair trick itself, I did feel a bit bad for using the tank as often as I did in later episodes and I would sometimes have to force myself to not go for a tank (which I will talk about in the episodes). It will lead to some of the most intense moments in the series, though, me being in intense tank battles or having multiple opponents trying to kill me while I'm in a tank, where I quickly get out to repair for a brief moment in the middle of the fight and jump back in before the enemy can adjust their aim.

@LeotseilGaming It will be interesting to watch you transform into a tanker. Up until now, you've almost completely ignored them. :)

I've been following the Battle43 project for a while (even played a few matches last night), so it's nice to see it getting some attention. I actually watched TheCadWoman's video a few days ago and she did a great job with showcasing the game. The remake is an impressive piece of work, especially with the attention to detail in bringing to life the Wake Island map. It is still Fortnite, though, so the movement, aiming, gunplay and vehicles feels very different from BF1943 (to me at least). I think the best way to enjoy it is to not expect a true BF1943 remake, but rather a fun little game with a familiar setting. Yeah, it really sucks. Why couldn't they just leave a single server for each console up and running so that people could still play? I can't imagine the cost of having a single server for each console being very high. Edit: Or if they can't justify the cost of a single server, let the community host their own servers.

Not masses of weapons, scopes, classes, skins and lootboxes have been necessary to have so much fun in a shooter. I think we will never have again something compareable to this great game.

During the last few months before the shutdown, I recorded between 150 and 190 episodes each month to reach my goal of 1000 episodes. I played so much that I actually thought that I would get so sick and tired of the game by the time the servers shut down that I would not want to play the game ever again anyway. But after the servers shut down, what happened instead is that I would spend months just running around in the tutorial instead of playing other games, hehe. I still go into the tutorial from time to time. We will probably not see a game like this again from any of the major studios, as it's all about the unlocks, customization and that sweet sweet monetization.

Every episode on this series (1000 in total) is actually already done and uploaded (I just have to set the correct date for when each episode should go live). Unfortunately, there is not a lot of scout gameplay in the series. In hindsight, I probably should have dedicated more time to other classes and play styles to get more variety into the episodes. Unfortunately, I did not.

Yeah, but my intention was more to not wanting the match to end up with the enemy team being spawn trapped in their home base. On Guadalcanal I tried to have a rule for myself to not go closer to the enemy base than the closest flag when my team had all the flags. If I was in a plane, my rule was to not shoot them inside their base in the same situations. If they were outside their base, on the other hand, then I could fire.

Haha, I didn't notice that! For the longest time I had no idea how to switch teams. I finally learned it around the middle of November 2023 after watching one of Craigy007UK's videos. So when the series reaches episodes in the 900+ range, I will finally start to switch teams in some matches. If I did switch in a match, however, it would be to try to balance out the teams.

That sound very similar to my own story. I also started out on PS3 when the game came out in 2009. Played casually for a few years, but then I had many years of not playing. Started to get back into the game in late 2022, on Xbox this time. Started small at first, but then I really started playing the game a lot in 2023 when I began making this series.

Hehe, I'm guessing you're more of a hardcore milsim kind of player. I remember I often wished I was into such games back in the day, but I later realized the more simple pick-up-and play shooters like BF1943 was more my jam, although I enjoy watching experienced players play the truly hardcore milsims. What game would you say has the most realistic version of Guadalcanal?

@LeotseilGaming You seized me right, I used to play milsims when I played MP games. That said, I'm totally fine with you preferring more casual games. My comment wasn't a jab at you as much as the BF map designers. As for your question, I don't recall ever playing a Guadalcanal else than this one (BF1942 version, because I'm old). Even back then I found the map comically small. Same for Iwo Jima. I think if they wanted to do small maps for gameplay and PC specs reasons they should've focused on SECTORS of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima (like other shooters do, like Red Orchestra and Rising Storm), instead of minimizing the whole island into a comically small version of the real one.

No worries. Personally, I didn't mind that the maps didn't look anything like their real locations as they were really fun to play on. However, I can see why that would by annoying for players that want shooters to be as authentic as possible (such as a hardcore milsim player, heh). The sectors idea is really interesting and it would have been fun to see how that would have worked in a more simple game like BF1943. Sucks that they cancelled the PC port back in the day. Not only would we have been able to still play this game (EA shut down the servers last year), but modding devs could have experimented with such ideas. You could, for instance, have one map just centered around Battle of Alligator Creek on Guadalcanal. They probably would have needed to take some liberties with the locations for the sake of gameplay and balance, but it would have been very interesting to see if they could have found a good balance between locations looking more like their real versions while at the same time being balanced and suitable for the simpler pick-up-and-play nature of BF1943.

@@LeotseilGaming Now that I think of it, Rising Storm did in fact have a Guadalcanal map. It was centered around the defenses in front of Henderson field. The whole map was nothing more than the defenses around to the airfield. As Japan, you must clear these US defenses and the very last objective of the map gets Japan to just arrive at the start of the airfield. The rest of the island is blocked by impassable jungle. It just came back to me. It's a pretty decent Guadalcanal map (IMO as a realism enjoyer). But yeah I agree with you to an extent, that games should probably be fun before being realistic. If you like the map because it's fun, I guess that's all that's needed. It's just I discovered there can be both realism AND fun, and this was always what I was looking for when I found that out with Red Orchestra, which was THE game that made me a milsim enthusiast. I still enjoyed your video for nostalgia purposes. I remember playing this map on BF1942 and thinking to myself that it was so strange the US and Japan would fight for such a small island. I only understood later lol.

I can see why a lot of players have this as their favourite Battlefield game.

Thanks, I'll be on the lookout for that map. I thought Monte Grappa was pretty fun, although it was difficult. Technically, this was actually not my very first match of Operations, but it was the first I recorded. I played one full match a week or two (or three?) before this match, also on Monte Grappa and also as the attacker, where my team did a lot better (I can't say the same for my own performance, though, heh). I used to have an early version of the intro script where I explained this, but I removed it to save time. However, I could as well have played the map for the first time in this match, because I found myself on many new places that I never saw on my previous time on the map. I also think I dipped into a few minutes of Operations on another map, if I remember correctly, although I don't remember which one it was.

Yeah, tons of maps are very difficult as attackers, especially since waves are shared. So for this operation, you’ll only have 3 total waves to go through 2 maps. Some maps are way harder than others for attackers OR defenders and it’s definitely worth playing more to see what you enjoy :)

I'm not good in any game-mode, heh. Not because of the game mode itself, though, but rather because I can't aim for the life of me. It is so strange to me, because I didn't have a problem with aiming in BF1943.

Nice, I'll check out your videos. I've actually been thinking of getting into PC gaming. BF1943 must have had some very specific sensitivity curve that just clicked with me, because outside of BF1943 I can't aim for the life of me with a controller. Now, I don't know if I would do better on PC with keyboard and mouse, but it would have been fun to try out.

Yeah, it was my favourite as well. All maps were fun, and while I would argue that perhaps Guadalcanal was the "best" map in terms of getting consistently good gameplay, there was just something special about Wake Island. When the conditions were right, Wake Island was peak BF1943.

I must admit that some of those kills were pretty luck dependent.

@@LeotseilGaming Oh sweet! This game was awesome in its prime. One of the few games I actually got really good at. Tried to play it again towards the end of its life and got trashed.

@@Harrison.DuRant This game was truly awesome. I played it first at launch on PS3 and played casually for a few years. Then I had several years of not playing until I got back into the game in December 2022, on Xbox this time. I played the game like crazy in 2023 right up until the shutdown. I think I wasn't too shabby at the game by the end, although I still felt I had a lot to learn and improve. The current episode is from June 2023, though, so I will get better than what is shown in the current episodes as I still had a few months left to improve my skills in the game. I actually feel the same way about this being the only game I could get reasonably good at. I've played a couple of other shooters after the servers shut down, mainly BFV and BF1, and I was surprised of how little of my skills from BF1943 translated to these other games. I can't aim for the life of me, and I constantly get my ass kicked. I'm glad you got to play the BF1943 again before the shutdown, even though you didn't feel the matches went all that well.

Not crazy at all as it was my first online experience with Battlefield as well! It might have been the first game I played online period. While I did have BF1942 and BF2 back in the day, I only played them offline against bots.

I know there is an effort to bring it back via 360 emulator on PC, but I don't know how far they have come and if it is even possible. Another big question is even if they manage to get it working, will they be able to make the barriers to entry low enough to get players back? If one, for instance, need to have a 360 with BF1943 installed, and you need to jailbrake your 360 to legally get the game files off your console (as opposed to having the game files available for download online, which will I imagine would get pretty quickly shut down by EA), the barriers to entry will be pretty high. Time will tell if they can pull it off.
